Ringing Rocks Family Campground

Lots of great folks at this campground with both the staff and the other campers. Clean facilities and lots of activities on the weekends

This place was just terrible! We were placed in a site right across from the live on site camp Nazi «manager». Kids were too loud, music was too loud, after 10pm our whispers were too loud. We had 3 – 4 visits from the manager with requests that we obliged and were even told «I know it’s not quite time but thank you». On the last visit at 11pm I was pretty upset. I told him, I have done everything you have asked and now we are whispering, what do you want from me? I’m tired of you sneaking up on us and I’m tired if seeing your face! I think I scared him because he tucked his tail and called the boss. In the morning we were blessed by a visit from the owner Joe, I think his name was. We were told we had to follow the rules but he could not name a rule we broke. We were told he was «letting us» have 4 adults on our site. Even though we paid for the 2 adult quest over night fee. We were then told the website is «confusing» as he was searching for something else we did wrong. We decided to leave a day early since we were no longer welcome at this campground. We will never visit this place again and will tell every camper we know, this is not a place to have fun if you are not a seasonal camper (your camper stays year round) at this place. The management is very pushy, and unpleasant.

Before proceeding with this review, I must declare that I was visiting guests in the campground rather than actually staying at said area (I previously lived in the area and had recently returned to welcome a friend home from a deployment). My review will be quite long in that I want to cover every aspect of what happened in order to be as impartial as possible. That being said:
The on-​site manager/​owner at the time (I cannot recall his name — the incident happened about two weeks ago and I have waited until now to post a review both in order to cool down in addition to talking to other guests/​witnesses) has got to be one of the most overbearing and rude people I have encountered.
I first pulled in to the parking lot outside of the main building in order to safely make a call on my phone in an effort to learn where my friends were staying. No sooner had I parked than a man points at me and tells me that I need to buy a parking pass. I inform the individual that I am just making a phone call in order to attempt to locate a family who I am trying to visit as I know they have been in the area. He asks who the family is, and I inform him.
This last note is of importance– the manager in question had issues with guests in the vicinity of the family I was visiting. From talking to said manager, the family I was visiting, and others I learned that the previous night a group of individuals was extremely rude and disruptive prompting some guests to leave in the morning out of anger. It is possible that the manager thought I was associated with said individuals — althought I do not believe that excuses his behavior.
The man in question goes elsewhere for a minute or two before returning and yelling and gesturing to me in a demeaning manner, «You need to buy a parking pass to use the campground!» Keep in mind my car is still running and I have been in the main parking lot for less time than it would take to go to the bathroom. At this point I raise my voice and respond, «I am making a phone call, I will get a pass when I need to get on the campground». Not wanting to deal with said individual, I moved my car the 10 feet to the state paved road whilst I made contact with the people I was trying to meet up with. After discovering their location– I parked my car and bought a pass from another individual in the camp store. I thought this was the end of the ordeal.
As we are walk to the family’s tent, we encounter the owner/​manager on the trail. The owner initially asks the individuals I am with general questions about the residents in their area (attempting to investigate the complaints from other residents who left earlier in the morning) before recognizing me from the parking lot. After generally ranting, the individual in question noticed my military haircut and inquired as to whether or not I was in the military. Before I could say anything, the mother of the guest I was with stated, «Yes he is in the Marines». The manager/​owner had the gumption to point at my chest and say, «Well I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Army, and you are a Marine, so when I tell you to do something, I expect you to do it.» I literally bit my tongue to the point of bleeding so as to not say something that would result in negative repercussions upon the individuals I was visiting. Despite the individual’s previous megalomania, this was an entirely new level. The conversation (or rant) ended soon after.
As previously mentioned, I was only visiting the area and facility, however I know that both the family I was visiting and the individuals I was visiting with have NO plans to ever support the campground as long as this individual is in charge.

This place has plenty of sites that would work well for hammocks. Water service is close by. There are even electrical sites. Bathrooms have warm showers. There is even a laundry room. The people who work here are very friendly and had no issues with hammocks or bike tourists. I will definitely come back.

Went for a quick outdoor adventure… tent camping at a «primitive» site, meaning that there are no electric or water hook-​ups. We’re novice car campers (meaning we pack a ton of stuff in the car and drive right up to where we set up camp).
The tents sites are pretty, a bit overgrown, but it was their opening weekend, so I can let that slide.
The good:
Owners were very friendly and accomodating. The other campers were polite but not overly friendly.
It seems like you’re really secluded, even though it’s just a few hundred yards from the basketball court and bathrooms. If we positioned our chairs a certain way, it was like we were the only people there (to be fair, we were most of the time).
The okay/​neutral:
Bathrooms were clean, but not very modern. It’s camping, so I’m not going to complain.
The store was not the best or worst stocked I’ve ever seen. We forgot mustard for our obligatory hot dogs, and I saw that they had a bottle for $ 1.39 (which I thought was pretty reasonable).
The not so great:
The camp seems a little run down, but it’s under new management this year so maybe that’ll change?
A few notes:
Noise really carries (mostly because when it’s quiet, it’s really really quiet). So we were speaking in whispers after 10PM. It’s perfect for a young family or couple, but maybe less so for a rowdier group.
It’s close to Lake Nockamixon, which was very pretty. We rented a kayak (they also had pontoons and motor boats). I think they also rented rods and sold bait.
PS. Nature is really really loud in the morning. I thought we were in a jungle or something.
