Unfortunately… My review is not so happy. The«fresh burger» had pieces of hard, unidentifiable meat. It was not cooked very well, and the cheese & onion fries had spray can cheese and uncooked onions… Very disappointed. Also only one dude cooking… Will not be back. Wish we could get our money back, was not worth the 30 dollars.

Decided to try this place today, after reading a few positive reviews. I had the Philly Cheese steak, and it was messy as any good Philly should be. It smelled great as they were preparing it, and tasted great when it was brought to the table. They have a list of specialty burgers/sandwiches in the Alcatraz theme«AL Capone burger», «Bird Man» Chicken Sandwich, etc. I will be back, I would like to try one of the burgers next time.

My Mom brought food over for dinner. We live in Modesto so by the time she got to our house the bottom bun was soggy of our burger that we shared. One less star because my Mom asked them to half it for her and they told her no it would be too messy. So we had to do it ourselves. My Mom ordered the Henry Young Char Dog which is a natural beef dog, sport pepper, relish, tomato, onion, lettuce, ketchup, and mustard. My 4 year old gave it a thumbs up. My Mom also ordered the«Bird Man» which is a 6 oz. seasoned chicken breast, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, AB sauce. And also The Machine Gun Kelly which was a 8 oz. hand crafted patty, sautéed mushroom, swiss cheese, and AB sauce. The Bird Man was ok. The piece of chicken was huge, a little too much for a sandwich. The Machine Gun Kelly was hard to eat, it was messy and has some gristle that I had to spit out. I ended up not finishing the burger. The fries were good though. I probably won’t eat there again. Not impressed.

First time trying the Alcatraz Burger, and I was super delighted. I ordered the Machine Gun Kelly and the burger with the delicious sautéed mushrooms melting in Swiss cheese was unforgettable. Good portion and great value for money. Be prepared to wait… as the cooks carefully prepare your food. Be patient. It’s worth it!

Tried this place out with my boyfriend for lunch today. We had good quality burgers with a side of fries. It was a good price too. Our lunch only costed $ 20, which isn’t bad at all. They have student discounts so Stan students, bring in your warrior cards! I was surprised to see Unilocal reviews saying«too pricey.» I was happy with the price. You need to pay money for good quality food, this isn’t mcdonalds people.

Location open for about 18 months The Steak Sandwiches were very good I had Est coast style. w/Jalapenos hot and good real col menu; only one down side … when we arrived we were sat right away. But no one took our drink order we let the young lady short dark hair know we were ready. Se told us we would have to wait until the young man was done taking the order from other table. What I did not know he was also the cook two other ladies one in training the other did nothing. Finally the cook made it to our table and we placed our order over 15 mins. Food was very good but the service was more like two ** not three. did speak to the on coming manager an informed about the issues. I hope they get It fixed this could be a francize waiting to happen. I bet the person who created this marketing idea is hoping so.

TL;DR — Decent food was overshadowed by poor and slow service. Hopefully this was a once in a time experience and won’t happen again, since the food was good. I created a burger with bacon, pepper jack cheese, and condiments. My friend had the Al Capone burger. Both burgers and our side fries were delicious. Recommendation would be to have more workers during lunch hour.

Could have been way better. Friday night, two cooks and one order taker/bar tender/table wiper. Orders were going in but beer patrons were not getting served and tables were not getting wiped. Menu could be a lot more clear. It doesn’t tell you what comes with the burgers. Doesn’t tell you beer or wine selection, or drink prices. You walk up to the counter to order and have to look straight up at a widespread menu board that’s hard to read and harder to decipher. Awkward. Napkin holders were empty. Order came and looked good. 8 oz burgers. Fries were good. Burgers were bland. The one with mushrooms– bland. The one with bacon — bland. The burger buns fell apart. Messy, but not in a good and tasty way. Traded empty napkin holder with another table’s holder that had some napkins in it, napkins were so small cheap and thin that you literally needed a new napkin for each face wipe. Did this bite-wipe-new napkin routine until the napkin dispenser ran out again. Not a good beer selection or soda selection. Water choice was cheap Kirkland Costco water. Disappointed to say the least. They need Gordon Ramsey to fix it. By the way, a family came in and had to bus their own table just to get a seat. The table we sat at was about to fall apart.

