Extreem«MEH». Lovely on the outside, disappointing on the inside. I saw thing place while driving to the health food store. and thought«oh look! I should try this out». Very rarely do I regret purchasing a croissant… but this time I do. Mine was hard, mushing inside and grossly under proofed. Nothing about this was light, flaky or buttery. I didn’t even finish it. Sadly, the rewarmed croissants from Starbucks are better. I won’t be back. We have far to many other places in town have better pastries. But on that note: why is all the staff at our local pastry places so pissy? Pekara has grumpy face front of house and this place has hipster punk who hates the world running the place alone. Is customer service dead? I won’t go back to places that treat customers like a problem. Try a smile once and while guys… it helps.

overpriced for quality and flavor. I visited during lunchtime on Tuesday and I’m assuming they don’t make all varieties available on all days? I had a crème brûlée and coconut macaroon but they aren’t satisfying at all. I don’t think I’ll come back.

I’ve been here a couple of times but will not be returning. I ordered a poppyseed swirl pastry and the dough was raw in the middle. I didn’t get sick because I noticed something was wrong half way through but this is how people get food poisoning. Plus this is a bakery and they should know better. That being said, they have a nice variety of pastries but they’re just okay and its hit or miss. Everything is really really sickly sweet. I’ve had the almond horns, pear tart, chocolate buns, almond bun, and poppyseed swirl pastries but everything was super sweet. My favorite are the biscotti. Even though they are sweet they pair well with unsweetened coffee. Need a sugar fix? This is the right place for you just make sure your pastries are not raw dough.

I come here way more often than I’m willing to admit. It’s great for that chocolate and sugar fix when I’m having a rough day at work. Favorite items include the almond horn, chocolate mousse, and anything with pastry cream. I have a hypothesis that there is a new baker learning the ropes behind the kitchen. I saw that they had cream puffs for the first time that I’ve noticed! The pastry cream filling was exceptional but the puff itself had an overcooked taste and texture. On a different occasion, my go to favorite the almond horn was burnt with not nearly enough chocolate. I’m sure with time this baker will get the hang of it… stop reading this review and take those pastries out of the oven!

They don’t know how to make baklava but their cheese danish is pretty good. Unfortunately their quality is not always consistent with better or worse taste depending on the day. The crème brûlée has too thick of a consistency, and somehow always makes me sick. Their range of cakes– including the lemon cake is way too heavy that even their small slice(which goes for nearly $ 5) will fill you up for a whole day. Not to mention that their«tiramisu» is just a regular layer flour cake, aka just a coffee cake. They dont use ladyfingers at all. Maybe they should go back to pastry school. Not bad, but definitely not great.

Really cute bakery in downtown Urbana. I came in right before closing and got a piece of chocolate chip coffee cake, which was dense and yummy. I really wish I could have tried some more of their pastries(the almond horn looked pretty cool) so I definitely hope to be back in the future!

Great little bakery. Almond horns are awesome! Ham&swiss croissant and spinach&feta croissant are great! Husband loved the peanut butter cookies and Crème brûlée. Will continue to buy pastries here

Found this pastry shop while apartment hunting with my mom; she had a blueberry egg tart thing, which was outstanding, and I had the chocolate brioche, which was alright but not great. Overall, it seems like they had a decent selection and the prices aren’t too bad so I’ll probably be back.

I STILL have not found a bakery as great as Mirabelle. This has to be the #1 thing I miss about UIUC!!! I live in Manhattan now with many amazing bakeries… but Mirabelle still trumps them all.

The tomato herb pan focaccia is so dang good and most of the pastries are also top notch. The baguette is not my favorite(too tough) and it can get a little tight in there as it’s very small, but overall a delicious place!

