I started going to HK Top ever since my brother discovered it as an alternative to Mayflower which is just a few meters away. No more long lines and long waits for seats. I always order the usual: chicken feet, siu mai and bean curd — and usually add chow-mein or Mongolian beef or chicken + fried rice for five people. It is way cheaper than Mayflower. Mayflower charges a dollar for each person for tea while in HK Top it is free. Compared to the prices of the usual orders I take in a Dim Sum place, theirs is really very cheap. What would cost me around $ 50 from Mayflower would only cost me around $ 35 for a party of five. The place is small, though. Only two servers are usually attending the tables. So sometimes the service can be really slow although I can say they are friendly compared to other Dim Sum places I’ve gone to.

I really enjoyed my dim sum and had no issues with that but the slow service and bug on my chopsticks was the tipping point for me. My bf loves going to this place because they serve dim sum all day and who doesn’t love dim sum? This place is your standard hole in the wall place in an ugly strip mall. It was empty when we came around 4pm which makes sense because of the odd hour we came. We ordered the standards pork shu mai, shrimp dumpling, chicken feet(not for me), shrimp and chive dumpling, and a seafood shu mai. The food took nearly half an hour to come out. While I appreciate the freshness, it was just way too long and there was nobody else in the restaurant. Nonetheless, the dim sum was solid and I was stuffed. The pork shu mai and shrimp dumpling were perfect and really nice and hot when it was served. Definitely could have passed on the seafood shu mai. It had a weird fish/ginger taste. When I went to wipe my chopsticks I found a nice little bug on my napkin that I sadly killed. I wouldn’t have known since the chopsticks were black. Also their chili sauce looked really questionable… I’ll come back if I’m in desperate need to fulfill a dim sum craving. But other than that I’ll pass.

When we’re in Union City and we are too lazy to cook(or we don’t feel like spending a lot of $ for food) this is where we go to get dinner. They have a special menu — 3 items for $ 21! My favorite trio– mapo tofu, salt and pepper pork, and mongolian chicken. Their dim sum’s good too! Delicious Chinese food and decent value for money.

I don’t like writing bad reviews but I have to write this one. Their food might be OK, I don’t know. For the 2nd time I was never served. After waiting 15 minutes after they were supposed to open, waited another 20 minutes with no attention still. We were the first ones there and the next table got attention first. Never again.

I grew up on china town dim sum, it wasn’t the best, but i’d pick this place over mayflower anyday. It’s not too bad for the price, The food was descent. they encourage cash payment, but they do take card. You can’t go wrong with all day Dimsum. So if you’re looking for a cheap Dimsum fix at odd hours of the day, this is your spot.

This place is not known for their service. Reviewers can knock them all they want but with limited resources, this is all they can offer. What they do excel at imo is their dim sum and prices. They’re good enough to steal plenty of business from Mayflower in the same shopping center. They have a pretty good following and weekends are usually busy.

It ain’t fancy –wedged in the inside corner of strip mall but it does all the staples well! Our guest had a craving for dimsum & chow fun noodles– on a Monday. So we arrived here & gorged on old school treats. I could live on simple porridge w salt pork & preserved egg & a side of Chinese broccoli. Service here highly variable but our very tall thin waitress was super helpful & way more friendly than your average Chinese place! We left fat & happy.

Who cares about the service and ambience. The food is a damn good for the price. As a seasoned traveler, this place has the seasoned cooks just around the corner.

Really solid place to get dim sum, they are all freshly made and as Chinese authentic as it gets. Pros: unlimited amount of choices, serve dim sum all day! The Dim sum prices vary from 2.83 to 4.83 depending on the size, very cheap! They also serve specialty items that are all under 10 dollars. Cons: The food comes out sometimes one by one, so be try to be patient. The entire staff is Chinese, so they might have a difficulty understanding what you say so be patient with them. I’ve been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and most of the staff are a bit snotty, but here at HK top, they staff are as friendly as it gets at a Chinese restaurant. So even though they may mistaken«spare ribs» for«salt and pepper squid», which really happened to me, they staff was so friendly and attentive, it didn’t really matter. Plus the squid was delicious anyways so it didn’t really matter. This is a go to spot for all day dim sum if you’re located in Union City, or near it.

The food is descent and price is fair, but the service is just ridiculous. I know Chinese restaurants don’t have the best service, so my expectations weren’t high. But never have I ever been to a restaurant where the servers acknowledge you, as if they were going to help you, and then they go back to doing whatever unimportant task it was that they were doing. This happened multiple times on my last visit, which was so annoying.

Just tried ordering three dimsum items to go since I’m the only one eating. The lady running the place made a hissing sound indicating what seemed like annoyance with my order and walked away. I assumed she did not want to take my order since she just dismissed me and never came back so I also walked away. It would have been my first time trying their food and so I’m pretty disappointed.

