We ordered take out and decided to eat a tres leches while we waited. Overall, it was pretty good. I thought the sauteed beef with onions was also really good! The reason for my review was the chicken. The seasoning was off for some reason. Also, we tried the yucca appetizer but I feel like it wasn’t yucca. I would still come back; I heard their disco fries are amazing, so I would definitely give that a try next time I’m in the area.

I love everything about this place and all of their food. the pork is my favorite. I was a fan before the restaurant opened, and I am so thrilled it opened so close by. I keep going back, just for the pork and rice, and those plantains

I ordered takeout from El Lechon De Negron. The empanadas are very good. I tried all of the empanada flavors: beef, chicken, BBQ pulled pork and chorizo. The beef and pulled pork were my favorite. I would not recommend getting the chorizo empanada as it was too salty. Also tried the Cuban sandwich which was dry. Prices are very reasonable. I’d like to try one of the entrees next time.

As the saying goes, «Where there’s pork, there’s me…(in line waiting to eat)” – or something like that. If you aren’t able to chase down their food truck, you could stop by their small sit-in restaurant a few minutes past Five Points. Empanadas($ 3/ea or 2 for $ 5): We tried the Spinach/Cheese, Chicken, and Chorizo and definitely enjoyed them. They were freshly fried, so that’s always a plus. Each one is pretty large and stuffed generously, while the taste was great; they were flavorful. In order of preference, however, I would go for Spinach/Cheese, Chicken, and then the Chorizo. Pernil Plate($ 9): El Lechon de Negron is best known for their lechon(roasted pork), so this was a must order for us. I was really happy that the pork was tender, juicy, and flavorful. My fear was that it would be dry, but I’m glad that was not the case. All plates are served with arroz con gandules, maduros, and a side salad. Mofongo Plate w/Pork($ 9): I’ve never had mofongo, so I could not skip on this. It comes with your choice of meat, so I went with roasted pork. The mofongo was interesting – it had a great crispy crust and was pretty flavorful; I thought it would be bland. It came with a slightly sweet tomato-vegetable sauce, but I chose not to use it. The roasted pork was a good match. Bistec Encebollado Plate($ 10): The thick strips of beef tenderloin were tender and juicy, which went well with the caramelized onions. It was flavorful, but I would’ve liked a little more sauce(or «the juices» the beef and onions were sauteed in). The arroz con gandules and plantains were great sides. We all enjoyed lunch here; everything we ordered was delicious. Portions are perfect for lunch, too. I’d come back for more lechon and empanadas!

I’m very picky when it comes to MY Puerto Rican cuisine Growing up in NYC and traveling to PR on Manny occasions. The place seems like a small start up. Portions were excellent, price point was well set. I ordered the Pernil Y arroz can gandules, Tostones and Alcapurria. Rice was cooked perfect flavored well and not salty the Pernil was shredded flavored well but was hoping for sliced with with crispy chicharron on top but just the same flavored very well. Portions were so large I could not complete my meal. The menu was small and had several options some of which were modern takes on traditional dishes. Well worth a visit for freshly cooked food for lunch or on a night when you don’t want to cook dinner. Service was quick and the staff was friendly and inviting. Well worth a visit.

My review is more like 3.5. I stopped by Lechon de Negron for late lunch with my husband. We arrived just in time… There was only one table empty and we held it with our coats until we ordered our food. We were surprised that it was this busy on a rainy afternoon. Then again, the restaurant had limited seating. I ordered the pernil platter with chicken empanadas and an alcapurria. We received the empanadas and alcapurria first because they were cooking more yellow rice. The empanadas were delicious. The alcapurria was bland. The platters arrived a few minutes later. The pernil was delicious. The rice was mushy but good. Loved the maduros. The staff was friendly. I enjoyed the music. I felt like I was at one of my family parties.

My team and I at work religiously order out every Thursday. After some Unilocal research of the area it drew us to this establishment. Here’s my two cents… The staff is very nice, and that’s one of the most influential keys to me liking a place. As for the food, it was average at best. The meat was pretty well seasoned but the yellow rice lacked taste. The white rice my coworker received was so hard he couldn’t eat it. The platano maduros I thought were a bit too soft. The Lechon fries were cool but were drenched in salt. For the dessert we got the Tres Leches cake. I thought this was actually really good and I love desserts.