The pecan raisin bread and almond horn are both amazing. Only downside is that this place is pretty pricey…

There are two kinds of pastries in this world. The light, flaky crusted, and delicate creations with frothy meringues and lightly sweetened glazes. This is not that place. The other kind of pastry celebrates butter. And sugar. And smacks your tastebuds and knocks your stomach in the gut while taking your blood sugar on a new adventure. Now, usually that kind of pastry is reserved for a less refined bakery; usually it’s reserved for a place that sells«sweets» and«baked goods» and not pastries. So in the world of pastries, Mirabelle occupies a little bit of that rare in between space. That space where pastries still reflect art, but aren’t fluffy. That place where baked goods are good still an art, but an art that will definitely spoil your dinner. As I sat on the streets of downtown Urbana, looking over the bag of bakery items I had just selected, I realized that I was indeed going to spoil my dinner. It began with a massive pepperoni and cheese focaccia/pizza. This thing was huge. HUGE. And it was like $ 4. For the budget-conscious eater(you hear me, students?) your adventure begins and ends here. I had waffled between this and a sandwich, but went with the hot focaccia. Next time I’ll grab the sandwich, but not as a preference, just as a means to keep exploring the menu. My bag also included a slice of raspberry cheesecake, a chocolate dipped macaroon, and a raspberry almond horn. All wonderful choices. All very heavy, but in the good dessert heavy kind of way. I’m a sucker for almond flavor, and this was packed with flavoring, plus covered with slivers of the nuts. And the little dollup of raspberry is just enough to offset that almond punch. I got through almost everything in one sitting, then walked down the road a bit, found a darling little alley and sat down on a bench, looked across at an ivy-covered brick wall, and polished off the rest. Sublime.

Amazing looking pastries and wonderful coffee tucked in this little main street café. Staff was nice and it was very busy on a Friday morning! Staff was very nice and helpful and talkative even with a line, made me feel at home! Great little spot to hit if your in Urbana and you need to make your office smile with some sweet treats.

This is really a 4.5. I can’t give a 5 because of the coffee — that may be cruel, but a pastry place should have very good coffee, too. That said, the pastries are top-notch. I’m not much of a sweets person, but I’ve never had something I didn’t really like. Even things like almond horns — I would rarely consider getting this, but at Mirabelle they look so good, I can’t resist. The biscotti are fantastic.

The pastry was good but there was a fly in the glass display where all the pastry was in and I told the person behind the counter that there is a fly on the cake and she just shrugged me off. That was disgusting and rude. I know people like their pastry but I don’t think I’ll ever eat there knowing they don’t care that flies eat from the same cake they serve to people.

Little shops like this are my favorite finds when I check out somewhere new. On my day off from clinical, I decided to walk over to downtown Urbana from U of I’s campus and I was pleasantly surprised to find Mirabelle Fine Pastry! I walked in and was greeted by the lovely cashier who, fittingly, was wearing one of the most adorable homemade aprons I’ve ever seen. That aside, I was immediately drawn to the beautiful edible works of art on display in the glass cases in front of me. There were lovely fruit pastries and chocolate croissants, but I ended up selecting one of their chocolate-covered macaroons(upon recommendation by the cashier). The size of the macaroon was perfect(no gargantuan delicacies will you find here) and the price point was very affordable. For $ 1.85, I walked out with a special treat having received some wonderful customer service. Upon trying the macaroon, I was very impressed! It was dense and moist with just the right amount of chocolate covering the bottom. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it! With 4 weeks left in Chambana, Mirabelle is a place that I hope to visit a few more times before I pack my bags and head back to St. Louis. Definitely a hidden shop in downtown Urbana!

Yes. Yes yes yes. Everything is right about the baked goods from Mirabelle’s, especially their chocolate coconut macarons. They must make their desserts from pure happiness. Each dessert is just sweet enough. When it needs to be flakey, there is flake. When it needs to be puffy, puffs there are. What more can you demand from perfection?

I came here on a Saturday around 8 a. m to check it out. I was easily able to find parking on the street close to the shop and was happy to see that you only have to pay for the metered parking Mon-Fri. When I got into the shop, I immediately noticed how tiny it was and that there was absolutely no place to sit down. So just be aware of that if you decide to come here, it is definitely a «to-go» place. I wouldn’t say that their selection is huge, but I did see a number of pastries that looked unique and delicious enough that I was not disappointed by the selection. For example, they had poppy seed brioche with frosting, and I might of gotten that had I not been worried about the sticky mess of eating it in my car. So instead I opted for a large hot spinach croissant that only cost me $ 3. I just ate half of it and I’m already full. It was flaky and warm without burning my mouth. Really quite good. This place is worth checking out. Just don’t expect to sit down and enjoy your pastry there.
