If you want a pile of mediocre food, this is the place for you. The lunch is OK and you will not leave hungry. They are a long time Tulsa business that might have served«good» food decades ago, but it is just a lot of okay food now. The place is very worn and I think they have a drive thru. I really wanted to love it since they are a long time Tulsa business and they hire guys to stand on the street corner with signs. I read a review that said they make burgers, I might have to try that, I want to love them for something. I forgot they have breakfast, another chance! :)

This was by far the worst dinning experience I’ve had here in Tulsa. I NEVER do this but I actually had to call the waitress to the table to inform her I could not eat the food for the following reasons… The chicken fried steak was store bought and had a terrible taste. Or maybe it was the gross, again not homemade, gravy. I asked for my eggs with cheese and hash-browns scattered well. No, none of that was ever gonna happen apparently. Get this the egg sandwich, egg and bread. When we confronted our waitress and the manager they couldn’t have cared less. Ugh still haven’t found my «diamond in the rough» breakfast spot in Tulsa. :(

Chicken Fried Steak. It is what it is, delicious. The sides, rolls and sheet cake. YUMMY. It’s not the best but it sticks to your ribs like it’s supposed to.

Don’t let the dumpy looking place fool you, this place puts out some serious grub. The chicken fried steak is delicious, the gravy is wonderful, the pies are delicious. It is comfort food in the old fashioned sense. Just like the restaurants I ate at while growing up. Great service, attentive owner, pleasant cooks. We will be back.

I came here to get the Coconut Cream Pie for my father’s birthday during lunch time. The manager was hesitant on selling his only pie that day because he knew other frequent customers would want a piece. He asked if it’d be okay if he could make one and I be back in an hour aware that they close early. I told him that it wouldn’t be easy for me to get out of the office, where he then offered to make it and drop it off at my work place. We need more businesses like this in Tulsa. Aside from that, the chicken fried steak is delicious. The gravy is phenomenal. We all just had a slice of the coconut cream pie for my father’s birthday and it will be unforgettable. I will definitely be coming back.

Had lunch here. Food was greasy and not well seasoned. The chicken fried steak I had was small. Only about half the breaking was on it. Gravy was lacking flavor. And the roll was some processed crap. I excepted a lot better and doubt I return

«I’m a fan,» — apt. Good stuff. Enjoy the comfort food for a great lunch… or a breakfast that will get you through the day. All the staples are here – chicken fried(chicken and steak), meatloaf, roasted chicken, and ribs are among the daily specials. Beans, corn. mac n cheese are all up to snuff in the GOOD cafeteria iteration. Or go for breakfast, and you’re set for the day! Haven’t had a meal yet that i didn’t enjoy. I usually just go with any of the daily specials, trying whatever the mood strikes. Heard that the pies are sublime… though haven’t yet conquered that next hurdle after the full plate.

So drove all the way to this location on Unilocal and its closed, the new place is on Memorial &44th next to car dealer… Was looking forward to taking home a slice of Lemon Meringue but only on Fridays, so I took the recommendation of the waitress and had the Coconut Cream with the Meringue it was a slice of heaven… nice crust sweet meringue and the filling was so creamy. If ever back in Oklahoma I’d go eat here again.

The waitress was very friendly. Their pancakes are big, fluffy, and amazing! Their coffee was excellent as well. I got their omelet with egg, cheese, and ham. The ham was very good, but overall everything was quite greesy. The prices were awesome though! I’d come back for pancakes or to try the chicken fried steak!

When I had lunch at Nelson’s yesterday, one of the waitresses told me about their hamburgers. They aren’t on the menu, and I didn’t know they made burgers. Well they do! They grind the meat on site and cook it to order! I thought about it all day yesterday and had to go back today to have a taste. The only burger I’ve ever had in Tulsa that equals Phil’s. Not to mention the fries come with the skin! The only thing about it is it takes a while to prepare. If you don’t mind waiting 15 or 20 minutes for your order you get a meal that will make you never want to eat at a fast food joint again. This may be Tulsa’s best kept secret.

