Palms N Paws Animal Shelter

Adopted a young female cat there 3 weeks ago. The females are kept in a common area and are not separated. After adopting one of the females, we found she had feline leukemia and had to have her put to sleep after she lived with us for 3 weeks. Feline leukemia is a communicable disease that can be spread between cats that come in contact with it. I would not recommend getting a cat from this shelter (especially from the female common area), as many of those cats are probably infected; and will result in nothing but a loss of money in veterinarian fees (she cost us $ 600 in the end)…and heartbreak.

I took my Lily to their $ 6 rabies shot today. Most of the staff were very welcoming and and friendly. However, one of the ladies doing the paperwork for proof of rabies weren’t so confiding. She gave out this negative vibe and spelled my dog breed name wrong. How can you misspell Shih-​tzu/​poodle? If you work around animals then I think you should know how to spell and have the knowledge of different breeds. She’s handling important documents so accuracy is a must. Additionally, how you interact with customers can affect the business. But overall, I do appreciate the shelter doing this for the community at a low cost price. Well done!

Animal shelter/​Animal Control operating in a small town, on a small budget with a big job! Any time you get an animal shelter near a military base, you’re already going to find over crowding due to the general «pets are disposable» attitude a lot of military couples seem to develop come time to PCS to a new duty station. Sorry to say, but yes it’s true. Maybe not as bad here, but places like Okinawa (my husbands last duty station, it was disgusting).
Then you have the average uneducated masses out here who feel the «need» to get a Pit Bull puppy for whatever reason (looks cool bro), when it gets big like all dogs do, due to total lack of training whatsoever it ends up «out of control» and finds it’s way to the shelter… I’m guessing that’s how a lot of those poor dogs end up there. But a lot of them are some sort of pit mixes. Not all. All puppies are cute, we get that, but they all grow big, and then… they aren’t as cute, especially if they aren’t house trained LOL… but no one thinks about that. Too bad.
All that said. The staff at PnP really do an amazing job. Because regardless, they go in day after day, and they deal with it. They go out and deal with it. I won’t lie they got my dog once LOL, I paid my fine (no worries guys we’re still cool) and I bring in donations as often as I can, not to mention I’ve adopted twice from them.
If it’s not perfectly clean in there, the reason may be because there is very little staff and a lot of the cleaning falls to the criminals who are doing community service in the animal shelter. Or volunteers. And well, sadly there aren’t as many volunteers in this country as there used to be, hence why we make criminals do this stuff.
Considering what little they have to work with, and what they have to deal with, this is a 10 star operation!
If you are looking for a pet, before you go buy a «purebred» consider adopting one! Trust me, I have a purebred, the only thing different between her and my mixed breed dog is a piece of paper. LOL. That’s it. The mixed breed is far smarter, and it’s not like I’d ever invest the $ 1000’s into become a responsible breeder LOL, hell no, I had them fixed! I just happen to get that dog. Go shelter go smart! Don’t need another pet? They need food and bleach down there always!

Absolutely LOVE this place! Took my 2 year old there to make a donation, and got a tour. Rick took out their resident python & ferrets for my son to pet, told us about most every dog and had a great personal relationship with each one.
Each kennel was very clean.
Definitely will continue to support them!

The most freedom I’ve ever felt at a shelter.
Most of the shelters I’ve been to are extremely strict about their animals such as your not allowed to pet/​play with any animal unless you’re 1005 serious about adopting it.
I came here looking to possibly get a new cat. The staff are ridiculously nice and helpful but also give you your space so they don’t shove you into adopting.
When I came here the had a litter of tabby kittens in one of the back rooms and I was allowed to go back there and play with them. They also give you the liberty of taking a pet, whether cat or dog, out to see how you bond with it.

Rick and Wendy and the entire staff is so great! When I lost my cat of 12 years, I wasn’t sure I was ready for another kitty. They let me visit all the cats to see if my heart was ready and when I finally decided to adopt, it took me hours to decide. They were never anything but kind.

This is our local animal shelter. They usually have tons of dogs for adopting but this past weekend must have been a busy one for the animal «euthanaziologist».
They also keep felines and other furry animals on deck with a few resident pets. a ferrett and small horned lizard thingers.
They are also animal control, handling any and all sorts of animal related emergencies like strays or orphaned (animal) babies.
if you roll up and find a large congregation of people hanging out around the holding pen or entrance dont fret, its usually just people doing their community service hours for court.