Kinda divey but the chefs here know how to wok. Not«walk», I said«wok», git it? A slight open kitchen gave me a glimpse of their skill set, and now I have faith. The menu is large so misses are in the works, but if you find some gems to your liking, it is worth to put this place in your rotation. Won Ton Noodle Soup — Noodles crazy thin, broth kinda bland/mild. But the won tons were large and quite juicy. More of a won ton dish than it is a soup. Pork Ribs, black bean sauce(dim sum menu) — Tiny, chopped up pieces in a light black bean sauce. Seemed steamed but still decent. Salt/Pepper Wings — Really good, perfectly fried. Did not seem re-cooked, which a lot of Asian places do. Thin jalapeño slices send it humming, huuuummmmmm. Shrimp Noodle Roll — Don’t know cuz they were out of it on 3 visits. Just take it off your menu already, geeeshhh. Shanghai Dumpling — Soup dumpling just so-so. Wrapper wasn’t too thick which is good. But the pork filling was a bit«swine-y». I got that term from Andrew Zimmern, btw. Seafood in XO Sauce — Pretty good umami burst. The sauce may be «fishy» to some, but I love that dried seafood flavor. Chiles and garlic are also in the profile. Good mix of seafood to boot. Peking Style Pork Chops — Just call it «sweet n sour pork». That is what it seemed to me at least. If I woulda known/asked, I probably would of opted for something more unique. Oh wells. Mustard Greens with Black Mushroom — Protocol, greens nice and tender yet vibrant and earthy mushrooms are slick and full flavored. Great veggie dish. Prices are pretty cheap, especially if you go the small plate/dim sum route. Their tea is legit too, so I’ll probably start being a reg here. Menu exploration, here I come!

While I felt the service wasn’t too bad, the company I was with seemed to have felt otherwise. Partially because the company I was with orders their meals in Cantonese, I guess the waitress did not understand because she only spoke Mandarin. She apparently could not take simple orders in english either, like when we asked for«4 bowls.» Anyhow, the restaurant had unfortunately run out of chow fun noodles, so we were unable to get some of the things we ordered, like XO noodles or the beef noodle rolls. I was pretty disappointed… I can say that I definitely enjoyed their vegetable dishes, especially their gai lan(Chinese broccoli). I felt also enjoyed their fried rice dish because it had a buttery taste to it, which is unusual for a Chinese dish I think. Overall, a lot of their dishes are very salty though. So, if you have a low sodium diet, you may want to stray away from this location for Chinese food. The company I was with could not continue eating because the food was practically doused in salt, or had salt chunks. The good thing about this place is that they serve dim sum all hours of the day. But obviously, you may have to get there early if you want any kind of chow fun noodle.

One of the worst restaurant I ever been, the chef doesn’t know how to cook at all the food is disgusting It make me sick! Please don’t come here unless you want to challenge your stomach…

Food is pretty good, so it could be an alternative to Mayflower(as far as Dim Sum is concerned) in the same strip mall. However the quality of the food is offset by the lack of service provided. If they coild figure out the service part, then this would be an excellent restaurant, until then, merely good.

The family and I were in the area and decided to try HK Top as something new. The low prices were enticing and the various food items on the menu drew us in. We ordered the special deal(three entrees and a soup) once we were seated: beef and broccoli, calamari, and sweet and sour chicken. The soup of the day(chicken feet and carrots) was very bland and I had to have soy sauce to make it somewhat tasty. We didn’t even bother to eat the rest and asked the waitress to take it away. The rest of the dinner improved once the entrees came. I was pleasantly impressed with the calamari and beef and broccoli(even though I’m not usually a fan of either). The breading on the calamari had a enjoyable crunch to it and the squid inside tasted fresh. The beef and broccoli was not overwhelmed with sauce and the broccoli’s freshness spoke for itself. However, I was disappointed with the sweet and sour chicken because it wasn’t as crunchy as I had hoped, making me feel as if it was slimy. The service was average. The ambiance lacked. Overall, dinner was average. I would come back definitely for the calamari and maybe to try the dim sum.

The staff seemed completed uninterested in serving us. After seating us it took them over 5 minutes to give us menus, another 10 minutes to come take our order, and well over 20 minutes to bring out our food. During the entire time we were waiting on our food, a server came by to check on us only twice to refill our water, and stare at our empty table. Sorry, people, we weren’t just sitting at your restaurant for your water but because you guys haven’t prepared our food yet. The food itself was okay, nothing special, and nothing worth the wait we had to endure.

Great dim sum cooked to order. Came in on Labor Day weekend and was thoroughly impressed with the freshness of their food along with the speediness of their wait staff. The biggest plus side to this restaurant was the Hong Kong style dim-sum. I would refrain from ordering the non-Cantonese dim sum foods as they were not as great and could have been better(such as the ShangHai bun). That being said, I did appreciate the variety of foods they offered on their menu. The hugest con of this restaurant is the lack of air conditioning. It was a summer afternoon when I ate here, but it felt like over 100 degrees from where I was sitting. The tea is also very diluted even though you can see the tea leaves in your cup. All in all, it is a solid dim sum restaurant in the Union City area.
