Still the best coffee shop in champaign-urbana. For the quality of coffee you are getting, the prices are fantastic.

Everyone should have a home, and a home coffee shop. Sometimes people move homes; as long as Flying Machine is here, I won’t be moving my home coffee shop. Amazing coffee, awesome space to get work done, and friendly, knowledgeable ownership and staff that love their coffee. As I’ve rumbled through graduate school, I’m so glad this place is here to make the mornings of work more fun.

My favorite café out of every coffeehouse in Champaign-Urbana, both on and off campus. I love it to death but I cannot give 5 stars. The rundown: 1) Knowledgeable staff — they have few baristas but each one is extremely knowledgeable about coffee and create their work with pride. 2) Quality coffee — partly due to the staff, and partly due to the good ingredients they use– the foundation being artisanal beans that can be sourced. 3) Ambience — excellent. There are booth tables, stand tables overlooking the windows, individual tables, and bench-like tables for larger groups. 4) One downside– The only problem is that only the booth with high chairs along the window have outlets, which is a shame because out of all the cafes, they have the FASTEST Wi-Fi connection!

Best coffee in CU. The atmosphere is clean and bright and there’s plenty of seating. Great place to focus and get some work done, especially if you’re a grad student looking for something a little less crowded than the campus coffee shops.

I felt like I was instantly transported to Seattle when I walked through the door. Low-key vibe, hipsters, body jewelry, tattoos, laptops, Asians and great coffee. No one threw a fish at me though.

Pros: The pour over coffee is pretty good — deep & smooth. They have a large selection of specialty sodas. I had a hot ginger beer & it was so flavourful that it was like a b*#@% slap in the throat. The beer selection is decent as well. The staff is really nice & can help you pick out the ideal beverage du jour. They share a space with Pizza M so you can order a fancy pizza in tandem with your drinks. Cons: The acoustics are terrible. It’s usually loud. And there’s so much echo that it’s difficult to carry on a conversation it concentrate on studies. Drinks are a little pricy.

The coffee is always very good and the baristas are always very knowledgeable and friendly. If I’m in the Urbana area, I always stop by here to grab a coffee to go and I’m never disappointed, but each time I just wonder if I am going to be beard smashed by all the hipsters in the establishment.

Great, creative specialty drinks, I enjoyed the Sweet Heat Latte, see the menu in the picture. Also enjoyed a Dark Matter coffee ground and served by Chemex, with many more coffee beans to choose from a menu at the bar.

Flying Machine is a great choice for coffee lovers. They offer french press, pour overs, and much more! I frequently order their chai teas and americanas. Never ever disappointed. Their drinks are top quality and they offer some wonderful bakery items as well. I will say — if you’re going to the Flying Machine, make sure to plan on going for lunch or dinner. Flying Machine shares a space with Pizza M, which is arguably one of the best pizza places in Urbana!

This place is definitely worth the trip off campus! Great coffee and atmosphere. I had the rosemary mocha and it was delicious. I already can’t wait to try their special latte as well. The coffee is artisan and very high quality, and they do pour overs, french press, etc. Definitely a must-go if you are into good coffee. I definitely plan to come back when I’m hungry as well so I can try a pizza to go with their delicious coffee.

C-U needs a true local coffeeshop with comfortable seating and a cool atmosphere. This is about as close as you’ll get and more people probably need to check it out. So much better than Espresso Royale, but really, anything is.

Great place to do your work. Quiet and fucusing atmosphere. Outlets everywhere, coffee and pizza are amazing. I like they serve water in mason jars.

I like the coffee here. Some of the flavors are more unique and delicious, so that is good; the standard coffee choices are also decent here. The baristas are friendly, a little snobby at times, but not on purpose. I like the atmosphere; it’s a hipsters dream, they used to sell beard oil, just saying.

This place is an unknown gem in Urbana. Hidden off of Main Street lies Flying Machine Coffee… A minimalistic, artistic, locally owned, coffee house. They have pour overs!!! I repeat, POUROVERS. This is something missing in the rest of the CU area. Did I mention the coffee is actually good. Yeah, its amazing. They have all your quality coffee house options. French Press, Drip, Chemex, espresso, pour overs… Ugh. I can’t even handle my happiness. I also saw they have artisan lattes. If you have never had this, stop what you’re doing and go now. Rosemary Mocha. Its the really deal. They also have over fired pizza. I didn’t try that yet… YET. ;) I’ll be «flying» back for more coffee soon.

I’ve been to the pizza place a bunch but never had anything from Flying Machine since I don’t drink coffee. Last night, I met a colleague and had an iced chai. It was delicious!

Love Flying Machine. Thank you for providing delicious, artistic coffee to Chambana. The specialty drinks are pricey($ 5 each) and the brewed coffee is weak af but overall, a good place for tasty espresso drinks. This is definitely not a place to get baked goods… Just don’t do it. Whoever is making their pastries, unfortunately, is not a good chef, which sucks because they won’t let you bring in outside food unless it’s from a partner deal with Pandamonium Donuts(which is also not tasty). The hipster style is cringe-inducing but oh well. I just try to look out the window instead of at the amazingly large group of fantastically poorly dressed people all collected into one place.

Perfect atmosphere and great coffee. Lattes are amazing but classic pour overs are good too.

I am NEVER coming here again! The bad attitude of the Baristas’ is enough to ruin any good cup of coffee. The baristas have some sense of entitlement that adds to their bad customer service. After my one incident of really bad customer service I decided to give this place one more shot. I went in the other day and was immediately annoyed at the costumer service. I still think their coffee is good.

I have been here a couple times, and they make excellent coffee. You can choose to brew your coffee via Chemex or pour over(they may have French Press too, but I’m not too sure), or you can just get regular drip coffee. Additionally, there are several different coffee beans to choose from from roasters all over the midwest. A few downsides: — Both times I have been here, I have had less than friendly baristas with just a little bit of an attitude to make someone visiting Champaign-Urbana feel unwelcome. — The large, cafeteria-style room can be a little drafty, which is not fun in the dead of winter. :/ Regardless, I have enjoyed two productive afternoons studying here, and despite some strange service, I wouldn’t mind going back for a good cuppa joe.
