Where do I start… I truly love the energy and professionalism of this barbershop. Sam is amazing. I am very indecisive when it comes to my hair. I was very pleases with my sleek, sassy cut. He was very patient with me and took his time to meet my needs. I also loved the fact he had personality. It’s not often that you are able to come inside a men dominating barbershop and feel comfortable. I’m a satisfied customer and will be returning soon.

I needed a haircut and I needed it quickly. I picked up my daughter from school and walked into a Supercuts, but the wait and the $ 17 cost for a haircut made me leave. I remembered there was a spot near my home that looked like a barbershop-type place, so I stopped there with my daughter to get my haircut. Whip It Up!!! I walked in and it was like the barbershop scenes from Coming to America… a few 30 – 40 year old guys, 1 older guy, and couple of younger guys all telling stories and taking jabs at each other… in very animated fashion… old school barbershop. I appreciated that they noticed that I had a 5 ½ year old girl with me, and back and forth banter was generally without swearing. I sat down and was in a chair in about 10 minutes. I sat in Brandon’s chair and he was very nice and made sure to try to understand the cut I wanted… flat top, #1 on the side. Being Mexican/Caucasian, my hair is straight… not to mention the 2 terrible«cowlicks» on my front hairline… and I could tell that this barbershop catered to a mostly black clientele. Brandon seemed confident that he knew what I was looking for and started clipping me up. I noticed after a few minutes that none of the barbers used scissors, which sort of seemed strange to me. They all used only clippers, but I could tell they did very good work. Brandon was very thorough and even though he didn’t really get the idea of how flat I wanted the top to be, he made a concerted effort and the cut, or clip, I received, was top notch. I would definitely go back to see Brandon. Next time maybe I’ll take a picture of a flattop for him to go by. It was a very entertaining experience and 2 bucks cheaper than Supercuts.

Open Tuesday– Saturday. All the barbers there can really cut. Tapers, fades, everything. You may hear some interesting convos too.

Thank you whip it up barbershop but I’m also mad at cha. Ok, so unfortunately(but my fortunately) my bf had to retire the locs(thx u jesus) and get a clean cut after«shaking them dreads» for about 4yrs too long in my mind. He Unilocaled this place going off the one Unilocaler review and got his hair whipped, I mean clipped. Locs no more and unfortunately my bf did not get the barber’s name maybe because my bf was probably upset he had to let go of his«shake dem dreads» to take on a job promotion which is a greatly compensated mgmt position but requires(«a more business type look), but nevertheless my bf was totally happy and excited about his fade new look(or maybe I was the one happy n excited, u think?) J/k he loved it and was surprise the hair cut was cheap and quick. he’s had bad experiences before with other barbershops which left a bad taste but that bad taste has now turned into a good taste. only time will tell though but so far so good. Now for why I’m mad at this barbershop… ok, so my bf had alot of hair(locs) so I was thinking, he’s probably going to be there for a minute to get his hair cut, faded then lined up. so I was like cool, I have time to go get a couple of back-to-work outfits since I was on a vacation for 2wks and didn’t want to go back looking „crunchy“ LOL. So as soon as my bf left the house, I jumped up, wash the dishes, threw the clothes in the washer and jumped in that shower. No sooner than about 30mins I heard a door open. I was like WTF!!! My bf was back home that quick… I was still drying off too.lol. I thought I had enough time to get the clothes and then hide them in the closet like they were old clothes I had already had just so I didn’t have to entertain the questioning by my bf like» what did you buy” or” how much did that cost?”(I know im not the only one that does this am I?) Anyway, so I wasn’t able to hit the store so thank you very much Whip It Up. u were too quick on my man’s hair… lol!!!

Sam and Donnie have been cutting hair, fading ‘fros and hooking up the folks of Vallejo for a long time and their experience and professionalism shows each and every time you walk in the shop. As a woman with sons it’s not always easy to walk into a barber shop full of men. The«man talk» can be nerve racking and uncomfortable but Sam and Donnie make it a point to make sure all their male clientele’ recognize and respect that a woman is present and to tone it down. The shop is clean and spacious and all the barbers are trained in the latest styles and cuts. My sons always get out of the chair looking fine and ready for any photo shoot.
