When you see the name Sheraton, you expect a certain level of quality, unfortunately the Universal Sheraton sacrifices Sheraton quality in favor of location. You’re certainly not paying for what you get, and my guess is that if you’re reserved here, you’re paying a lot. The pros first: The staff I interacted with at the hotel were all friendly, helpful and smiling. I stayed over this past weekend which was Oscar weekend and the workers took the additional traffic in stride. Unfortunately, that’s about the only good thing I can say for the hotel. After we checked into our room, we discovered we had been placed on the TP level, which is a nice way to say«basement». Our view consisted of a shrub and a walkway, not quite the vista we were expecting and offering little in terms in terms of privacy. Our room was situated such that we could elect to exit through the hallway to the elevators, or if we wanted to just slide open the glass window and walk to the parking lot. To save money, the hotel doesn’t run the A/C in the room before you get in. The first two hours in our room was unbearably while the ancient air conditioner struggled to bring down the mercury. This would have been okay if the room was decent, which wasn’t the case. This hotel is certainly showing its age, the carpets and walls bore stains of mystery liquids. The walls were paper thin, and the nocturnal activities of neighboring guests and the ice machine in the hallway were on clear auditory display. I think what is most telling of the state of this hotel is the fact that over the course of our stay at the Sheraton Universal, only one of the three elevators were functioning. Getting from the room to the lobby was often a 10+ minute wait. I understand that the location of this hotel is what really attracts people here, and Sheraton Universal knows this by sticking you with a $ 28.00 overnight parking charge on top of your overpriced room. There are other options out there which I’d take a serious look at before booking at the Sheraton Universal.

The staff is terrific! The only reason for stars at all are a result the awesome Room Service Staff and the food is consistently very good. My room is usually very clean and I appreciate the basics. Disappointing facility overall. Being a Starwood member I usually find that my room requests are met. Unfortunately the last two times that I’ve stayed at the Universal Sheraton I found that the requests were not recognized from my profile. I was put in a very dark small and cold room on the 1st floor. The rooms was so small that the room service cart could not make it inside. The gentleman delivering the food had to unload in the hall and carry the tray in. Because there is no table large enough to place the tray we had to eat on our bed. This is the second visit that I had facility issues. This time the toilet did not flush well and Continued to run. What a terrible waste of water in a time that California is suffering from one of the worst droughts in its history. I did let the front desk know so hopefully that repair will be done immediately. Lastly, I find it very frustrating that the hotel controls the room temperature. Heat is not available and when I called the front desk the explanation is that the system cannot handle air and heat at the same time. I was told heat would be available after 10pm. Unfortunately I never could get my room temp above 73 degrees.

I was at a daytime event at this facility so I can’t comment on the hotel rooms but I can tell you that the facility was really cool I think this would be a great place to stay if you were going to visit Universal Studios Hollywood. The hotel was most likely built in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s so it doesn’t feel ultra modern but it does have a style that reminds you of old Hollywood. The pool area looked like somewhere you’d have seen the starlets hanging out in cabanas waiting for the directors to show up and run lines with them I was served a box lunch(but that’s on the event promoter) so I really can’t even comment on that because I didn’t eat the meal, but overall the catering was clean and the staff was on top of the event to make sure it was comfortable for all in attendance. The biggest take away from the experience was the view form the room we had the meeting in. 21st floor, looking North was a view of San Fernando Valley and the South facing view was of the Hollywood Hills. It was foggy when the meeting started and you couldn’t see much either way when the meeting started but by the end of the day you could see for miles and miles! I’d like to see the skyline from this place in the evening!

The Annual Holiday Party was held here and the staff did an amazing job! The event went perfectly which is hard to do with 900 people! The food was delicious, always love the tomato soup. Flourless chocolate cake is really good. Steve and the catering team always take care of us! We appreciate all you do to make our events a success! The service provided is the best! The rooms are beautiful! Nice views on the 16th&17th floors. The continental breakfast and cappuccino is a nice treat. Valet service is always a plus. See you next year!

If you’re looking for great customer service… look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a nice room… maybe check the Hilton next door. And if you’re looking for the Starwood/Sheraton standard… you won’t find it here Upon check in they are not welcoming at all. They don’t give you any info on services or amenities and the staff is very short and too the point. And the same in regards to check out, not even a «how did you enjoy your stay». Instead you get a «didn’t you get an email receipt?». Oh and the concierge, nothing but condescending.
