Mavis Discount Tire

I went back after 3 yrs and they did the same thing, they tried to sell me all kinds of work i didnt need like a power steering flush and struts with their many scare tactis!!. I see they still have the cameras so their corporate office can watch and listen to make sure their mechanics are selling us the work we dont need so they can make their commission or not make any money.!! I
even heard one of their mechanics call it Slavis saying they were tired of being pushed to sell work or they make no money!!. Once again, dont believe the fake positive and happy reviews their staff puts on there to trick us into something they are not!!! MAVIS, DONT SEND ME A FAKE EMAIL LIKE YOU CARE SINCE YOU GOT CAUGHT TRYING TO SCAM SOMEONE AGAIN! One of your other many unhappy customers was right! Mavis should be investigated by dateline!!!

The staff at this location are very professional and what I feel is reassuring is that with my experiences they are honest and do whatever they can to give me the best deal. They are usually very busy so the earlier you get there the better (I suggest right at opening). The manager Chris always helps and his employees there are very knowledgeable on the products and services they provide.

Don’t even walk through those doors! They are lying thieves and they do not care one iota about customer loyalty!
I purchased tires from them less than a year ago and that went well. Suddenly, my car began to make loud noise that varied with the speed of the vehicle. I brought it back to Mavis, to rule out a problem with the tires.
Joe asked which tire I thought it was coming from and I said it is hard to tell, I thought it was the front passenger side, but I wasn’t sure. After a few minutes of checking the car on the lift, Joe told me «it was the wheel bearing making the noise and the reason you can’t tell which side it is on is because it is both front tires that need repair at $ 325 EACH». He then said, «You need your brakes done also because these are really bad and the rotors need to be replaced too».
Not trusting his face because he even looked shifty, I took it to an independent mechanic without telling him about my experience with Mavis and he said the brakes were still OK, but that the noise was coming from the front right tire because the bearing was bad. I asked about the left side and he said it was perfect.
As a tie breaker, I bought the car to Johnson’s Toyota and they, too said the right bearing was shot and we could do the brakes, but it wasn’t really «needed» at the moment. Johnson’s Toyota offered to do the work for about $ 1100.00!!!
We went to Auto Zone in Washingtonville and purchased the parts to fix the bearing and decided to do the brakes while the tire was off. It may have taken an hour or two longer to do it without the lift etc., but for $ 200 the car is as good as new.
I went back to Mavis yesterday and I told them that I could no longer use them because of their dishonesty and attempt to screw me out of my money for something they out and out lied about.
Joe said «uuuh, well, I just went by what my mechanics tell me». I told him «I call bullshit». I said he lied to me either because I am a woman or because he thought I was just stupid. I said I would have been stupid if I took his lying word for it and had them do the unnecessary work. I then told him that they were the stupid ones to not care about customer loyalty which would have resulted in repeated business from me and my family. Now, not only do they lose me as a customer, I am telling everyone not to trust them.

They did me right. Rather than sell me a new tire they plugged the nail hole (tire only had 8k miles on them) which was the right thing to do. Honesty goes a long way in the car repair business.

I originally called the Newburgh location looking for a Dueler tire. The owner said he didn’t have it in stock there and he would call his other store in Vails Gate. They had it and I was able to pick it up quickly and get my car back on the road. Courteous and quick.

This place needs to be investigated by Dateline. They have reduced themselves to using scare and intimidation tactics to make sales, and try to sell you services that you don’t need.
I’ve been a repeat customer at this shop since it first opened. Since my last negative review, I figured I’d give it one last chance. This shop has gone drastically downhill over the last few years.
I went in for a tire rotation and state inspection. When they first put my truck up on the lift, a second mechanic opened up my driver side door, turned on my headlights (without the engine running), and left it that way for over a half hour. I suspect they were trying to kill my battery so they could charge me for a new one. They called me into the bay for other problems, and once they did, my headlights had suddenly been turned off.
The mechanic told me I needed new brakes and rotors on all four wheels (I replaced them myself 15,000 miles ago). He told me I had no brakes left, they were metal-​to-​metal, and I had nothing left to stop my vehicle. I mentioned to the mechanic that I replaced them 15,000 miles ago. I pointed to the brake pads, which clearly have over 50% remaining. Then his story changed, claiming that the rotors have heat marks. After I declined, he told me he’d do me a «favor» and pass my brakes on the inspection.
Then, he told me that my shocks were completely worn out and needed to be replaced. I replaced them 40,000 miles ago. When he showed them to me, he said they were worn out from general use. When I explained that I replaced them last year, he said the shock springs were cracked all the way through. He showed me, but there were no cracks. I asked where they were, then his story changed again. He said the spring is detached and the shock is hanging. I was looking right at it and it was fine.
He told me if I do not replace them, he is failing my state inspection. He quoted me at $ 500 to replace my shocks and struts (my truck does not have both). I declined and he became very aggressive, telling me that I might as well get the work done right now because I’m saving money by doing so. I said no again, he became agitated, and said that he shouldn’t even let me drive my vehicle out of the shop because of the shocks. He failed my inspection.
The next day, I took my truck to a real mechanic. The mechanic assured me my shocks were in perfect shape. They said even if there was a problem, that is not grounds to fail me on a NYS Inspection unless they are leaking, and that Mavis was scamming me.
During a previous incident, they insisted that I needed an oil change, just a few weeks after I changed the oil myself.
I have also seen them scam so many unsuspecting customers. This place is shady and should be investigated for fraud.

Needed new tires and had an 8am appointment. Got there at 7:45am and people already waiting outside, but i did not worry because I had an appointment. Imagine my frustration when the same employee that set up the appointment tells me at 8:15am that it would be a few hours before my car could be ready! «there are other customers and I’m wating for another guy», he told me. Just to make sure, I asked him if it meant it would not be ready until noon and he said «yeah». I kept my cool and made a mental note to NEVER go there again. I’ll go to Walmart instead. At least I can walk around the store, get a bite, and stay entertained. AND i don’t need an appointment at Walmart.

I went here a few times, and it’s often a very long wait. I once called to get their price on their least expensive tires. I got 2 different answers from 2 different employees. I also brought my car for an alignment. My car was definitely not aligned after. I brought it back (about a 2 hour wait each time), and they gave me another one for free when they saw it was not aligned. It felt somewhat ok, but then I could tell it was pulling. I finally gave up and paid for ANOTHER alignment at my dealership. That one was done correctly. I’ll never go back to Mavis.

The owners are very helpful and honest. I have done inspections, brake and tire work and they are very willing to make a deal to get your business.
I have always left my car there, so I can’t speak about waiting times, but if its a Saturday and you bring in your car expect to wait… not sure that’s their fault.
All in all, I would recommend them for honest, reliable car work.

I got an Alignment and oil change done. I was in and out in about 45 min. To an hour. Overall experience was well and I will return if my car so requires me.

These guys are always honest with me. Quality service, cheap tire (especially if you wait for a sale), free balancing, free air, fast service!
Have purchased tires here several times, had alignment work, brake work, and inspections. They work with you!
Like Eric says, Not all Mavis locations are created equal. The managers here make this place aces!

Not all Mavis locations are created equal. I’ve been to other locations that turned into a hellish nightmare yet despite that I walked into another location. This location was a good experience.
Went in for a wheel alignment after some mechanic work on my car and they were prompt in taking me in to service my vehicle. Wait wasn’t unbearable and the price was comparable to others.