If I see pork, I’m eating it. I came here for a late lunch with 3 other Unilocalers who happen to be family and on a recommendation by fellow Unilocaler Jav D. Porking(parking) was easy and the place was definitely hopping. Since it was my first time, I went a little nuts and ordered a lot. Throughout the entire feast, service was super friendly. I started with perfectly fried Chorizo/cheese Empanadas and Beef Empanadas stuffed with well-balanced, easy-to-eat goodness. The Cubano sandwich arrived in a neat presentation of moist, quality, slow roasted pork, ham, swiss, mustard, and pickles on Cuban bread. Then came a decadent sight to behold– the Lechon Disco Fries piled with melted mozzarella, juicy, roasted pork, gravy, cilantro, and onions. This may be considered a side, but it’s a meal! I tried 3 of their platters which all came with a protein, fluffy, flavored rice with little beans, a small salad, and Plantanos Maduros(fried plantains). The Pernil was perfectly porky with slow roasted pork shoulder in a bright mojo marinade while the Bistec Encebollado impressed with marinated sautéed beef slices and caramelized onions. The Mofongo came with my choice of marinated steak(pretty tasty, but slightly tough), mashed green plantains and a drizzling tomato/veggie sauce I thoroughly enjoyed. I’m already planning my next meal here.

I can’t say enough enough good things about this place. Great food, great prices, even better people. Although the lechon is the star of the show here, I’m yet to have something I didn’t like. From the burger, to the empanadas, to the mofongo. There is a lot of love put into the food here. Go there and order everything.

This place brings Puerto Rico to Union, NJ. The minute you walk in, you hear the salsa music playing and the restaurant(though small) is decorated nicely. Today I had the chicken mofongo, two alcapurrias, rice, platanos maduros and tres leches cake. The mofongo was outstanding, the taste and texture was perfect. The alcapurrias are big and cooked to the right tenderness. The tres leches cake is moist and sweet like it’s supposed to be. This place doesn’t slack with cooking and the service is pleasant. Totally will come back.

FINALLY! Driving from down south and made a pit stop in Union and a light bulb went off… GOTRYELLECHONDENEGRON and so happy I did. It’s located in a very small strip mall and the parking is not huge but on a Saturday night seemed to be plenty of parking and the place was pretty busy. It had about 4 tables to sit comfy. So we ordered take out. Some food was already made to order and kept in their hot buffet area behind the counter, but there was a sign«Other food requires to be made fresh and will take 10−15min». It didn’t say on the chalkboard which ones so you can always ask over the phone to save you time. Staff was very friendly, I waited a bit along with others but you can definitely see the chaos… it was busy and it was around 6pm so dinner rush. They have daily specials. I had a hard time finding their menu online but I posted pics of their paper menu on Unilocal.Their prices are decent too! We ordered the following: Pernil Platos(generous serving too. .this is their trademark… Pernil is soooo good and our kids loved it) Lechon frito… their daily special… seasoned fried pork belly with tostones, avocado and the yellow rice/beans…I would dip the pork belly in their mayo/ketchup sauce and it was delicious… I personally love my pork belly with that crunch(yes with that fat… my fave that skin) I know so bad for you. Chicken chimichurri… this was my least fave… it was just ok for me… my kids weren’t a fan… this was ordered for them but they ended up eating the pernil. Then empanadas… beef(didn’t get to taste it because my son ate it all so I could imagine it was good), chicken(hubs said it was a bit dry) BUTBUT GUAVA and CREAMCHEESE empanada — Oh man! The guava and cream cheese was amazing and fried to perfection… I wanted more. Tres leche was pretty good… I’ve had better but it didn’t stop me from finishing it. I think if the cake was bit more moist it would of been perfect. And last but not least… my fave… and the reason my belly was so happy… LECHONDISCOFRIES… A MUST if you’re a disco fry freak and if you love slow roasted pork pernil… get it… its $ 8 and the serving is so generous. All this for $ 39.50…what!!!(Check out my pics and you’ll see the serving size) They did forget my black beans for the chicken chimichurru for the white rice but Thank goodness the food was great. I can’t wait to come back to try their lechon burger, MOFONGO, and whatever daily special is available.