Amazing throw back to the forties, I didn’t know they still made places lie this anymore. This place is what I was hoping to find here in Tulsa… an old established family institution still run with heart and soul. They have daily specials, as well as stand bys. Evidently open for breakfast and now on Friday nights, closed Sundays(like almost everybody else in Tulsa) Evidently they were downtown way back in the 20’s and had a classic deco Nelson’s Buffeteria sign(in storage) where Elote’s restaurant is now. This place was hopping around 11:30 for lunch with the parking lot almost full and barely a place to sit down in the main dinning room, although they have a large one past the counter with live music, no less. Great vintage vibe inside and friendly folks that work there. You line up in front of the buffet counter and there is this boisterous older black man dishin’ out the goodies, along side this elderly white woman. I just love finding restaurants with black folks doing the cooking because I know it will be good and wholesome and remind me of home in Louisiana and Mississippi. Of course I had heard about the hand breaded chicken fried steak at Nelson’s and I gotta say, it is the BEST I had found by far in Tulsa. If this is the state dish, then Nelson’s know how to cook it right. Perfectly breaded, crisp on the outside, not too much breading, nice moist meaty steak inside. Not one of these soggy, greasy, mainly breading with no meat imitations or thin pre made cardboard kinda CFS. This is the REAL thing, folks. Smothered with delicious creamy gravy, accompanied with buttery smooth mashed potato and southern style cooked to death string beans. I ordered the corn bread which was a bit dry so next time I’ll be sure to get the big olé fluffy rolls I saw on other people’s plates. Topped off this excellent lunch with a piece of their coconut cream pie… OMG! this sent me to heaven and back! Sweet coconut flakes in a yellow cream fillin’ with the BEST pie crust I have had in a pie in long long time. Authentic home made pie, not the mass produced tasteless ones you find so often these days. No sweet tea, which was surprising. This lunch cost me about $ 12 bucks for one of the finest meals I have found in Tulsa. Unilocaler’s…get yourself to Nelson’s now and pray they survive the bland, banal onslaught of chain restaurants sweeping this great land of ours. A true culinary delight! BREAKFAST: Went there for breakfast and although it was good, there was nothing exceptional about the eggs, hash browns and sausage. I saw the neighbor table with their CFS and eggs… looked much better. NOTE: they have moved and I can not vouch for the quality of the food at their new location.

Looking for some of the best, if not THE best chicken fried steak and chicken in the world? Stop, right now, and pull into Nelson’s Ranch House, the reincarnation of the old Nelson family Nelson’s Buffeteria downtown. Downtown, Nelson’s reigned supreme for Tulsa’s breakfast and, to a greater extent, lunch scene. Walk through the line too slowly, and, well, you might get gravy splattered on you for moving too slow. Not at this stop, though, which is more diner than buffeteria, although the luncheon line still remains. However, that doesn’t prevent them from fixing you up or serving you up a freshly made chicken fry, complete with cream gravy, and all the darn sides and fixins a true chicken fried lover has come to expect, whether it be okra, green beans or baked beans. Ohhh, don’t forget them mashed taters, and, well, in Oklahoma, the most important VEGEtable of all: Macaronia and cheese. Get there early… they run out of mac and cheese sometimes. And don’t feel guilty: In Oklahoma, Mac and Cheese really is a vegetable. The chicken fry, well, it can’t be beat. Can’t…I’m telling you. I come all the way from Dallas to Tulsa to get this grub. You have to check it out before it gets discovered by Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and gets so crowded it will become an effort. Great spot. You have to stop. This family will take very special care of your chicken fried needs…

A tasty greasy spoon with good coffee. Had breakfast there just recently and was pleasantly surprised. I had hashbrowns which were browned nicely, I asked for my bacon crisp and it was, and the sausage patties had a nice spiciness to them(I like sides!). My friends cleaned their plates, too. They had a variety of eggs and pancakes and the like. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The coffee was so good I took a refill to go. Definitely going back.

The actual name(for now…) is Nelson’s Ranch House, though I imagine if the can find a way to get the legendary original sign up, it return to the Nelson’s Buffeteria name. It’s located on 3rd St. just west of Utica. Serving breakfast and lunch Monday thur Sat. and open for dinner and late on Fridays starting at 6pm til ? I’ve dined their twice since the opening a couple of weeks ago and I agree… Same classic taste, and same classic feel.
