Best sushi in town. Really good service. Sushi is made fresh and the staff is extremely professional and friendly. Very quaint.

Everything was delicious and fresh; definitely our new sushi place whenever we’re even remotely close to brandon! We had the love boat and it came with the special for the night which was flounder. But it wasn’t just any old flounder, oh no! It was flounder with a small leaf of cilantro and a drop of sirracha, bathed in lime juice — AMAZING! Totally would have ordered more of we hadn’t been so full!

This is the best sushi in the Brandon area. Not only is it great food but exceptional service. Always friendly, always quick, you never have to ask for a refill. These people rock! It’s a small restaurant but the prices are reasonable for outstanding sushi. Their lunch specials are awesome! I’ve been back about 5 or 6 times and it is ALWAYS good. Keep up the good work guys!

What a find! Thanks to Unilocal,I think my family has found a new home for sushi. We came in for Mother’s Day and tried the following items: Edemame Shrimp shumai(sp?) Pink Lady Roll Over the top roll Salmon sashimi Unagi BBQ Squid All were excellent. Service was tremendous and the place was spotless and cute. Servings were arguably too large but the quality was solid. My wife has had better salmon but this was very good(and probably would have been better/more tender if sliced more thinly). We will definitely be back.

Words don’t describe how unexpectedly fantastic our family found this place. We were looking for a great sushi place and looked to Unilocal and discovered one of the best in Tampa. My wife, 3 kids(all under 12) and I throughly enjoyed all aspects of this place. We felt that everything from the understated décor on through the food were exceptional. We found the potstickers were excellent, and the«Out of Control» roll were but a few of the outstanding selections we found on the menu. My kids asked to make this a regular family hangout. We will certainly be back.

I was in the area for an appointment on Saturday, March 12, and stumbled upon Sushi Ushi via Unilocal.Wow! Hands down, the best shrimp tempura rolls I’ve ever had(and I’ve tried a lot of shrimp tempura rolls). I am very particular when it comes to sushi — I exclusively order shrimp tempura rolls, and always have the nori(seaweed) replaced with soy paper. These rolls were so good that I didn’t even care that they were rolled with the soy paper on the outside. The roll was made with freshly cooked, large shrimp. Very flaky and light — the tempura batter they use is on-point. Their spicy mayo(which I always order with my sushi) was also delicious. I ordered my sushi to-go, and the hostess who took my order was very friendly. Sushi Ushi is a great little sushi spot! Highly recommended — I will be back when I’m in the area again.

Fresh ingredients and large portions help me to see what all the rave is about at Sushi Ushi! The firecracker and sweetheart rolls were amazing. We over-ordered and ended up with a full to go box. Our server was sweet and the establishment appeared clean and well-kept. Side note: the sweet tea was a little too sweet but that’s okay because everything else was fantastic.

Very good sushi. The peanut avocado roll is a must try. Delicious! I ordered the Volcano roll as well and it was amazing. The service was also great, very friendly customer service. I will definitely visit again even though it’s far from where I live. If you find yourself near Valrico, then definitely visit this restaurant. You will not regret it.

I found this restaurant through Unilocal research and was pretty amazed at the five star reviews it got. A girlfriend of mine set aside date night just to visit this restaurant all the way from the USF area. We went for dinner around 7 and were seated right away. The restaurant is oddly organized. Once you enter, you immediately see the sushi bar. Behind the sushi bar is the rest of the dining area. Sushi Ushi is a small place staffed by two servers(maybe three?) on a Friday night. Judging from the reviews that say that’s the best sushi place in Brandon, I wouldn’t want to try the mediocre sushi places. Sushi Ushi was a disappointment. We started out with the salmon tartare and uni shots. I enjoyed the tartare. It was misshapen for tartare maybe due to the sauce, but the flavors were good [plus, it came with avocado and you know your girl loves avocados]. Ahh and the uni shots. I can still remember them a month later. We probably shouldn’t have started with these. Maybe taking these first destroyed our palettes for the rest of what was to come. I had never taken an uni shot before and didn’t really know what to expect. I like uni by itself and I wanted to say I’ve taken one, so I convinced my girlfriend to try one with me. Tackling the whole shot, what tasted like sake slid down my throat first followed by the quail egg and then the Uni. If you could’ve seen my face when it was all in my mouth, I think it would convince you to never try it. I didn’t hate it, but I think I would’ve liked it better without the sake shot. Maybe I’ll just stick to ordering uni sashimi or uni nigiri next time. As for the sushi rolls, we tried three of the specialty rolls: uchi roll, Hawaiian roll, and explosion roll. I had asked them to torch the yellowtail on top of the uchi roll, because torched yellowtail is the best yellowtail. Each roll was packed and cut into larger than bite sized pieces which made them difficult to eat. Each piece of every roll started to fall apart as soon as you picked it up. The rice was unflavored. It tasted like regular white rice and not sushi rice. The description of the rolls sounded good, but the execution was poor. Despite the rolls looking complex on paper, each roll just tasted like mush. There’s was also way too much cream cheese in the Hawaiian roll. I expected Sushi Uchi to be innovative and delicious. The service was adequate and the food fell extremely flat. I wouldn’t return here even to try something new just because it is far from me, but I’m sure hibachi or something from the kitchen would’ve been better dinner options.

