Aj’s Bikes and Boards

This is my second time visiting this place with my daughters bike. I absolutely love how they take the time to explain what exactly is happening. The staff there are very friendly & patient. Definitely a return customer.

So, let me start by saying I didn’t buy a bike from AJ’s; however, this review is still about their phenomenal customer service and knowledge.
I had never been to a bike store before. I am a short, overweight mom that’s never had any interest in becoming a Tour De Force. I thought they would laugh me right out of the store — or worse, totally ignore me or act snootily condescending. But, I needed a bike that fit my frame and was easy to use so that I could ride with my daughter to school and around the neighborhood.
When I walked in, I was quickly greeted by Josh. Josh is dope. Josh made no gestures or looks or comments about this old fat lady in a bike shop. Instead, he graciously walked me through all my choices and explained all the details in layman’s terms. Then, he let me ride the bikes all around the parking lot, showing me how to use the features and making sure I was comfortable. The only thing I couldn’t stomach was the price of the bike (which I had reviewed and knew was consistent with the typical retail cost.)
Josh was even cool enough to let me come back with my husband and daughter to try out bikes. He spent a good 30 min trying to find the right bike for my kid before he gave us an honest opinion that he thought we should hold off on one.
I just happened to find the exact bike on Craigslist that evening or I would’ve went back the next day and purchased one at the store. I felt that comfortable dropping $ 500+ after our time together. In fact, I know I will never shop anywhere else before consulting with AJ’s. Their customer service was some of the best I’ve ever experienced — in any store.
Do yourself a favor and go visit this shop for all your bike needs. You will not regret it.

My kid’s bikes all came from here from their first to the most recent, 15 years of purchases. I also recently purchased a bike for myself, got a great price and great service. The mechanics are always helpful, especially with dummies like me, will continue to shop here, these guys know their stuff.

This place is between meh and okay. Words to the wise:
— This place is quite pricey compared to other places I’ve rented from. Note that they do not honor military discounts on their bike rentals, only on bike parts and accessories.
— If you want to have a full 24-​hr rental as advertised on the website, make sure to come in the DAY BEFORE to pick up your rental. We came in at noon and were advised that we needed to return our 24-​hr rentals 5 hours later. It doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out that 5 does not equal 24! As a last minute comment, we were told that we could bring the rentals back the next day at noon (if we could not get there by 5 the same day). I would have much preferred that they told us this from the beginning when we initially reserved the bikes over the phone.
— They forgot to give us our helmets. Luckily, I remembered that we needed them as we were on our way out.
I can’t say I felt welcomed here. If I were to rent here again, I’d make sure to visit the day prior and get my money’s worth!

Unprofessional. Unorganized. They will make you feel dumb if you don’t know much about bikes. Very rude and pushy. Overpriced.

Great store! Mountain bikes, road bikes and more. Had a bent rim while riding balm boyette trail. Walked in store by recommendation to be surprised at the grand selection and friendly knowledgeable staff. My rim was unfixable. They respoked a new rim for me in less then an hour.

Ok né venue and genre fo me. I am looking for a bike to ride to work. Stumbled into a shop last weekend and was there 2 mins. Was greeted and asked if I needed help. I said yes. the guy turned back to his game of candy crush on the computer. We left.
Spend the afternoon walking in a county park and pulled in here. I am looking to get back into biking. As soon as we walked in the bikes were overwhelming. A great selection. Was greeted by a sweet voice «can I help you» I said yes and a sweet knowledgeable lady named Erica appears.
I explain what my situation is. She makes a recommendation. Grabs a bike and says follow me. Next thing I know I am riding this bike. It was nice but a big for me. She says be right back. Brings out another. I am riding the strangest bike I have ever rode. But wow. Now I am in still in the research phase but Erica was amazing. Answering all my questions telling me stories from other customers. And best of all… no pressure. She truly cares that I get the correct bike for me. And it is not easy to put a 52 yr. old man on a bike.
I saw nothing but smiles in the place and it was busy. They had an off-​site demonstration that day. Thus I was lucky enough to meet the fantastic Erica. She works Monday thru Thursday. But apparently all are great and they do not work on commission.
I am still looking but made a major move forward in my journey.

Great, great shop located near the Alafia trails. I rented a bike here, and the staff was easy going and professional. Super knowledgeable too. Definitely the place to rent for riding the local trails!

I’ve bought 3 – 4 bikes from AJ’s. I’ve also had all of them, and more serviced and repaired here. These guys know bikes and cycling! They are very knowledgeable ‘bike guys’. They’ve NEVER tried to sell me on anything I didn’t need or wasn’t interested in. I’ve moved down South about an hour and still go out of my way to give them my business.
They rent bikes as well so you can hit up some of the best riding in the Southeast. Full shop and full service, if you need it give AJ’s a spin!

I’ve been going to AJ’s to rent mountain bikes for the past 5 years. Each year I do a trip to the Tampa area to see family and like to take advantage of the great riding at Alafia and Boyette. AJ’s has always has great selection of high demo mountain bikes available at a reasonable price and in good working order. They’ll take time with you to get the suspension set up to your weight and install yours or their pedals and any other items you might need. They also have a well stocked shop should you need an accessory. They carry high quality parts by serious MTB companies. This is not some fair weather mountain bike team at AJ’s. They live near and ride some of the best trails in the state. More important the team there is friendly and helpful whether it is regarding the bike or trail information. This year I had some minor mechanical issues with the rental bike and took it to another shop as I was traveling to Santos with the bike. I explained the situation to AJ’s upon return and they credited me the amount of the repair on my rental as it was not something that I had caused. This is great customer service and they have once again exceeded my expectations as being a great bike shop. If you are need of a serious bike shop in the Tampa, St Pete and Lakeland area pay AJ’s a visit.

I came here to buy my spin shoes a few years back. The guys working here were very knowledgable of their products and so helpful for what kind of shoe I needed. They adjust your clips and tighten them up whenever you need them too also.
They have everything you could possibly need for your ride. From bikes all the way to personal tools and wear. I mean EVERYTHING! I have a friend that brings his bike to this place all the way from New Port Richie for maintenance. Thats a hike all the way out here. So that by itself says a lot about this place!!!
I needed new wheels for my inline skates, and the guy was nice enough to point me in the right direction even though they don’t carry them at their store. I really like their customer service! Its always been top notch! That’s always a BIG plus for any shop.
The best part is that they also give military discounts here. I always love supporting a local business that returns the favor by supporting the troops! Way to go guys and thanks!