Love their pernil platter $ 9…I bought empanada pork, beef and chorizo… I have not tried it yet coz I’m still full, I’m sure it will be good as well It’s located in a small plaza in Union, beside CVS. There is enough parking space, there are 4 tables that can seat about 14 – 15 people. Restroom is clean. Employees are helpful and courteous. I will come back to try their other food. They just opened last week, it looks like people have been waiting for this to open.

So, so good! I got the pernil platter with yellow rice and maduros. The food was ready fast, and it was hot and delicious. Obviously the pork is the star of the show, but even the little salad is worth your time. The price is right, too! I’ve also tried the empanadas, and the mayo-based sauce is the perfect compliment to them. The disco fries are fire. I will be back on the regular – loved it!

Ordered take out tonight from here on our way home and were so happy that we did! What surprised me was the fact that it took us about twenty minutes to drive home after picking up the food, then we had to bring the kids up who fell asleep in the car, which was followed by us having to get situated in the house before even getting to sit down to eat and it was still delicious… The Lechon disco fries was easily the big winner of the night. You really can’t go wrong when you take one of my all time favorite munchies dish disco fries, then elevate it by adding one of the best pernils around on top of it. I can’t imagine how much better this dish would have been if we ate it right away. I ordered the pernil platos(shredded pork shoulder) for myself which just showcased the pernil on a bed of rice with beans and maduros. Once again, their pernil is great, some of the best I’ve had. In the end I didn’t even get to finish it since my kids kept wanting more! My wife went with the special tonight, Lechon Fritos which is basically deep fried pork belly. Seasoned well, I was sneaking a bite from her plate every chance I got. We also ordered 3 empanadas — beef, chicken, and guava & cheese. Beef was picadillo filled and pretty good, chicken was a bit dry so only so so, but the guava & cheese was fantastic. Once again, these guys just nailed it. Last but not least, my wife had also ordered tres leches. Now, I love tres leches, so it actually kind of rare when I find a spot whose tres leches lives up to my expectations and I gotta say, this one did. Not the best one I have ever had, but easily one of the better ones I’ve had recently. Definitely coming here again.

Nice meeting you, John! Your food was just as good as I remembered it Back in may 2015-The BBQ truck fest! El arroz con gandulas was perfect in flavor not salty or mushy El pernil– excellent. not dry or salty Even the maduros were good. Service was friendly and fast Your facility was clean and tidy Can’t wait to come back to try something new Too bad El Lechon De Negron doesn’t deliver But anyone should make the effort to try this hidden gem.

Oh yeaaa!(Kool aid guy voice). Taste so good. Today I checked out this little hidden gem. I went after work to pick up dinner for my fiancé and I. The place is hidden on Magie ave. It just opened up and this business is fire. I walked in and the place is already with people eating and ordering take out. And not just Hispanics, no the places was packed with people from all over the globe. The menu is small and simple. It does have traditional Puerto Rican food and the fried stuff. I didn’t get the fried goodies because I need to look good in my shirt tonight so I avoided it. But next time I will definitely get that. So I ordered the special Camarones al Ajio(shrimp in garlic sauce) with arroz Con gandules and tostones.(Rice with banana). I ordered a small soup on the side. Took that bad boy home to chow down. It was soooo good. The food was absolutely tasty. The seasonings were refreshing taste for the mouth. The soup was good as well. The hot sauce came on the side. This place is a must check out. Definitely trying the Pernil and pastels next. Yumm Good eats. The Fiancé was happy and so was I.

For two years in a row, this truck has been my primary target for food at the Monmouth Raceway Truck Festival. The food is delicious, but the lines are horrendous. In fact, at my last visit the part of my group that waited on this line used the entire time we were there to wait for food. It had to be two-plus hours. That’s not so much a reflection on the truck as it is a reflection on the poor management of this event. This time we missed the roast pig, so I opted for the mofongo and pork. I love mofongo and order it every time I can(well, when Lechon isn’t available, that is). We also had Disco Fries with pork and the pork with arroz con gondules(rice with peas). I could have done without the tomato sauce on the mofongo, though smashed plantains require some lubricant. Maybe I should have asked for the gravy that went on the disco fries because that was spectacular. So, if you see this truck around your area and it’s not at a poorly organized truck festival, get on line and get some pork. You’ll be happy you did.
