The place is cute, delicious ice cream. Are you kidding me with the rude skinny teenager bus boy though!?! They close at 11pm. At 10:40pm, the ahole comes up to my friend and I and super rudely goes uh you guys gotta go, i have to mop up now. Also took away our waters that we were still drinking. Talk about customer service. I also killed some kind of bug climbing on the wall with their mustard bottle. Really annoyed.

Place seems really rundown. Took them a while to make my burger. Old greasy man making it right by the cashier didn’t look sanitary at all. Their specialty drinks are a joke. Overpriced as well. Won’t be coming back.

Such a nice cute place. Its like you are back in the 50’s. I love eating here. Great and friendly service. prices are good, the ice cream is what they are known for, but i actually prefer Mitchell’s ice cream up the block. In any case, the place is still nice if you want some comfort food around good people.

based just on the mint chocolate chip was simply amazing. I love the old feel to the place. I haven’t tried anything else so I can’t speak for it.

I have lived in Valley Stream for over forty years and this place is a landmark. Not fancy inside and could use a face lift but the ice cream is the best. Try the homemade chocolate candy they have by the cash register. Good place for lunch. Burgers and sandwiches are good. Take out ice cream is an option by the pint, quart or gallon.

This was my first time. I had the crispy chicken wrap w/fries. It was meh. There was very little chicken, no tomatoes or cheese. Fries tasted like oil. It had too much ranch dressing. My hubby’s salad w/grilled chicken was ok. I would suggest using fresh breaded chicken breast strips(never frozen) and stop using bag salad. The ice cream was so good!!! I will come with friends and do the«sock it to me sundae»! Also, they have homemade chocolates and tons of candy.

Paradise Regained! Itgen’s blends together a nostalgic ambiance with decadent dessert options. Some people complain that the décor isn’t modern, but consider the ruin that some contraptions of modernity have spawned. Itgen’s is redolent of a simpler time. Walking in there just makes me feel safe and calls to mind memories of relatives who are now gone. The ice cream selections are, by far, the best on Long Island. I would strongly suggest ordering a dish that comes with hot fudge and whipped cream. If you don’t, you’re missing out on the full experience! Itgen’s has always had tasty soups too, especially the split pea, which has tasted exactly the same for as long as I can remember. That’s what I love about Itgen’s: You can count on it.

Worst food and service I ever received in my life as soon as you walk in you are immediately hit with an old stale smell like an old mildew basement the waitress greeted us with an attitude the food looked and tasted like vomit just an all around horrible dining experience

Very Delicious ice cream, service was a little slow but clearly they were understaffed so forgivable. Loved the original décor and complete soda fountain!!! In addition to ice cream they have a food menu available. I think I know where friendly’s got their establishment ideas from!!! If your in the area and want some yummy homemade ice cream go here.

Here’s the thing about this place… It’s old and vintage which means that people are either going to love it or hate it. Me? I fall into the love it category. This establishment has been around for more than half a century. The décor is reminiscent of a location your grandparents probably went on a date to. True, some parts desperately need some remodeling, but its a nice cozy atmosphere. The food is comfort food. If you want healthier options, go ahead and find somewhere else. But there are items here that are to die for. The waffle is a very underrated piece of deliciousness. Flaky, crispy, light, and sweet, it goes best with their sausage patties and good olé maple syrup. One of the best items on the menu is their corned beef that is usually made on Thursdays, where their Reubens are the best you will ever have. I also love this place because of the drinks. They make old fashioned sodas where the flavors are mixed together. Try the Cooling Gorilla for the hell of it. They use U-Bet Chocolate Syrup which makes some of the best milkshakes, chocolate milk, and egg creams! The other important part is their own ice cream and especially their homemade hot fudge, which is why my mom gets hot fudge sundays every time we go. The prices are also dirt cheap. Itgens is an icon.

I called to place an order, and The response was«It takes 2 effin seconds to make it, just come by and order it here» only to find out it was the owner that answered the phone. Not a way to treat a first time customer.

This place is great, especially for breakfast. It’s dated but in the best way possible. Love it’s authentic vibe and old school diner food.

Oh how I love Walt Itgens! I saw this restaurant featured on Restaurant Hunter, and immediately bookmarked this Ice Cream Parlour. I was so happy that I finally got a chance to check this place out because it is SOAWESOME! Imagine walking into an old school restaurant with LOADSOFCANDY. That was my experience today. I saw giant chocolate bunnies for Easter and rock candy! I haven’t seen rock candy in a while and I was super excited to see that they had 5 different colors. I wanted to buy them all, but I only bought two lol. What attracts me to this Ice Cream Parlour is that they make their ice cream, fudge and whip cream from SCRATCH! I ordered the Smores Sundae which was loaded with whip cream, hot fudge, melted marshmallows and vanilla chip ice cream. All I can say Unilocalers is GOODGOOGLYMOOGLY!!! When I tell you that sundae was absolute perfection… I honestly mean that. Their sundaes are a decent size so unless you eat huge portions, I recommend ordering one to share between two people. Walt Itgens also has a food menu and the prices were very affordable! I ordered a cheeseburger with an onion ring on top and I will say that it tasted amazing. It was the best cheeseburger that I have ever had on Long Island! It was extremely tasty and had the perfect amount of cheese on a toasted bun. I really wish this place was open 24⁄7 because my experience was that great, but I will be back without a doubt! You must try out Walt Itgens ASAP lol.

