I’ve never quite written a review where I’ve been conflicted about how I was going to rate it. I’ve never quite stayed at a place like this. We chose the hotel because we were passing through Tyler on a longer trip, and had this hotel suggested by a friend in Tyler because of the type of room we needed. We needed at least one bed separated from the others by a door, or partition. Our friend told us it was«nice», and we checked out the site, and it seemed to be okay. Even with the tripadvisor reviews, I thought… well, not perfect but maybe not totally horrible either. The hotel is set up kind of like apartments/condos in a way. You know how most hotels are all connected to one building, and in most cases you have an elevator and an inside way to get to the lobby? Not here. You walk outside to get there. And we were in a building that was not close to the lobby. I kept thinking, what do you do when it’s raining or the weather is really bad. Walk outside to the lobby to get breakfast? I’m not saying it’s bad. It’s actually an ideal set up in some ways. The downside was, we had to lug lots of luggage down walkways and up and down stairs, outside. When we first arrived, our room had an overpowering smell of bleach. Within minutes, my daughter said her throat hurt from breathing it in, so I told her to stand outside for a few minutes. The room itself was spacious. We stayed in something similar in Huntsville once. There was a room with a king bed, and a full bathroom. It had a tv, desk, nightstand, two chairs. There were doors that closed this room off from the living room area. Living room area has a tv, sleeper sofa, chair and coffee table. It also had a wood burning fireplace, but I’m not sure if it is functional. The furniture looked old and very worn. Carpet was worn. The linens given for sleeper sofa was standard — top sheet, blanket. We brought an additional blanket, and we added that. There are stairs leading to a loft where there is a full size bed, a tv and another full bathroom. There was give under the linoleum and carpet in some places. Wifi signal was pretty strong. Decent water pressure in showers. We went to the pool. There is also a tennis/basketball court right next to the pool, enclosed with a tall iron fence. There were about 8 unsupervised kids, who I later figured were part of the same family, ranging In ages from about 4 – 10. They were yelling, fighting, trying to climb the fence, shaking the fence, which was unsteady and made lots of noise when shaken. My thought was that their adults had locked them in. Some kids could reach, and others couldn’t. Eventually an adult came about, and they went into their«room». The feeling I got is that some people might be here long term. I’ve worked with people in the past who were addicts, and had no place to live(homeless), who stayed at extended stay hotels. Or several would chip in to pay for rooms. As time went on, I started to think maybe some of that was going on here. Some people seemed awful familiar and comfortable with the place, almost as of they lived here. I avoid staying in places like days inn, red roof inn, motels, etc and such for the same reasons. Anyway…the pool. It’s a nice little pool. Chairs, tables, umbrellas. And then… party time! At about 8pm or so, several large groups of people came to the pool area with packs of beer, vodka bottles and cups(despite a sign saying no glass in pool area). They all clearly knew one another. They also brought hordes of kids, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. These weren’t the same unruly kids that had been on the courts earlier. This was heaven for my kids, since they had others to play with, and they had a blast all night. The adults were friendly enough, but I can see how this could be obnoxious. Lots of drinking, smoking, loud behavior but… it WAS a Saturday night. I’ve just… this is not something that is usual for anyplace we’ve ever stayed. Except maybe a campground. Anyway, the clerk on duty did finally come out and tell the people they had to put their booze in cups, and couldn’t have bottles. The people with the vodka bottle complied. The ones with the glass beer did not. Nothing else was said. What I found further interesting was that, at 10 when the pool closed, it wasn’t the clerk that came out and told everyone, but a police officer… Things that make ya go hmmmmm… Sleep was not great. Pillows. They’re so hit and miss. Beds were comfy. Except, you know, the sleeper sofa. Pretty typical, although our last hotel provided extra thick pads for the sleeper sofa. Overall, the experience wasn’t horrible but i do have concerns about potential safety issues. I don’t think we’d stay here again if we passed through.

Hotel is pretty old and looks like old apartment complex. Staff is super nice but couldn’t get over the smell in our room. Hopefully they remodel/update soon. Pool looked decent.

This place is the pits. Old apartment building converted into«hotel». It’s like staying in your old college dorm, without the«perks» of college. Bed was uncomfortable, sofa bed had no sheets, the ac & heat thermostat had a 10 degree swing… no sleep here!
