Been here 3 or 4 times, the first time was the only time I bought anything & they had some cute things. After getting a few of the items home found the statue we purchased was damaged and dresser was uneven. They display items with flaws/damaged in such a way that you can’t really tell. Kind of deceptive & it’s hard to get a good look because it’s close quarters and lots of people. The owner was not friendly or nice in the least. In my opinion she acted like we were lucky that we got to shop their barn events. No thanks, I won’t be back.

I love attending the antique events one weekend out of every month. I have a good purchase track record here finding something that catches my eye almost every time: 1) The first time I went to one of Matilda’s events I bought a Goblin statue. I have two mini ones from Paris, France, and this medium-sized guy went perfectly with them. 2) 3-piece green leather travel suitcases, normally priced at $ 99 new. There is damage on the metal part outlining the opening of the biggest suitcase, but at $ 10 for the set, I couldn’t pass up the deal! 3) Another time I saw a garden glass-blown globe. It was quirky and beautifully made that I had to have it in my garden at home. 4) I was searching for a birthday gift for my mom. The instant I walked into the barn house area I saw a reflective silver plate holding miniature perfume bottles. My mom loves perfumes. She really liked the bottle and smell. 5) I was in the market for another birthday gift. These saki shot glasses caught my eye. They were rose-red dyed. There was four for $ 12, so I kept two for myself and two for my friend’s birthday. You never know what you’re going to find. That’s the adventure in antique shopping. If you have never tried it, Matlida’s Antiques is a good place to start!

I love Matilda’s Mouse. I look forward to shopping there because they work really hard on changing everything up and decorate with a whole new theme each month. If you are looking for a big piece of furniture for your home or just a unique find for yourself or a gift, you’ll find it there!

Matilda’s Mouse Antiques practices«Bait and Switch» tactics. Be sure to check your items again before they wrap them to make sure they haven’t removed parts or pieces from your items while«keeping them for you» behind the counter. They display things to look appealing but then strip them when you’re not looking and quickly wrap them. You could get home with just a portion of what you thought you were paying for and there are«No Returns». I speak from experience. Buyer Beware!

I can’t say enough nice things about Matilda’s Mouse in Valley Center. It is definitely a drive from San Diego, but a lovely drive through the mountains north of San Diego. They are open for only 3 days each month. They are located inside a beautiful, big, old barn on the Betty Crocker Estate. The staging for all of their vintage and antique items is so beautiful. Each month there is a theme… Valentine’s, English Gardens, Americana, etc. Their prices are excellent! I highly recommend it as a fun girl’s day out!
