I called Knight plumbing for a slab leak repair, as their full page ad in the phone book said they do this type of work(many plumbers don’t). The person on the phone was very nice and helpful, as was the technician we spoke to. In fact, the plumbers who came to assess the repair were also very nice. They found 2 leaks and did the repairs quickly and were professional in cleaning up afterwards. Sounds like a good resolution to a difficult problem, but there’s more to this episode. From the time the first man arrived, he pitched the ‘Royalty’ maintenance plan(You maintain your car, don’t you?). My pipes were over 20 years old.(Well so are my gas lines!) They are going to break again. Blah, blah, fear, fear. Buy now and we’ll knock 15% off your bill! (Translation; buy our plan or we’ll charge you 15% more.) This plan is just a scam to get all your future business or take a hit backing out. Then he went after the water heater, which was old, but I’m not ready to change it right this minute.(Water heaters explode, the older ones don’t have this valve, blah blah) I was willing to take this enormous risk but the guy wouldn’t let up. (Translation; we’re so greedy that a multi thousand dollar repair isn’t enough, we’re going to pressure sell you a water heater.) I smell commissions. I wasn’t buying any of this so he went to work on my spouse. With nothing to compare with, I can’t speak to what they charged, but it was a lot. Someone has to pay for the full page ad. In summary, I would go with an independent plumber.(Check Unilocal first, and make sure the reviews aren’t from friends & relatives, ie people who have only done a couple of reviews). Next time I would go grab someone from in front of home depot before I would call these guys again. Five stars for the work. Zero stars for over the top sales pitches & add ons. Average it down to 2 stars, since they’re such nice people, but so are used car salesmen.
