Mr. Handrail

I can’t stop looking at my great new handrail! I contacted Mr. Handrail, Jack, a couple months ago I think to have a handrail installed before a friend of mine arrives for a long stay. Jack brought it in on time, even though I’m at some distance from him. Jack and I were talking past each other at first because he referred me to his Gallery of photos and I somehow got into his Picasa photos. Luckily, we figured out where I was going wrong. (My bad!) Jack’s crew of two (Nick and Weston) are youngish (by comparison to me, anyway), but as soon as I saw them upon their timely arrival (Jack having called me to let me know they were coming and they also called me when they got started on their way), I knew everything would be okay. The lead fellow, Nick, really knew his stuff and was extremely patient with me. We had some last-​minute decisions to make and I have almost no eye for design. When they arrived, I called a girlfriend and asked her to come over to help me. Nick went over our choices again once my friend was there to weigh in. Once they got to work, they were all business. They were tidy and detail oriented. I’ve waited a long time for the right handrail and looked for a good company to give me the handrail of my dreams. I’m so glad I found Mr. Handrail. My landlord had handrails installed on the inside and outside of the house that we rent from him. He chose Mr. Handrail, who has done work on several other houses in our neighborhood. Mr. Handrail was courteous and patient in facilitating communication between me and my landlord about the work. And his employee, Paul P. did the work and we couldn’t be more pleased. He was considerate and reliable (calling ahead to let us know he would be a little late) and did beautiful work. We love our new handrails!

The owner, Jack, is very helpful, easy to work with, and built some beautiful railings for a new balcony, deck and stairs. His price was also very reasonable. I would give him 5 stars, except for the job his installers did. The railing had to be welded in place since it could not have been transported assembled. The installers did not take the time to use welding blankets to protect our new (about $ 8000) redwood deck and stairs when they welded everything together. This meant there were hundreds of burn marks from the hot slag hitting the wood. The installers would have been able to both see and smell this, and since it was a windy day, it is fortunate they did not start a fire. To Jack’s credit, he did try to make this right, even offering to replace the damaged wood.
Jack was great, and I would use him again, but I would be sure to stay home and supervise his installation crew.

I can only add our voices to the positive chorus. Jack was great: he came out to our house, looked at a drawing we had of our front steps and offered us a price that was LESS THAN HALF of our other bids! Paul came out and installed a lovely handrail, gracefully curved and sturdy in just one day (much earlier than promised). When I was not satisfied with a few details (I’m fussy about how stuff looks), he appeared the following business day and made it perfect! These guys are terrific! I highly recommend them. They are real pros and great craftsmen.

From our first email, through a dozen emails, to day the hand railings were installed, Jack was a pleasure to communicate with and always kept us abreast of his schedule. It’s very difficult to find anyone who will install metal handrails on outdoor stairs, but I finally was referred to Jack — Mr. Handrail — and I’m glad I was. He is very busy, but got out to look at my place pretty quickly. He’s very personable, very knowledgeable and extremely easy to work with.

HIs crew came as planned and did a great job. Now my in-​laws and others who have trouble climbing stairs have a great new handrail to use as they walk up the stairs to our house.

My parents have a one story home and needed handrails. Mom didn’t want any type of institutional rails so I contacted Jack on-​line. They delivered as promised and their work is beautiful! My mother is actually surprised she uses the rails!
We paid a bit extra as we live on the Peninsula. It was worth it for us.

Yup, the name says it all– they made and installed beautiful, sturdy handrails that enhance our front porch and deck in the back. Very nice owner and workers, they cleaned up after themselves and did what they said they would. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

Jack, Mr Handrail, and his assistant, Paul, just installed a hand rail on my property. They listened to my requests and suggestions, and were flexible when designing the rail according to my specifications. The rail is both useful and attractive. I chose a copper spray paint which blends beautifully with my brick steps. I would recommend you to install lights on the side wall before having Jack do his work. The combination of lights with rail has greatly enhanced our entry and has made the stairway 100% safer to climb. My only complaint about Jack is that he didn’t answer all my question via email. I guess he is too busy for that, but as far as scheduling me for the job, he was speedy. It is more than an Installation. They literally crafted a rail, blow torch and all. I would recommend Mr HandRail to anyone who wants quality work.
