John D Kaufman, MD

Firstly, let me say that 17 years prior to my most recent experience, my daughter broke her arm and was treated well at Dr. Kaufman’s office. Secondly, I am a pianist by trade and I am very reliant upon my hands for my living. I began having pain in my hands and wrists which prompted me to call Dr. Kaufman as he took such great care of my daughter.
I do not carry traditional health care and I am a «cash» patient. I called the office to let them know that I needed their CASH rate and the office manager agreed to a price for my visit. After seeing Dr. Kaufman, he referred me to an imaging office on Lyons Avenue who took an MRI of my wrist and they sent me on with my MRI images and their lengthy findings, written in medical terms that I barely could understand. Dr. Kaufman called me shortly thereafter and basically read me the exact same verbiage that was on my written diagnosis. I asked him to explain further, in plain terms and he kept reading the same narrative that I had on my page. He then referred me to another doctor who shares his office for further diagnosis. I called this other doctor and they refused to negotiate a CASH rate for my visit.
I am very disappointed in the way I was treated by this office, firstly in that they charged me FULL non-​negotiated rate even after I had pre-​negotiated a cash price. Secondly, Dr. Kaufman seems to be in the business of referring specialists without even discussing my diagnosis with me in «patient» terms. His office partner told me my cash visit would be nearly $ 300.00, just to get him to explain my MRI to me.
I immediately called the Kerlan-​Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Beverly Hills and negotiated a cash rate of $ 119.00 for a REAL diagnosis and I am on the path to a REAL recovery.
If you need someone to set your arm if you simply break it, Dr. Kaufman and his staff are fine. If you have more issues than that and want to feel comfortable knowing what the hell is going on, RUN!
