Carrie Wooten, Carrie Wooten, Carrie Wooten is all I have to say about the Vail Vitality Center. She is the best massage therapist I have ever been to and I don’t say that lightly. I discovered her last year on my trip to Vail and had to see her again this year. In fact, it was the only thing that I really wanted to do. Her touch is so incredibly healing and is so good at what she does that you don’t even have to tell her what’s wrong — she just finds the problem. She also cares about the quality of the massage that she gives and goes the extra mile to make sure you leave relaxed and feeling wonderful. In addition to Carrie, the spa is very nice, well kept, quiet and clean. All things you want when going to a spa and all things you expect when going to a spa in Vail. I will definitely come back again next year — already looking forward to it.

Vail Athletic Club is a nice, well equipped, higher end gym with a great location. The staff that I encountered were nice and helpful, the facility was very clean, and the equipment was high quality and in good condition. The climbing wall is a nice touch, even though I did not use it. The main workout room is on the small side, but is very functional. The big windows are a nice touch and make the whole place feel less cave-like! There are a few smaller rooms/studios off to the side and the upper floor that’s got a few elliptical machines(for those of you that want to SAY you went to the gym, but not actually workout. Not being mean, just truthful). Even living in Denver, I feel the extra 3000 feet of altitude when doing some harder cardio, and for some strange reason, I kind of like that. OK, hard not to notice the bad reviews on here. I’ve had a situation similar to Jeanne R.‘s regarding opt out fees and another gym and it COMPLETELY soured me to the place(Prairie Life Franklin, TN… I didn’t forget about you!), but my review is based on a number of single day experiences, so take that as you will. VAC is a great facility to get a good workout in whenever outdoor options aren’t on the agenda for whatever reason. I’ll be back.

I joined this club for several months while I was in Vail so I could try to stay fit prior to labral tear surgery and then as I recovered. It’s a nice little gym(although the steam and sauna were constantly on the fritz), and certainly fulfilled my requirements. What I didn’t agree with and find terribly unfair is that they allowed me to join mid-month(more than willing to pro-rate my membership when it was to their benefit). They allowed me to pay them to freeze my membership while I had the surgery and when I was unable to workout for several weeks(once again when they were benefiting). However, when we were ready to leave Vail after my recovery several months later, and I wanted to only pay for ½ the month they wouldn’t pro-rate that and insisted that I would have to pay the entire month(even though I gave them the notice required). When I questioned the policy Anne(one of the people who works at the front desk said«it’s tricky to do that» — not so tricky when it’s in their favor. Because they were unable to accommodate me by pro-rating my membership that last month I quit — not willing to waste ½ a months membership. They told me they would honor the $ 10.00/day pass if I wanted to workout in the next two weeks, but the one time I asked to do it I was told by Anne that they really didn’t do this, and they would do it as a favor this one time. I never went back. I’m sure Anne is not to blame, but rather a policy management has. I have to come back next year to go to the Steadman Clinic once again, but I won’t be joining this club unless they change their policy. WIth a transient, touristy city, and a gym attached to a hotel, it would be in their interest to encourage any type of membership(after all it isn’t as if they were giving it to me). Kerri at the front desk was very nice and helpful. So were the people who cleaned the club. Also, they failed to tell me that the gym was free with the condo I was renting. This cost me and my boyfriend about $ 500.00 over the time we were in Vail.

My morning at the Vitality Center spa at Vail Mountain Lodge may have been the highlight of my trip. No, wait, it’s totally the highlight of my trip. I scheduled a Moor Remedy treatment for my first full day in Vail. The spa and locker room areas are beautiful. The view from the solarium(where you’ll relax before your treatment) is gorgeous. I could’ve just sat there drinking hot tea and reading the magazines for an hour. The treatment itself was very relaxing and refreshing. Starting with exfoliating, then 20 minutes in a mud bath, and ending with an hour massage, it was a great morning. This isn’t the mud you’re thinking of, it’s not thick or gross. It’s Austrian mud that’s added to the water and isn’t thick or «muddy». In fact, you don’t even have to rinse it off. After the treatment, when I was all relaxed and pliable I had a delicious lunch while watching the snow fall outside. The lunch was part of a special(20% off and free lunch when you schedule 100 minutes of treatments before 11 am) and I was surprised it was included. I would’ve gladly paid the original price but 20% off and the best fish tacos in the world? Amazing! If you’re in Vail and you don’t go to the Spa at Vail Mountain Lodge you’re doing it wrong. Only drawback… a belly button full of top grade Austrian mud.

Excellent services & friendly staff. This spa was much better than the resort connected to it, which we stayed at and hated.
