This place is super adorable and unique for the Tyler area. The décor is antique-ish with more of a tea room look. Service is hit or miss and can be disappointing at times. There is also a store attached to the restaurant with boutique clothing and Pandora jewelry, amongst other things. The chicken almond crepes are my favorite but the salad/soup bar is good also.

Our cousin’s rehearsal dinner was hosted at the Potpourri House last night. They had at least sixty guests and the large group was accommodated easily in a separate room. Wine and beer was served quickly and efficiently by wait staff rotating throughout the room. We also received a table tent identifying which main dish we preferred to be served once dinner time came around. Smart, savvy, and quick way to ensure proper dishes get delivered to the people wanting them. I have to admit – The Poppourri House didn’t knock my socks off from the outside. It looked like a town hall style building that would serve some generic dishes. I was wrong. I said it. Dead wrong. The salad, chicken, veggies, and potatoes I was served were some of the best I’ve ever had. I know-it sounds crazy. But the chicken was cooked perfectly. The salad was fresh and the dressing was a lovely compliment. And did I mention the dessert? The cheesecake was to die for. And I say that as a true LOVER of cheesecake. It’s always my go to. And if I lived in Texas, I would be back for the cheesecake. Numerous times a week. That said, why four stars? The ambiance leaves something to be desired. There’s a chintzy gift shop in the front of the restaurant… maybe that’s a Texas thing? And the fake plants, shrubs, and lights throughout the building were cheesy. So was the mini waterfall/fountain. But, the restaurant was clean. Last but not least, in the rehearsal dinner contract must have been a requirement that we vacate the room by a certain time in order not to be charged extra. While I don’t know the details, the night came to an end very quickly and we were all practically ushered out. Not exactly the detail you want to be remembered for…

Delicious food and great service each time. I especially love the pimento cheese dip, it’s amazing. I also suggest ordering the salad bar at lunch. It’s quick and there are lots of options to choose from, including baked potatoes, soup, and fruit.

I love the food here… the cream of mushroom soup is my favorite in the world. I love the ahi salad… so perfectly tender and delicious! And for any chilly day, a mug of hot spiced tea is what I always crave. So. Good. Shopping is fun, and the prices are great. Better, often, than «big box stores» and you get something that 5,000 other people don’t also have. Unique and pretty boutique items, and great service.

The Potpourri is fantastic. You will love it. The food is great and the shopping is one of a kind. They have so many quality and unique items. If you need a gift for someone special in your life, this is the pace to find it.

Came in in July while I was in Texas visiting family from California. We came during lunch before going shopping, it is such a cute little place! We were seated immediately, and I ordered the Filet Mignon. I am VERY picky about my steaks(I am from Texas after all right!!!), I always go for medium and it was cooked perfectly. Between the filet, strawberry salad, and fantastic service I was very happy and impressed for my first time here. I plan on returning each time I come visit family in the future; next time I plan on shopping around a little bit too, we were in a little bit of a hurry that day.

This is a nostalgic place for me. Brings back good memories of my time in Tyler. I decided to have dinner here during a visit back to Tyler expecting the same type of experience. The service was absolutely dismal!!! It started with my significant other and I showing up, only to be ignored by servers who saw us but decided to walk the other way. A few minutes later, we were seated by a friendly non-server woman who walked in the store to see us waiting. Our server, however, was clearly not interested in serving us. I ordered a filet mignon and she brought back a rib eye 20 minutes later. I waited 20 minutes more for the filet only to be forced to use a butter knife. She was nowhere to be seen in order to ask for a steak knife! The strawberry salad was tasty, but the baked potato was overcooked and the filet mignon was not tasty at all. As for service, we only saw her three times during the service. Most of the time, she was at a table chatting with other fellow servers. Our water glasses were not filled and when it came to the check, she threw the change on the table, with ‘here you go’. Not sure if we would be back. So heartbreaking! It was one of our favorite restaurants in Tyler, but the service was SOOOOO bad, it was unbelievable.

We’re Dallas-ites and we love eating good, quality food. However, we are able to change expectations when we travel. Tyler is Tyler. It’s not Dallas — home to James Beard-winning chefs. You’re not going to find a restaurant to complete with Austin’s Uchi in a town that has long lines for Red Lobster on Valentine’s Day. But Tyler has some good local mom and pop restaurants. Potpourri House is one of those places. They have fancy Tyler food, friendly wait staff and a very nice salad bar. All of the creamy soups taste very similar, but they are good — and who needs to have more than one cup of soup anyway? We ate dinner there with the in-laws and various others this weekend. The Mr and I both had the salad bar for our supper, along with a cold glass of Pinot Grigio. the salad bar offered spring salad mix with several topping options, several creamy salads — including the ones that everyone loves to mock but secretly loves to eat like broccoli raisin and pimento cheese — as well as smoked salmon and baked potatoes. All in all a satisfying dinner and a far better option for a meal than Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse or Luby’s.

