bought a specialty stapler and staples today… had to go right back, Wrong staples. even guy who sold it to me saw me walk in on his way out and said«wrong ones huh?» Asked gal who helped me get the Right Ones, «why didn’t he tell me that the New stapler/Staples don’t go togeather? she said „maybe he didn’t know?“ I said…“but aren’t you folks trained to know what is in Your inventory and what goes with what?» she didn’t reply and seemed very frustrated with me… like almost All the folks that work there. Not a single person that I have met working there over the years seem to like working there. They seemed annoyed when a customer comes in to disrupt their days with something like Work! At least the Yard guys in the back that help load your truck(the hardest working folks at this place) are decent. If this wasn’t the closet HarldyWare store to my house for little stuff. i would NEVER come back. I wish O.S.H. Would move into Old WalMart store across from Meadows/hwy 29 and Shut this Acesoftware store down!

I have worked with the people at O’Connor lumber for many years. They are knowledgeable about what they sell and if they don’t have something, they will get it for you. They have very competitive pricing as well. They are a small family owned business and make you feel right at home.

Never a good experience here. First trip: My husband and I brought a list of tools to buy and ask for some help with 6 or 7 items we couldn’t find. Of those, with an attitude, he was able to find 1 and had no idea what the others were(even after describing them.) The guy was obviously lacking with his customer service skills, we seemed like a burden taking his time away from standing behind the counter and chatting. We dropped the items we were able to find, not too many, and left. Second trip: I really did not want to return but my husband heard from a co-worker they carried a shoe protectant we were in need of. I walked in and searched for a little while on my own and then asked for help. I was told they didn’t carry it flat out. Same attitude. Different employee. I described what I was looking for and with this annoyed stare, he takes off to an aisle to his left. He says, «this is all we carry,» and points to an aerosol can of waterproof shoe protectant. Not what I was looking for but closer at least. I turn around to thank him and he’s already halfway down the aisle, never to be seen again during my trip. I did end up finding the ‘shoe goo’ I was looking for about ten feet away from the aerosol can. Next time I’ll try the Ace in Concord on my way home from work, hopefully a better experience.

Knowledgeable and friendly — several of their staff members are young women, which I appreciate — it makes it easier for me to ask the right questions. I go there first for all my hardware and generic lumber needs.

As «Steve M.» wrote, know what you want before you walk in. They are usually very busy with the phone. Make sure the lumberyard workers give you the correct materials. Otherwise, they are average.

I have been a loyal Ace Hardware customer for many many years and have spent many thousands of dollars to that corporation during that time. I do understand that each is individually owned and operated. My husband and I are Rv’ers and bought some plumbing chemicals at an Ace Hardware and hundreds of miles later, realiZed that what we bought were chemicals for a house and not an RV, and that using those chemicals in our RV plumbing system would destroy it. We went to this Ace Hardware store in Vallejo with the products unopened and receipt in hard to return it and we’re flatly told in a kind of ‘suck it’ attitude that we had to return the product to the exact Ace Hardware site hundreds of miles away. Now, we had about $ 300. worth of hardware we needed to buy and were ready to buy at that Ace Hardware but after this customer service, I shared my opinion regarding this brilliant marketing strategy and promptly went to Home Depot where you can return anything anywhere and anytime. Not only did Ace Hardware look a good sale that day, but they also lost a loyal customer. One of the earlier reviews for this store stated it was nice because there were not the ‘hordes’ that are at the competitors, like Home Depot and Lowes. Now, I bet a dollar that review was written by the manager or his secretary. I personally have never experienced ‘hordes’ at those other stores, only satisfactory service. It was telling that we were at the store around 5:30pm during a weekday, a typically busy time for DIY stores as people stop there on their way home from work, but when we went there the store was completely empty except for the three bored employees up front with nothing to do. Keep it up Ace Hardware and you’ll soon go the way of the Dinosaur and Beta tapes.

OConnor is the best lumber yard in town. There is always someone there to help you – you don’t have to search around for help. There is a really great selection of things, easy parking, and a lot of knowledgable staff. They also have a TON of lumber.

Ace is great because you don’t have to deal with the hoardes of people at Home Depot or go hunting down endless aisleways trying to find things on your shopping list. Sure, you have to pay a little more than the big box stores, but you get a much less stressful buying experience. And the employees are much more willing and available to help you find what you need!!!
