This place was full of good. I liked the variety of the salsa bar, the Diabla salsa was hot, smoky and full of flavor, the jalapeño salsa was unusual, but I liked it. I ordered a soft taco and hard taco with odobo(flavored very well, moist and tender) with a side of rice. My daughter got the chicken soft tacos. And they’re FAST! They lose one star for locking the customers out of the bathroom, making us ask for a key to get in. I hate it when restaurants/cafes do that.

not good place I used to come here every now and then for their spicy creamy green sauce, but now all of their sauces are terrible, They seem to have put some kind of preservative in them or something because they have this fermented flavor that burns your throat. All of their salsas are this way. their burrittos are good, their prices are good service is not so good, im sorry but if you are gonna have a business that serves the public then maybe learn enough English to understand people when they order food. whats the point of a full salsa bar when it all tastes like crap

Pretty good for a quick bite. I would have given 4 stars but it seems they have started to water down the salsa bar. They have also made the to go containers for the salsa smaller. I used to love the Diabla salsa but it is really watery now.

First time eating here and the place smelled delicious. The cashier was somewhat friendly but probably it was because there were only 2 people scheduled to work. Pros: 1.) Nacho bar is a plus! You get to help yourself to the chips and pick out your own sauce. There’s quite a variety of flavors to choose from. 2.) You can help yourself to the fountain drinks for refills Cons: 1.) The burrito was bland. Not much flavors to the Chicken Super Burrito. 2.) My burrito wasn’t prepared well. It wasn’t wrapped tight and I felt like I was eating a messy meal from Taco Bell. 3.) Since there was only 2 people staffed and it wasn’t busy, the place could have been wiped down. The tables, chairs, and floors were very sticky. Also, very dusty too. The Nacho Bar is what gives this place a 2 stars. It was the only thing I enjoyed.

Great food. My favorite Mexican joint out here in the Vacaville area. Wicked crispy tacos and shrimp burritos. The green jalapeño salsa is worth the visit in itself except toward the end of the day when they start adding water to it to make it stretch the rest of the day. The only complaint really.

The best chimichangas Ive ever tasted and the service is very hospitable, pretty much my favorite place to get authentic Mexican food in Vacaville.

Ok, so this used to be one of our fav places to eat when we moved here 12 years ago. Used to be able to get a good sized family meal for around $ 25…now it’s $ 40 for the same items we’ve always ordered. That inflation seems awfully high to me! I called for take out two days ago. They put me on hold and forgot about me. I called back, and when I told the guy he(nicely) said, «oh, sorry. We had a big a** order we were trying to fill, and I forgot about you.» Did you just cuss at me?!? Very unprofessional. Take out ordering here can be tough. It’s either hard to understand the person on the phone, or they get something on your order wrong. The food is decent and served quickly. But due to the prices, and the usual trouble I have ordering take out, I give it 3 stars.

Great alternative to surrounding restaurants. Salsa bar was great. Chicken and carnitas burrito were good. I would return if I was passing through again. Location is near the sports authority.

My parents and I ate here for lunch for the very first time. The food was pretty good but the service is what killed it. I have never seen someone so disinterested in their job and have an attitude like I saw this afternoon. I walked up to the counter and said hello to the lady at the register. She didn’t respond at all. Not even a simple smile. I started to order and she still didn’t respond. Finally, after I was done putting in all of our orders she told me the price and handed me a number. We sat down and waited for a long wait for 3 crispy tacos(20 mins). The same lady comes and brings us our food and slams down one of the plates. I still say thank you just to be nice. My dad begins to ask her where the knives are and she doesn’t respond at all. She just points to the location where it’s at. Then she begins to walk away. The food is good but that kind of service is unacceptable. I have read other reviews and others have complained about the same type of service from the same lady. The overall atmosphere is okay. I did notice the salsa bar was very messy and they were out of almost all of the salsas. I won’t be returning due to the very poor customer service here.

Horrible customer service right when we walked in and rude customers. We walked in and the younger lady told us about a 10 minute wait, that was fine considering it was cinco de mayo. After about 5 minutes my boyfriend and I were called to be seated. However, before the young lady could seat us a customer who was waiting yelled out that she came in before us and said it in such a rude way. My boyfriend being a gentlemen kindly told her she could go before us. Afterwards she commented that that we almost slammed into her in the parking lot, in which we didn’t. The young lady who was suppose to seat us said NOTHING, didn’t even apologize when she went to seat us the second time. I gave them 1 star because their nachos were decent. Never will I return because of the bad service.

Stopped by Pelayo’s for lunch today. Remember this place being mediocre from back in the day but several favorable Unilocal reviews and craving for spicy food brought me back. Located in the WalMart strip mall, Pelayo’s doesn’t look like much at all– inside or outside. The fake marble tile flooring is campy and the table we sat at was wobbly. They have self serve chips and salsa bar with 8 different salsas available, ranging from mild to super hot. The problem is that their hottest salsa is at best somewhat spicy in my book. Like most taquerias, you order at the counter and they bring out the food. They have different $ 6 lunch specials everyday so I went with that as it is not a bad deal for 1 item with beans and rice and a drink. The lunch special for Thursday was shredded beef flauta. It tasted like it was prepared in the morning and just warmed up. Nothing more then edible. I actually had to drench it in their«super hot» salsa to bring it to acceptable level of moisture. Refried beans had too much cheese but rice was fluffy and possibly the best part of the meal. The service was meeh too, no smiles or even greeting the customer in and out. Worth bringing up that it wasn’t too busy so you would expect at least basic customer service. At the end of the day, Pelayo’s wasn’t a horrible option for lunch but I was reminded why I haven’t been back for so long. Some of the best Mexican food I had was at shabby, run-down places that look even worse than Pelayo’s. With Pelayo’s the looks don’t fool… shoddy appearance, not much better food. To top if off the price of regular tacos is a ridiculous $ 2.80 a piece. Another visit not likely anytime soon.