I’ve never eaten here but I have shopped their gift shop. I came in to buy a last minute gift for my mom and I got there right in the middle of the lunch hour. The place was PACKED, I had my two toddlers with me and all the cashiers/employees were busy. Another employee saw that I was struggling to make my way around in the crowd since I had my babies, and she not only assisted in helping me find what I needed, but she also jumped on a new register so I could check out faster. I really appreciated her help

Restaurant is over-rated, we were a bit disappointed after going to Café Bhojana Java yesterday. We had salmon and salad, and tortilla soup. Salad and salad dressing, soup, salmon all so-so. Orange«spice» tea was sweet and cloudy, seemed like tea and orange juice concentrate mix. We sent the tea back. Service and gift shop nice.

Yuck! I am not a fan of this place. I think it is very pricey for the quality of food and service you receive. I had the salad/soup and potato bar and was hungry ten minutes later. I would not recommend this place to eat.

I really liked the food. Which is weird because most of the reviews on that part of the store are negative which makes it more weird because I’m picky. I had Chef Randy’s Spaghetti and meatballs. It was really good! Also I liked the strawberry salad. Yes — the dressing was pretty much syrup but it was good. Everyone in my party also really liked their food.

We really enjoyed our lunch at Potpourri House. Party of 4 and we all had different things. Everyone was pleased, catfish was wonderful, chicken fried steak & chicken fried were excellent. Mashed potatoes were just okay and the special chicken in puff pastry was kind of soggy and not hot, so it was just okay. We would go back!

Me and my wife went there tonight. I had the stuffed jalapeño chicken. It was very dry and over cooked. Very few jalapeños in the chicken. My wife had the chicken salad sandwich. She seemed to like it ok. Strawberry salad was good as well. Wait staff we very fast and friendly. We came from out of town for the weekend and don’t think we would recommend this place.

Yikes! Not sure we should have even considered eating here, but we were convinced that it wouldn’t be bad. It started off well enough, with a friendly waitress and prompt service. However, we knew right away that the food wasn’t anything to come back for. The strawberry salad sounds like a light fruity and refreshing salad. Instead we got the equivalent of soda in salad form. Without any real strawberries to speak of, the dressing tasted extremely sweet and thick, almost syrupy in texture. Not wanting to beat anything while it’s down, I’ll comment on the fact that the Chicken Fried Chicken was not anywhere near the best. It’s sadly under-seasoned and the accompanying mashed potatoes are drenched in The name of the place is downright awful, and with the Yankee Candle-like store in front, I’m not sure this is a restaurant first and a store second. 2 stars for possibly the most confounding food possible.

This review is strictly based on my shopping experience… was here last weekend with my family and purchased an entire paper sack full of stuff for $ 13.00! The sale rack here is pretty amazing! They have really great décor pieces… I love the Tyler Candles, the silver room in the back, the kid gift section, and they had a killer sale on their Christmas merchandise. The staff was super helpful and packaged all my stuff in boxes to keep it from breaking, and even gift wrapped an item free of charge… I always stop in here when visiting in Tyler, but have yet to dine here… maybe next time… If grandma’s dine here it must be good! Haha! What’s up with people dissing on Grandma’s? All my grandma’s are hipper than I am!

The pineapple was fresh and the water with lemon was excellent. Everything else was less than mediocre. They were kind enough to comp my mother’s meal when we we’re seated and the front leg of her chair broke off and dished her onto the floor. Service was good. Management was very concerned and cordial. Just really disappointed the food wasn’t better.

Not just for old people! That’s crazy talk!(I’m 27) Love the Potpourri House! Great salad bar– especially the pimento and cheese and strawberry salad with the strawberry poppyseed dressing. Amazing! Also, all the cream-of soups are out of this world. Live music on some weekends. Great atmosphere and you can stop in and get gifts for birthdays and holidays. Try the spiced tea! :)

Okay, it’s grandma food. But it’s good grandma food. There are lots of southern ladies who lunch recipes. Pimento cheese salad and other old school southern«salads»(not remotely healthy). If you know that going in, it’s pretty good. I would have to write another review entirely for the shop. Hot mess of stuff you shouldn’t even let your granny wear and over priced gift items.
