TRE Motorsports

I first ran into TRE Motorsports in late 2011 when I was rebuilding to factory specification, a 1974 911 which was discovered to be the earliest known G-​Series American-​delivered 911 still on the road today (PCA certification). TRE restored the car to the point that it was selected as the coupe example for the Porscheplatz at Rennsport IV. Since then, TRE has continued to care for that car. Additionally, Dave, President of the company helped me to located a 1972 911T with original factory black paint that I bought. It had no engine. After I located an original 2.4 liter mfi engine, Dave helped me with a build sheet to develop an engine for the car with 2.9 liter pistons and barrels and all the modifications necessary to create an RS/​RSR specification engine. The idea was to maintain all of the original factory look, paint, and interior while upgrading the brakes and suspension to match the power of the new engine. A brilliant job was done. Today, TRE continues to maintain the car which continues to look stock, but runs and performs like an R-​Gruppe car. I recommend TRE to the new Porsche owner and the veteran Porsche owner alike, after nearly five years of experience with them.

This shop has always had a great reputation for top-​notch service, and my experiences there have been superb.
Ironically, much of the work that they have been doing for me is «fixing» the repairs from a previous shop that I once used in Burbank.
I highly recommend these guys. Dave & Jeremy are extremely knowledgeable and have always treated me fairly on price too!
They also don’t shy away from modified or tuned cars. My 1985 turbo is a gray market car from Porsche’s Special Wish program, and they just take it all in stride, modifications and all:)

I was looking for a new shop/​mechanic to work on my Porsche. I did as much research as possible. Pelican Parts Forums, Rennlist, Unilocal,so I decided to give TRE Motorsports a shot at my business. I really really wanted to like these guys. They were local and came with some good recommendations from the boards.
I stopped in to check out the place, told them the issue I was having and took a quick tour of the garage. They were nice, informative, and heck, there were a lot of Porsche’s there so I thought, yep these could be my guys!
Now I know fixing these babies is not always an exact science however you would think a top notch shop wouldn’t have to play the «It could be this, this or this, or even that» game. You don’t want to be the open wallet for a mechanic to use as his trial & error ATM. And then not even be successful at fixing the problem after multiple charges.
They replaced a part that was needed but failed to properly diagnose and fix the problem, even though they said they tested the vehicle and they weren’t able to experience the problem again. The problem still existed.
I had asked them to look at another issue and when they couldn’t give me at least a decent pinpoint as to what was causing the issue, that was a big part of my declining confidence in using them for this repair or any in the future.
The nail in the coffin for me was when I got home, I noticed that parts were not placed back to their proper position… plastic coverings, carpeting, and a socket unplugged. Now when I get the call that my car is ready, I would think the mechanic or service manager would make sure it was READY.
They did offer to put things back properly if I wanted to stop back by but that was not an option I chose to pursue.
Like I said, I really wanted to like these guys and have a relationship with them to repair and service my Porsche but if this is how they present themselves to a potential new longtime customer… I’m out.
My goal is not to slam TRE Motorsports but to give you a review of my experience. Maybe you will have better luck?

This review can’t speak to their shop, but I am speaking about how awesome Jeremy has been. I’ve been doing an exhaustive search for a 996. I’ve closed in on the one I wanted and need to get a PPI on the car. Jeremy spent the better part of 20 mins on the phone with me walking me through everything. He’s a scholar and a gentleman and I really appreciate him taking time out of his day to thoroughly explain all the potential issues as well as what I can expect in general. When I get my PPI done, Jeremy will be the person I use and TRE will be my shop once I have my keys in hand.

New to Porsche, but not new to classic cars by any means, I turned to TRE Motorsports in March after acquiring my 1973 914. There was a lot of work to do to bring the car up to snuff, and I’ve been very happy with the professionalism, great work and value I’ve received from Jeremy and Dave.
I can’t find words to explain how my car feels like it just came off the assembly line — I had no idea that something 40 years old could perform as well as this car has under the guidance and fine-​tuning provided by Jeremy.
I would not hesitate to take a new project to them, and plan to continue to use TRE Motorsports for any repairs needed on the 914 moving forward. They know their stuff.