DONOTEAT here! This is the second time here, first visit was great, 2nd not so much, the sushi STUNK like chlorine or bad fish when I opened the containers at home against my better judgement due to the fact I spent $ 100 I ate it the rolls were falling apart & seemed almost like«mystery sushi» couldn’t even tell what the ingredients were since it looked like mush and came apart, brown specs of what is suppose to be «fresh» not so much! Yuck!!!

Craving sushi forever, my step daughter Terri’s visit was the perfect time to go out to enjoy some. She is an Elite Unilocaler from CA and had done her homework and wanted to try Sushi Ushi. So here we are. This was supposed to be our girls night out, but at the last minute hubby/daddy decided to join us. Weird since he doesn’t eat sushi. The restaurant was small and crowded. Nothing special. Our waitress however was very pleasant and nice. Terri and I decided to split 3 different sushi dishes. We got the Tempura Bagel Roll(cream cheese & salmon), the Hawaiian Roll(coconut shrimp inside and fresh mango topped it), and finally the Spider Roll(soft shell crab). everything tasted fresh and our three choices was more than enough food for the two of us. I was a bit disappointed with the presentation of the spider roll. It did not resemble a spider at all. Flavor was ok, but my least favorite of the three. The Tempura bagel roll tasted fresh and yummy. Who doesn’t like the combo of salmon & cream cheese? I agree with Trii, the Hawaiian roll reigned supreme. I love coconut shrimp period, but in a roll topped with fresh mango… perfection!!! Think I will return with my daughter-in-law one day, and try for that girls time out again!!!

I go here every time I visit family. Best sushi in the area no doubt. It’s a small up-and-coming place but perfect atmosphere for date nights. The food speaks for itself, I mean, look at the reviews Sushi Ushi has. The nigiri and rolls aren’t pack with too much rice like some places. Every time I get the tako su appetizer. The octopus are generous pieces and always fresh. But today I was surprised with a toro tartar by the sushi chef, soo good! Can’t wait to bring my girlfriend for dinner here tonight. - Decided to update the review since I have tried and enjoyed new things on the menu. The ahi poke is amazing and has a good amount of heat to it if you like spicy. Also, you’d be cheating yourself if you didn’t give the summer roll a try. So many layers of flavor but the lemon and peanut really make it savory. Overall, I’m sticking to my guns with 5 stars. I’d, give sushi Ushi 6 stars if I could. During my 3 days in town for the holidays I’ve dined in here 4 times and 2 out of those times I’ve taken more food to go after I’ve already eaten!

Sushi Ushi is okey dokey! I went searching for top notch sushi in the Riverview area, and couldn’t believe the luck of finding a restaurant with 70+ reviews holding steady at 5 stars — now that’s a feat! We popped in for dinner on a Friday night, and were able to get a table no problem. There is a modest sushi bar in the front room, with all the fresh fish on fabulous display, with a larger dining room in the back, complete with wasabi green walls. Their menu is brightly colored and easy to navigate, and has the standard sushi bar fare, including a listing of signature maki rolls. We couldn’t pass up the wackiness of the Tempura Bagel Roll(with salmon and cream cheese inside, how fusion!) or the divine inspiration of the Hawaiian Roll(sliced mango on top and coconut shrimp inside — OHYEAH). I also snagged an order of sake/salmon sashimi, and just had to order up a Spider Roll for the wow factor they generally provide. Our server was very sweet and our food came out beautifully, everything was tasty and fresh. The Hawaiian Roll was definitely my favorite, I loved the brightness of the mango on top and the fun flavor element of coconut. That Tempura Bagel Roll had a nice spicy kick, and was reminiscent to me of a godzilla roll, the deep-fried gutbomb style roll. Very flavorful but filling as hell, be warned — PLENTY to share. And the Spider Roll was nice but not as over the top in presentation as I’d hoped, nobody shrieked when it hit the table. ;) The sake/salmon was tasty though, 3 pieces served up though the menu said there would be 2, and it was melt-in-your-mouth fresh. I definitely enjoyed my meal and service at Sushi Ushi, and would happily return!