We really use to enjoy this place until recently. Both my husband and daughter got food poisoning from eating the carne asada super burrito. Gross gross gross!

Ordered: Steak Chimichanga with a side of mexican rice First Impression: eeeehhhhh. looks a little dated in there… maybe because of the paint and the old tables and chairs? Likes: Salsa bar and chips complimentary. Dislikes: When placing the order, i specifically told the guys that i DIDNOT want beans in my chimichanga. When i received my order, there WAS plenty of beans in my chimichanga… when i asked to get a new one, both the guy who took my order and the lady making my dish looked at me like i was some crazy person for not wanting beans in my chimichanga…(that’s why i knocked off a star). After it was corrected, i thoroughly enjoyed my meal! so good… and even better as left overs at home! don’t know how anything else there is and the second time i came, i ordered the same thing! =)

Never going here again! Don’t get me wrong, I love Pelayos, just not this location. They messed up my order twice. I’m truly allergic to cheese, it makes me really sick and ruining my whole day. The first time I ordered it, my sister called and asked if she could bring me a vegetarian burrito home with no cheese or sour cream, and black beans. When she got home, I opened mine, and low and behold cheese and red sauce. I tried to take it off, but I just ended up with pile of mess, and grossness. So today, my sister wanted a burrito from them again. I was hesitant to give them a second chance. She said, she’d tell them no cheese, or sour cream, and green sauce, and it’ ll be good. She wasn’t the one picking it up this time, someone else was. When I got my burrito at noon. I got a pile of cheese and green sauce again. This is so pathetic, They can’t seem to follow simple instructions, and the person that picked up the order got a bad experience because they added more chips in the bag. My sister told her that she did it before, and they didn’t have a problem with it. However today, the women came over and had an attitude, and said we had to pay for more chips. Overall the experience, food, and customer appreciation is a waste of anyone’s time. BEWARE! I will only dedicate my time now to the Pelayos Restaurant, not the one stop wanna be place! If you get bad vibes, follow your gut, and walk away! Unsatisfied customer!

Nothing gets under my skin more than lack luster service. The girl working the register appears to be busy getting a soda for a customer when I walk in. She looks at me, says nothing. I say«hi», she still says nothing. I think, «hm, okay, concentrating? I’ve had days like that.» She brings the soda behind the register and pours herself a cup, and finally asks, «do you know what you want?» in a flat, uninterested monotone. I order to go for my family, and she swipes my card and hands me the signing receipt only. The price looks high for what I ordered, so I ask to see the itemized receipt. She hands it over, and then I remember, «oh yeah, pelayo’s is a little overpriced.» She takes the receipt back, and then seems to awkwardly remember that she needs to return my credit card, my receipt copy and… hm, what else… oh yeahhhh, the itemized receipt. whatever. So normally, I wouldn’t go to such lengths to document this type of service if it weren’t for the fact that as I was waiting for my meal, a guy(about her age) walks in. BEfore he even takes two steps in the establishment, I hear a very inviting voice welcome him and ask him«What would you like to order?». In fact, this voice is so dripping with sweetness and hospitality, I actually turn around to see if there is a different person at the register. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor, because it turns out that this girl had either a twin that was SUPER nice or had a split personality. I had NEVER seen such a HUGE attitude adjustment in such a short amount of time. It was truly something to marvel at. But then I was upset. What the heck?! I might not look like either dude starring in the Twilight series, but do you have to be that obvious? Is it that hard to muster a fake smile? IT just might get you a tip for take out! *Sigh I am sending my husband next time… with his shirt off… in the dead of winter. and the food he brings back had better be freaking amazing!

Was looking for a Mexican place on our way home from Sonoma, and we came upon this place in Unilocal. It was spectacular. There were two things that made it spectacular: Variety and customer service. Variety: Their menu was HUGE. On top of having a large selection, they had a lot of different choices when it came to meat, including a vegetarian and a fish choice. There was a lot to choose from, and it was easy for my picky wife to even find something. Along with that, they serve black beans!!! You could get refried beans, whole pinto, or whole black beans. A lot of authentic places don’t have that as an option, but they did. Kudos for that. They also had a TON of salsa choices. Again, get props for the amount of variety. Customer service: They were very accommodating to us, especially with kids. We initially got a kids meal for our daughter and two meals for us, and normally both my wife and I take stuff off of ours for our 1 year old since the burritos are so big. They brought out a small plate of rice and beans for our one year old. When our five year old wanted some«tomatoes» with hers, we went to the salsa bar to get Pico De Gallo. We found that the Pico there was actually a spicier one. The chef in the back saw me grabbing it for her, and he told me to hold on, she’s going to hate it! He came out a few minutes later with a mild one(no jalapenos in it), just for her. Overall, this place was very accommodating and had LOTS of choices all the way around. If we’re in Vacaville again, this will be a place we’ll be looking for, I’m sure!

The daughter and I were growling at each other on our way to Marin, so I figured it was time to get a bite to eat. Pelayo’s showed up on the Unilocal radar and I ordered to go. they recommended Carnitas and I was not to be disappointed. my burrito could sink a battleship There are free chips and a salsa bar for sitdown diners, the chips are white corn or wheat/corn(not my style) and very thin, not salty at all. salsas were fresh and very tasty, my favorite was the hot. Las comidas son Buenos!
