Irma’s Bridal & Alteration

The problem when you buy clothes online is that sometimes they don’t fit the way you think it is going to fit. Then you go looking for a place to alter the clothes and that’s how I found this one. Super nice lady… clothes fit now… happiness ensues.

On November 21^st, I took a pair of Nike fleece sweatpants to be hemmed and tapered so that I could get the right fit I wanted. I walked into Irma’s and the place seemed fine enough. I’m very particular about the people who do my alterations. I’ve had the worst people ruin clothes for me, and I’ve had people save those ruined clothes and make them staples in my casual wardrobe.
I called Irma a few days in advance and she quoted me $ 26 for the tapering and hemming of my pants. When it was all said and done, I was only charged $ 16. I quoted Irma $ 26, and she said $ 16. She could have easily taken the extra $ 10, but she was honest enough not to do so. +2 stars.
Unfortunately, that’s pretty much where my good experiences with this place end. When I arrived at Irma’s there was a woman working on a sewing machine and Irma, watching Tagalog teleseryes behind the counter.
She took a look at my pants and began marking with pins where she would make the alterations. I asked her if I could try on the pants and have her mark the pins (like normal alteration places do) and she seemed resigned to do so. She informed me that since my pants were double stitched, should would be limited in the amount of tapering she could do.
I tried on the pants and told Irma what I was looking for. I previously had a pair of Nike fleece sweatpants hemmed and tapered so that they fit nicely down my leg and were an appropriate length. Irma seemed disinterested in determining the perfect cut for my pants, even going as far as to say that sweatpants SHOULD be baggy. She was very reluctant to get on the ground and do proper measuring.
I knew this would turn bad when I asked her for her opinion on length and tapering width. She said that she did not want to advise me or recommend something because she didn’t want the blame if I didn’t like it. If I didn’t need her expertise, I would have altered my own goddamned pants. That’s like going to a hair stylist, asking for a recommendation based on their expertise, and them saying, «I’m just gonna cut how you tell me.»
Irma promised my pants to be ready by the 25^th of November, right before Thanksgiving. My pants were ready on December 3^rd. Sure, my pants were hemmed, and sure they were tapered (barely), but the quality was very poor compared to what I’ve received in the past.
Fortunately for me, these are just sweatpants and I’d probably only really wear them to 7eleven or Target. Unfortunately for Irma, I’ll probably be looking for a different alterations place in the future.
If you’re looking for an expert in Tagalog teleserye, this is your place. If you’re looking for an expert to make fashionable adjustments to your clothes, probably worth trying a different place.
PS. Be wary of your favorite articles of clothing if they’ve been altered. I bought the same Nike pants twice. Very different results.

Came in to get a quote for my full lace wedding dress. Irma was very nice and knowledgeable. She explained what she will need to do and why the price is what it is which is reasonable compare to what other places had quoted me for. My dress requires her to take the lace off and hand sew each lace back on. I’m planning to come back in a few months to get my altered by her.

This place is great the lady was very helpful patient i had no idea what i wanted and she helped me narrow it down.

Irma was so helpful when I was trying to find a dress for prom and helped me find one that would look good with my size and figure (by seeing which styles and colors that would look good on me). She hemmed my dress even when she had a lot of clients and even finished my dress early. Thank you so much Irma!

Purchased a dress online per the brides request and when it arrived it was a lot larger than I expected! Searched for the best seamstress in union city and I found Irma! I called and made an appointment for her to see the damage that same day and left feeling 100% sure that she was going to take care of me! She did a lovely job on such a short notice! The fit was perfect! I cannot be more grateful!

Out of all the little boutiques and bridal shops that I’ve entered, Irma had the best customer service, ever! I came in one day with my mom looking for bridesmaid dresses and Norma referred me to some of her selections for the color blush pink. She was really sweet and it didn’t feel like she was trying to hustle me.
I haven’t bought my ladies bridesmaid dresses through her just yet since I am still shopping around, but so far, she is my top choice.

Irma does not play you with money. Went to another bridal type store in Newark and got my prom dress for over $ 300 and I came into Irma’s store, saw the same exact dress for about $ 200 cheaper! The prices for the catalog was there and everything! She is super nice and very helpful!

This place was great. Irma is very catering and fast. I took her a dress we ordered online to her a week before the event, and she had the dress perfectly altered for us 3 days early for a great price despite it being a busy time for her.
She’s a one woman do it all herself shop, but she’s so efficient and fast, you would never know that.

I love this shop! I came in today to find a dress for my winter ball at school and I found one for $ 35 but when I tried it on the neckline was too low so she went around the store and got all the dresses that were my size. I tried on three and the third one fit perfectly and was the most prettiest dress ever! The dress was only $ 65 too. I ended up getting the dress and a tiara. I can’t wait for the winter ball now!

If I can give Irma more stars. I definitely would !! Amazing lady to work with. Although my gown and all my bridesmaids dresses were purchased somewhere else and just needed to be altered, she gave us first class service !! Very patient and so affordable. Coming to her shop, feels like visiting a family member. Very happy i met and found her. My gown was absolutely beautiful, she made sure I was comfortable from head to toe. My veil… Perfection !! I was not planning on wearing one but she told me my gown is just a dress without a veil and sure enough. It was gorgeous !! I cannot thank her enough! I have so much compliments on how beautiful the veil was!

Irma is the sweetest lady you will ever meet! She altered my wedding dress, bridesmaid dress and a few pants of mine. Her prices are very reasonable. She has a mini selection of barongs, bridal and formal wear. Irma worked at David’s Bridal as a seamstress and decided to open up her own shop. I recommend her for all your alteration needs!
