I’m sorry to have to write this review but this facility is terrible. We have a family member recovering from a serious car accident at PeaceHealth hospital and we’re needing to pick a rehab facility for his next stage of healing. We had a walk through today and were so disgusted with Discovery… and disgusted is a strong word, by what we saw. Patients were partially in doorways in their wheelchairs one severely slumped over a the waist. It was so dark and dreary. It was depressing and oppressive. It smelled like stale death… seriously! This facility is not correctly represented on it’s website.

My husband’s Grandma suffered a major stroke months ago. She was initially sent to another facility for rehabilitation across town where she was unhappy. She wasn’t comfortable there and she was frequently in a confused state. She was sent to the hospital during her stay there for medication issues. Although the staff was very polite, visiting Grandma was very uncomfortable and it was not a very welcoming place. After she made some progress, she tried to go home to have a family member care for her, but that didn’t work out, she ended up back in the hospital. When she was released from the hospital this final time roughly 6 weeks ago, she was placed at Discovery. Since she arrived, we have seen our Grandma come leaps and bounds. She can be cranky and difficult at times, but because she is so much more comfortable and has her needs well accommodated, her whole outlook is much more sunny. She smiles more than she complains, she comes out of her room and socializes, she is making friends. All of the residents seem content, given their circumstances, almost every person is cheerful and smiling. The best part of all, is our Grandma is making much more progress towards regaining the use of her side that her stroke paralyzed. The staff at Discovery has been absolutely wonderful, everyone we’ve met has been cheerful, friendly and patient with the residents, they joke around and give a level of care that is rare in this industry. My husband and I actually enjoy our weekly visits to the facility, and so does our 2 year old son, especially since many times a staff member or 2 will come and play with him on their breaks. We come at various hours and there are always staff members cleaning and caring for the residents. The level of compassion I’ve witnessed leads me to believe Discovery employs people that actually love what they do and who they do it for. I am so grateful someone I love is receiving the best care possible. Thank you to the staff of Discovery! For everything you do!

On September 18th I walked out of Discovery Nursing and Rehab for the last time. My brother had passed on that afternoon and I was moving his possessions out. The staff offered to let me keep everything there for a few days if I needed, which was extremely nice of them, but I wanted out of there… you know? In his last days my brother didn’t make life easy for the staff here, and through it all they remained helpful and sympathetic to what my family and I were going through. They worked in concert with the Hospice people and kept my brother out of pain and safe for the last few weeks of his life. The social worker was the key to everything we needed, Christina was just amazing and made the whole experience much easier than it could have been. The nursing staff was amazing(most of them, there was one notable exception) and the people in administration were so completely understanding. When in a terrible situation you can only count on the people that are willing to step up and there were many here that did on the long term care side. In the end, I was glad there was a place for my brother to leave the planet with some dignity and what more could you ask?