Love the theme, excellent service, great craft beer… the inside of the building was a little warm for me. Outdoor seating was nice:) Great presentation of the burgers.

I was visiting my brother and had under an hour to get lunch before going to work in modesto, so we gave this place a try and hoped it’d be quick. Luckily it’s spring break, so AB had only a few tables occupied and our burgers were ready about 15 minutes after ordering. I got the birdman and my brother had machine gun kelly, and I was pleasantly surprised both orders already come with a generous amount of yummy garlic fries, making the $ 9ish/burger price pretty reasonable. The burgers were good… however nothing too memorable other than the buns falling apart near the end from being too soggy.(But at least the meat wasn’t dry!) Service was fine, portions were impressive, atmosphere pretty chill/sorta small, location is convenient for students, but best burger everrrrr? Nah.

Finding new local burger joints is an irresistible pass time of mine. I cannot resist the temptation of a delicious burger and, when told of a great place across from my son’s school, I jumped right on it. The place was nice and had basketball paying on a nice tv, but it was in SD. The walls were littered with Alcatraz memorabilia and the bar area had prohibition posters. I had the mushroom burger which was named after an inmate whom I have already forgotten. The burger was good, very greasy, and had a fresh taste about it. It was lacking lettuce, tomato, onion… etc… But I didn’t mind. The fries were fresh, hot and crispy… perfect. Honestly, I enjoyed the fries a little more than the burger… I will go again for sure and try something different… Good stuff, eh…

First impressions matter and since you often don’t know which of your customers are first time customers, you should ALWAYS make a good impression. My first impression of this place is terrible. My wife and son go in to pick up some food for our dinner and find out that this place CHARGESFORTAKEOUT! Who the hell charges for take out? It costs them money to maintain their dining area, not mine! So, my wife and son wait 1 hour for their order. There were 8 people in a dining are that can hold 40+ and they had to wait from 6:30 — 7:30pm for a Philly Cheese-steak, Burger and 1lb of fries. Once at home we get our food organized for dinner and something doesn’t seem right with the fries. Not only are they overcooked and hard, but there seemed to be less than a pound. So, we pull out the food scale and guess what? 9.7 oz! Last time I checked, a pound was still 16 oz. My son ate 3 bites of his burger before calling it quits. As for the cheese-steak… It was an oddity. The thing was so greasy that it turned it’s wrapping paper transparent and the bread was falling apart. The meat was chewy and dry! How does that work? Did the bread and wrapping paper pull all the moisture out of the meat? With food like this I’m glad the place has a gimick. Then again, maybe they’re going for realism. Items on the menu are named after infamous criminals, and the food seems to come straight from a prison kitchen. I only wish there had been another prisoner there to take my food before I disturbed my body with it.

YUM!!! Stopped by today for lunch and had one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. I ordered my own burger the way I like it(just ketchup & lettuce) fries and a soda. With a 20% tip it was around $ 13 which is more than reasonable in my book. Honestly the burger was filling enough that you could hold the fries if you wanted to save a few dollars. You can tell the meat is ground fresh and the patty was hand formed, very rare to find a burger place that does this. The bun was my favorite part, super soft and had a great touch of flavor that you don’t get from store brand buns. The theme is also super cool with photos of mobsters on the wall and there’s table and counter top seating. They have beers on tap and TVs if you want to hang out, but if you just need a quick bite to eat it’s one of the few places in the immediate area. Overall, A+ I’m looking forward to trying the hot wings and hotdog too. For the budget conscious college student, you could hold the fries and soda and eat for less than ten bucks. Honestly given its fresh meat and fresh made buns, I’d pay more. In Vegas or LA a burger like this would be $ 15-$ 20 just for the burger.