This place has the best food! I hope they read the reviews. The decode is horrible, old and funky! They need to renovate or at least paint the place. This place could be so much better but it’s not the cleanest or nicest place. It’s such a shame because the the food and homemade ice cream is superior.

A walk back in time – the original owner Mr Itgen is there with his wife over-seeing the establishment. Very reasonable prices, delicious food, and homemade chocolates. So few places like this are still around — A must visit!!!

My wife gave this place three stars based on some nostalgia from her child hood. Her family seems to really like the ice cream cakes. I have tried the ice cream cakes and I don’t like them at all. The ice cream isn’t creamy at all, it just isn’t nearly as rich as it should be. If you want a good ice cream cake go to Five Penny’s Creamery in Rockville Centre, they are so much better. Honestly, the restaurant just seems dirty and unappealing. If they took the time to clean this place from top to bottom, maybe it would be a nice place? I won’t eat here anymore.

I have been going to Itgen’s ever since I was a little kid and it seems to have been going downhill ever since. This place holds a lot of memories for me since it is where my grandfather used to take me all the time before he passed away. But it seems the years has not been good to it. It is old and dark. It could really do with a little more light and happiness. I personally have never tried the candy cause I feel like I just never trusted it to begin with. I used to always get waffles with ice cream on top which back in the day was a grand slam in my book. I went back their recently with my girlfriend and the ice cream is still pretty good but the atmosphere has become really choking. I didn’t feel the love and warmth it used to have. I really want to go back to try some real food, just so I can have my own opinion on how it’s changed. I did smell some delicious French fries when I went there last. Maybe it is time for some new ownership and a makeover to make this place the gem it used to be.

So this is the deal. This place sucks donkey balls. Tonight was the second and last time we attempted to go to this outdated pit. The first time I was turned away from here, it was kind of close to closing time. OK, even though we were just looking to get some ice cream, I can understand that. But tonight we got there a full half hour before the stated closing time and were turned away from the owner anyway. The reason we got? «It’s been slow and he wants to go home.» He also lied to our face when he stated the closing time was 10:30 even though it was listed on his Facebook page as 11:00. So because the guy was tired(probably from working without any air conditioning all day), he wouldn’t respect his own stated hours and serve us some stinking ice cream, which would have been consumed fairly quickly anyway. No, he’d rather alienate(former) repeat customers and be a lazy ass. I try to go to familly-owned businesses, but I am reminded why they go under so often when nonsense like this happens. So dear readers, my recommendation is to NEVER go ANYTIME after dinner hours, because you will never know if this guy will close the door in your face. It’s obvious that he doesn’t like evening customers, so let’s make it easy for him — nobody go in the evening so he can close up nice and early. Money is obviously not that important to him, so why give him any? It’s obvious that this place is on it’s last legs. Let’s help to put it out of it’s misery.

This place is awesome. old school ice cream parlor, it almost feels like you walked into the candy shop in the willy Wonka Movie where Charlie buys the Wonka bar. I found this treasure through my Unilocal app, I was in the area and was in the mood for ice cream. The shop serves all types of ice cream flavors, old school sundaes, banana splits, they even have unique Chocolates and candies. The shop also sells classic diner food items like sandwiches and fries, milk shakes etc., but their main attraction is their ice cream and Candies. I ordered a Banana Split to go, the employee there made a small crappie and sad looking banana split, it did not look like their pictures on Unilocal.I was a tad disappointed. This Ice cream Parlor is unique and cool to check out if you are ever in the area, but I am not sure about their consistency. I probably will give them a second try.

Visit Date: July 27, 2013 So I was really excited to come here and I was unfortunately disappointed. A couple of years ago one of my co-workers told me this was definitely a good place to go to but I think they changed ownership. When I walked in as expected from prior reviewers I felt like I walked into a time warp.(Rocky Horror Picture Show’s time warp was playing in my mind). The furniture is old and very dated, so are their posters and it’s not dated in the vintage cute chic way it’s dated as in need of serious redecoration. I heard they were dirty and I read I should also avoid the bathroom luckily I didn’t have to pee so I can’t comment on the bathroom or validate the dirtiness of it. Besides everything being dated I really didn’t notice anything overly dirty and I did see the staff cleaning. I also read I shouldn’t eat here but I had dinner anyway because my friend was getting dinner with her kids. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with Mozzarella and American cheese on wheat bread. It was nothing special, it wasn’t awful but I wouldn’t want to eat it again. My friend got a burger for herself and fries, her kid got a hot dog. The fries were crinkly cut straight from some frozen package, I didn’t eat them they wouldn’t be worth eating IMO. My friend asked me what I thought and I told her it was good but if she reads this review she’s going to find out what I really think. I just didn’t have a heart to tell her because she likes this place and I didn’t want to be rude to her. For ice cream I had the chocolate peanut butter cup sundae and I also took home a homemade chocolate peanut butter cup. My sundae cup was totally dated but the sundae itself wasn’t bad. I’ve had better chocolate peanut butter cup sundaes but it was a decent ratio of chocolate and peanut butter. I also ate a better homemade peanut butter cup. Itgen’s peanut butter cup was better than your average reese’s but definitely not as good as Kilwin’s in Babylon. So I might come back here for ice cream in the future but I’d avoid the food from here at all costs. Also I’d urge the owner’s to redecorate if they can. If I come back in the future and there are changes here I’ll definitely update my review to reflect them.
