I was not impressed. The waitress was very rude(I did get her name off the receipts because she never told us what it was). She didn’t greet us at all poured water walked away later and said do you know what you want. Never smiled. A young man came around and filled our drinks he was much more pleasant. I had the green fried tomatoes, they were not worth $ 8. I took 1 bite and left the rest. Husband had catfish it was muddy tasting. Others in the party had shrimp and chicken. Left ½ the plate of food. Pricey as well.

I ate here last night The menu is small, but the fried green tomato appetizers are my fav! They had a fried egg with bacon on them! YUM!

I would give them no stars if I could. Sat there for fourty five minutes waiting for dinner only to be told the chef dropped our food. Bad lie. Was not offered a meal but was told I could wait longer. No idea how much longer. Worst meal I never had.

Went here last week for brunch with a friend. Great atmosphere and service! The crawfish nachos & fried chicken were delicious. Definitely looking forward to coming back :)

Great food, great drinks, great people. I highly recommend this locally owned, charming, and comfortable restaurant. I felt extremely welcomed by the staff and never felt out of place like at some chains.

This is now open at 10:30 for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Yum! I like the salmon bagel board.

This is one of the best places I’ve ever eaten. It runs circles around Datz in Tampa. I can’t believe how good this southern food is.

Never. EVER. EVER. Go here. Really over priced version of KFC. It’s disgusting. As I mentioned before the food is overtly overpriced. Please god. Why would anyone pay this much money for such shitty food. 1 star is not low enough.

I was a bit reluctant to come here, but my colleague said to give it a chance. They were a bit busy on a Wednesday night, but I guess they had a band playing in the dining room, so we were seated in the bar… no big deal. I think our waiter was Justin?, a really hospitable server, wanted to know where we were from and very accommodating. I luv southern greens and grits, so I got the grilled chicken with those sides… well the sides were MUCH better than the main course chciken, savory tender greens, yummy. Cheesy, creamy grits yummy… chicken, blah, over cooked chicken tenders? I think was the parts, but no flavor chewy, not even grilled… good thing the sides were so tasty! Colleague got the shrimp and grits, loved his dish. He also got the fried okra which he said was good. Service was excellent, our sailer was attentive, got us bread and biscuits as we waited for our meals… oh, the biscuits were awesome, light fluffy and hot, and probably 1000 calories per biscuit. No room for dessert, but they looked good, great ambience and a live band, if you like the funky blue grass stuff. Reasonable prices and daily chef specials too!

What a great place to eat. Living on the Gulf Coast I’ve had my share of shrimp dishes. The Shrimp and Grits are the best I’ve ever had. My wife’s chicken and waffles was also wonderful and Amber Rea, our server was great. South Restaurant is a must if you are in the Tupelo area.

Very good place. Specializing in southern comfort food. I had the shrimp and grits which were delicious but a bit heavy. Fried green tomatoes have a fried egg on top. Yum! Waiter was nice but did not know if they had certain things like specials.

Not good. Food is bland and not what you would expect from the menu. Sides are small. I left hungry. Basically a bread po-boy.

Had a late date night dinner. Jay was our server. And I must say he was wonderful! Food was delicious and Jay’s service and suggestions were on point. Had the fried chicken and fresh peach cobbler, both delicious and both suggestions from Jay. I can’t say enough about this young man. If you go to South ask for him. You won’t be disappointed.

Atmosphere is very high class and swanky. My wife and I chose the fritters as an appetizer, they were great. We both love shrimp and grits so we had to try it out and it didn’t disappoint. The only downfall of our meal was the dessert. We got the big boy hot fudge cake and there was nothing big boy about it. The cake was extremely dry and it wasn’t very big at all.

I have eaten at South several times and the food is always quite good. The catfish, roasted chicken, and fried chicken are all delicious. I enjoy the French fries and the skillet corn as well. The meatloaf I had today was flavorful, but the ketchup should come on the side instead of on top of it. It took away from some of the flavor, and some people may not like ketchup. It’s a bit of a toss-up whether or not you get cornbread even though it comes with most meals. Presentation is pretty good. The service is a bit slow. We were there for over 30 minutes before our food arrived, which is not good for a 1 hour work lunch. I have had good servers there before, but it is a bit inconsistent. The manager or owner usually stops by to check on everything, which is a nice touch. Everyone there is very friendly.

Second time to visit and still not impressed. Slow service but nice staff. The sausage and cheese appetizer was good but all of the other food was bland. Chicken not seasoned before it was breaded and cooked and the 5 cheese Mac and cheese was a good texture but very bland for having all those cheeses. Not impressed.

I stopped in here for a weekday lunch with a friend who is a local when I was driving through Tupelo. Food itself was fine, and would probably get 3 – 4 stars. The service is the reason for the downgrade. SETTING: Fairly modern and classy interior(someone spent a lot of money on the upholstery here). Lots of fabrics makes the restaurant a little on the quiet side, which is nice. FOOD: I ordered the BBQ Shrimp Po Boy with Mac n Cheese. The Po Boy, was pretty good but nothing special. I found the BBQ sauce a little overpowering and was too watery for my tastes. Mac n Cheese(actually it was penne, but who’s actually keeping score?) very cheesy and creamy, but delicious. Cornbread was good too. SERVICE: This is what turned an overall 3 star experience to a 2 star one. When we walked in there was no hostess at the front, and there was already a woman standing there waiting to be greeted. There were a few other parties in the restaurant, but they were by no means busy. We eventually were seated, and the waitress seemed to take forever to come take our order. I asked for cornbread for my side, but she told me that my dish already came with cornbread. However, when my meal came… no cornbread. Before I could say anything to her, she disappeared. When the manager(owner?) stopped by a little while later, I mentioned the cornbread issue to him, and they gladly brought it out. All of these seem like minor issues with the service, but when you add it all up, it makes for memorably poor service.

The food itself CAN be very good. If you’re in there at a slow point and order by yourself so that your food is cooked and delivered, it’s very decent. But they always seem to have service issues and I’ve never eaten in a group without someone getting cold food. We had a pre-scheduled Christmas party outside of restaurant hours and almost everyone had an issue somewhere. I like the risotto and the shrimp and grits, but neither is what I’d consider outstanding.