5 stars for the quality, presentation, and customer service What a great place we found simply because of Unilocal reviews! Thank you so much! Super nice customer service, quality of food, presentation, and byob make this place outstanding. I only wish we had this place in St. Petersburg. We brought a bottle of wine in and found out that there was no corkage fee AND the server actually offered us a wine opener! The sushi we ordered was amazing and when I asked about the urchin the server told us that it was not in stock due to the quality of it. Umm, when was the last time you heard that ??? I love honesty and especially with raw fish. The seaweed salad was amazing as were the tiger and tuna rolls. I soooo wanted to try a spicy tuna roll but I was already stuffed. Great place for sushi

Excellent! We were looking for a place to eat dinner while driving from Sarasota to plant city and found this place on Unilocal. We were not disappointed. It’s in an unassuming strip mall. We never would have stopped had it not been for Unilocal. They don’t have alcohol but we saw in another review that you can bring your own, so we stopped by total wine and grabbed a bottle of wine. They even had wine glasses for us. Perfect! We each got a seaweed salad and then some sushi. I had a mexican roll, not technically sushi haha but I love shrimp. It was excellent! My husband also had two different rolls. Everything was beautifully presented and excellent in flavor. If only it was closer to our home in st Pete. We will be back if we are in the area!

I have seen one of the elite member friend review this restaurant and want to come here to check it out. The restaurant is far away from any interstate. However, it is worth a trip for taste and unique of the food. This restaurant only has three elite members review including me. This restaurant needs to make know. I would say this is a very creative on taste and combination of the ingredient. We have Ahi Poke, Out of Control Roll, Tampa Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll. The Ahi Poke is Ahi tuna seared with shichimi pepper and tossed w. hot sesame oil, sriracha sauce, scallions, and masago. Served on crispy wonton chips, and avocado. It is a bit spicy but the preparation of the roll requires time in cooking, chopping, assembling, and decorating. It top with eel sauce and set on the fried wonton skin and make a beautiful presentation. The out of control roll is never out of control. The flavor is well control and sophisticate. This roll is tuna, salmon, kani & avocado inside, tuna, salmon & yellow– tail w. mayo & seared across, caviar on top w. eel sauce and scallion. This roll require dear across the roll top with eel sauce and masago. This is another creation of the chef. I would recommend order from the Uchi special roll section if you are here. The service is good. This place is a bit pricy but worth the money to try special roll.

I’m cruising through Brandon with my bass banging high, I got a couple of mommas riding right by my side. Two babies in the back looking for chow, stop at Taqueria Dona Maria ready to eat right now. All five of us march in without much fan fare, the waitress informs us «You’ll have to wait, we are all out of high chairs»(record scratch)… Say what? Only two high chairs in the whole place and they are both being used? Sorry, we gotta bolt. The five of us dejectedly took some selfies and then piled back into the car. Our new dinner destination, thanks to Unilocal and their hot and new designation, was Sushi Uchi. Sushi Uchi is a nearly two month old sushi restaurant located in a strip mall in Valrico. I inquired about high chairs before bringing everyone in and they assured me they had plenty(they also gave me a strange look as if to say how many babies are you trying to bring into this place). We were seated at a table for five in the middle of the dimly lit restaurant and handed menus. One of the first things we noticed? Sushi Uchi serves the avocado and peanut roll we are always on the look out for. Score! They also had our old stand-by the Tempura Sweet Potato Roll. We ordered one of each roll, a side of rice for the little one and a bowl of miso soup. The other mommy and child also ordered a side or rice and the tempura sweet potato roll. They added a Mexican roll to their order. First to arrive were our sides of rice and the miso soup. There was nothing unique or fancy about the soup, it was pretty much the same version of miso soup I’ve had at hundreds of other sushi places across the United States. The side of rice was, well, a side of rice. Hard to mess that up. Next out was the sushi rolls. The presentation of the rolls was very pretty. They were served on a long, white platter. The peanut and avocado roll was lined up in two rows of four and stood on end. The tempura sweet potato roll was laid down on top of a leaf, and drizzled with a sweet sauce. At the end of the platter there was a dollop of wasabi and some pickled ginger(all for show because we don’t mess with that stuff). My first bite was of the avocado and peanut roll. Unlike Aya, the first place we had it, this roll didn’t include sweetened peanuts. These were of the salted variety. I really liked the combination of creamy avocado and crunchy, salty peanut. J-Fur wasn’t quite as impressed as she desired the sweeter version. The Tempura Sweet Potato Roll was great. It was perfectly crisped, warm, and only slightly sweet. I was a huge fan of both rolls. After all the platters had been cleaned, our dinner guest and J-Fur stared at each other for a few seconds sizing up what to do next. Finally J-Fur spoke and said«I want another Tempura Sweet Potato Roll.» Our guest smiled and said that she was just thinking the same thing. So they both got another one. When the customers clamor for more, that’s when you know it’s good. The wait staff here was super attentive and helped out with every request we made. They even took the time to make faces at the little ones and play a bit. I’m not in Valrico much but next time I return, Sushi Uchi will be my food destination choice.
