Lightning Brook Park

This should be a Union hotspot for kids given the soccer field/​baseball diamond, ample parking, and engaging swing sets, but Union County’s neglect of upkeep relegates Lightning Broom to a disappointing local option. The playground is badly in need of minor leveling and fresh wood chips– something the county has declined to maintain for many years now. More trash cans are needed as well as an upgrade from the filthy portable toilet.
The playground features lots of benches with great sight lines for parents to sit and watch their kids play. There is a large activity center with monkey bars, climbing stations, and several different types of slides. Three different swing sets, including a tire swing (the major draw of the playground) mean something for most able-​bodied kids. There are no accessible swings or activities, which excludes young people who use wheelchairs or who require more support.