I’m a little behind in my review; it’s been a year since I made my first visit to TRE to get a thorough lookover on my ’06 Boxster S.
Being female, I know all too well how shops treat women. I actually know a fair amount about cars; I used to work at a performance shop (non-​Porsche) in my younger years, but sadly, I just don’t really have the time (nor motivation) to work on my own cars anymore since I’m well into my career. Weird… as the years went by, getting dirty and greasy was just so not appealing anymore. But I digress…
When something is wrong with my car I usually know or have a good idea what it may be, so when shop guys try to give me the old speil about what I need to repair or my life is in danger, I usually just smile and mentally note not to visit them anymore.
So last year, when I needed to have basic maintenance done I gave TRE a call. There was no selling me on anything and they spoke very matter-​of-​fact, and I really appreciated it. I was very pleased with them on the phone. I brought my car in early one morning, and took possesion of it early the next day. Everyone was polite as I paid, and when I made it out to my car, they had dusted off my car (relatively clean) and cleaned my wheels (super dusty/​dirty)! OK, so it wasn’t a full-​on auto detail, but it was a pleasant surprise.
Thanks to all the guys at TRE! I’ll be visiting them soon for my second visit and oil change. Though I’m well under mileage, it’s been a year so i’m due and they earned my business!

Hi I met Dave over 2 years ago at TRE Motorsports. After visiting his shop, I immediately purchased an original set of RS Rear fender flares Dave had stored for a future car/​client. After my visits and a few calls and emails I knew Dave & his shop was where I need to take my 1974 911 to bring her back to life. Dave was easy to talk to and was a genuine Porsche guy through and through! I had recently bought the car from the 2^nd owner who had owned it for over 33 years but had neglected her the last 10 plus years. My goal was to build a RS/​ST 1974, Dave helped me with the process and shared his extensive depth of knowledge on what needed to be done. Dave helped source the right parts, welded the new wider rear fender flares, fabricated & installed fiberglass bumpers & ducktail & ensured top notch fit. During our restoration we upgraded to a newer 3.2 motor & transmission. Dave & his team have a wealth of knowledge, expertise & parts. It was a real pleasure working with Dave, always professional & delivering on his promise. The work is excellent and prices were fair. I highly recommend anyone to go see Dave/​TRE and see how he can help with your project car or simply for routine maintenance.

Dave and Jeremy at TRE have been a great help with my ’73 911 restoration project. The shop has everything from the newer 911’s, classic restorations and all out racers so I am sure they can cover any needs. Beyond just being a shop, TRE manufacturers and stocks plenty of performance parts for your RS, RSR, ST, etc. builds.

These guys are the best. I’ve been driving Porsches for over 20 years both throughout the States and in England, which means I’ve worked with several different Porsche service and repair shops. These guys are masters at what they do. They know their stuff and diagnose problems, thinking through each possibility and issue. Once the problem is fixed, it is fixed. I had to have the gaskets in my 1990 Carrera replaced. They had the car for a few months and it came back to me with incredible performance and gave me a confidence about the reliability of the car. They were right on the mark in terms of time and budget. The service couldn’t be better. On several occasions Jeremy took me in the back, showed me exactly what what going on with my car and even took me into the part room to explain to me what was going on with a part in my car which was not visible (part was still buried deep inside the engine). Jeremy always answers every question and curiosity I have about any and all Porsches with patience and insight. They’ve driven me all the way home on a few occasions; invited me to join the Porsche community and are just the most honest and nicest people to know. Dave and Buzz always offer a warm welcome and wisdom about the finer points of the Porsche which only comes after years of owning and driving them. I highly recommend these guys for any performance automobile work you may require.

Been going to these guys for 6 – 7 years. Good team of mechanics and you get treated like an individual, which is a nice change from the dealership. Plus, TRE works on everything from the newest Porsches back to the 356 era. Don’t try going to a dealership with anything more than 5 – 6 years old. Their specialty is performance, so if you want to improve your handling, power, interior or even bodywork, TRE will handle it. Yes, they are friends now, but they started out being just a shop for me. That’s the kind of place it is. Many of the cars they’ve built have earned national fame through Excellence and other Porsche publications. And for good reason.

Really terrible experience. They misdiagnosed my car completely, racked up $ 2,600 in expenses for an unnecessary repair (replaced the differential on my 996 turbo when it just needed a new bushing).
MORE IMPORTANTLY: they racked up 140 miles on my odometer. Any explanation for this?
BEWARE OF GOING TO TRE MOTORSPORTS. Also, please be careful when dealing with a kid there named «Amir» (I think that’s how you spell it).

What can I say other than the best Porsche service center in Socal — Dave, Jeremy and the team do an amazing job.

Amazing service, better than any mechanic I’ve ever had. These guys care about their work and your car! Everything is explained, no shady business. While working on my car, one of the mechanic’s lamps slightly burned one of my floormats. Without even asking, they ordered 2 new ones for me, no charge!
Very classy, very professional, very honest.
