I know this should probably be listed as a tip but I wanted to put in a little detail. The food here has always seemed better at lunch than dinner. I say this after coming in sporadically for 30+ years and nothing has given me reason to change my mind. We popped in for an order to go. We chose Happy Family and Kung Pao Tofu. The Happy Family was fine. The Kung Pao Tofu was bland, to say the least. It just seemed like a bunch of chopped up veggies, a few peanuts and some form of(not very much) anonymous sauce. The white rice was a tad dry. The fried rice was white rice with soy sauce over it; very austere indeed. This part of town is a lot livelier than when we lived here in the 80s, yet there was only one occupied table at 8:00 on a Friday night. These folks are really missing the boat, as it were. I would come in here for dinner if I were close and I didn’t want to drive elsewhere but that’s about it.

Nothing to complain about here. They give you a lot of food quickly for a decent price. The staff is very friendly and courteous.

Wow. The few negative reviews seem too harsh to me. First, I don’t know what is authentic Chinese food in the US. Unlike Mexican, which comes in authentic and in Tex-Mex, I’m not aware that Chinese is radically different, in the variety and type of dishes offered, from restaurant to restaurant in the US. Second, our water didn’t smell like sewer. When I read poor reviews of a place I like, I usually conclude that the negative reviewer may be a poor judge of good food, or may have arrogance issues or some ulterior motive to diss a place. I am a wine taster and a pretty good chef, so if food is bad, I should know it. The food at Peking Garden is pretty good, especially for the portion size and the price. Is it incredible gourmet? No, nor should it be. For us, the staff was very friendly. The food is fresh. I do wish they offered brown rice. You need to tell them if you don’t want MSG. The décor is aged but it’s clean and it’s cool that the place has been around for 50 years! It is an important part of what is a surprisingly good downtown Vancouver vibe. The Gen’l Tso’s Chicken was a different take – much lighter crust(lighter in body and in color), and the sauce was lighter in both senses also. But quite good. I asked them to add vegetables to it, and they added carrot, broccoli, water chestnut, and onion for just $.45 more! The veggie Mushu was really great. All veggies were fresh and well-cooked. We will definitely be going back.

Hot and Sour Soup OK… Crab Puffs good… And plentiful… Lunch Sized Pork Foo Young was enormous. Everything was hot fresh and tasty… The use of frozen carrots cut into squares somehow blows the presentation… But decent grub. And they have parking. A commodity in the area.

Started with the appetizer sampler and it was a lot of food. Crab cream cheese fried wonton, BBQ pork, egg rolls and tempura shrimp all tasty. Had the dinner for 2 and it was enough to feed 4 easily. Sweet and sour chicken is decent. Orange chicken was amazing it was a mix of sweet and salty a little spicy. The service was wonderful. Would eat here again for sure.

We were dying for good Chinese and as we were new to the area we turned to reviewers on Unilocal for help. When we pulled in and saw the parking lot was empty we still went in, but once we entered the problems already began. There is no tactful way to say this so I’ll be blunt –the place smelled awful! It smelled like a dirty fish tank or wet dog. This was really bad. Our two-year-old granddaughter grabbed and crinkled her nose. Still, based on the reviews we gave it a try thinking that there must just be a dirty fish tank nearby that needed cleaning. We ordered a family meal and waited. Once the meal came we hoped for the best — after all, the appetizer plate was all our favorites: crab puffs, pork, egg rolls and shrimp! Yum, right? NOPE! All the fried items tasted like they had been cooked in oil that needed to be changed. The pork was okay, but it wasn’t warm and didn’t have as much flavor as we are used to. Next the main course came and the items were so/so. The sweet and sour chicken and low mein were the best of the entire meal, but still nothing great. All I can tell you is we won’t be going back.

The food is not authentic Chinese cuisine, it’s the true blue American version. If that’s what you like, you’ll love Peking Garden. My grandma adores this place. I don’t share her enthusiasm, but I’m happy to take her out to lunch anywhere. We had cashew chicken and happy family. I found it salty and lacking real flavor. My grandma enjoyed it. The prices were great and the portions were on the bigger side. Service was fast and friendly. I would recommend this if you want Americanized take out at a good price. Or if you want to take your Grandma to lunch. I would pass if you’re looking for real Chinese food.

Great food! Always piping hot. You never have to wait to long for your food. Prices are very resonable. The only thing is, the owners daughter has a hard time understand our order. It was difficult to ask questions. However the owner did come over and helped out.

I don’t understand why I keep seeing bad reviews. It’s a take out place for Christ sake! Honestly people, what do you expect. It’s not traditional and 100% Americanized but then again it’s located in Vancouver Where you really can’t sell anything but a cheeseburger and olive garden –That’s not to knock the kitchens abilities-. Its a family owned place, very nice people, and they are always glad to have your business. I recommend them because they work hard and it’s fairly clean(which is something when you’re dealing with Chinese). It’s nothing gourmet but it’s exactly what you want if you are looking Chinese. Enjoy.

I ordered the General Tso chicken lunch special. The hot and sour soup that came with it didn’t have much flavor besides the hot. Great Taste by VanMall has much better hot and sour soup. My special came with fried rice, fried shrimp, BBQ pork, and fried rice. The shrimp was golden brown and tasty. The pork was moist and had good flavor. The rice was very lightly fried and didn’t have much flavor. The chicken was white meat(no mystery bits inside) which I greatly appreciate but there wasn’t a lot of meat inside and it was fried maybe a little too long so some pieces were a little tough. The flavor was pretty good although I like much more spice.

Um, if this place was any closer, I’d be morbidly obese. Holy crap. I realize that your experience can depend greatly on what item you happen to order from the menu, so let me save you the trouble. Get the honey chicken(the mayo based one) and the chicken fried rice(the crab puffs are pretty good too). I crave it nightly… and buy it fortnightly. Seriously. Also the people who work there are super nice. It aint PF Wangs — but I like it that way.

I couldn’t write a review for Peking Garden because 99% of my dining experience came from 1992 – 1996, when I was in high school. During that time, I ate copious amounts of their food and loved it. However, I did manage to visit during my Christmas vacation back home. I ordered my favorites, pot stickers, hot & sour, and Princess Chicken SUPER spicy. I was happy to see that the food hadn’t really changed in the last 17 years. The place was empty when I went but I was there at an odd time during the week. If you live in the area, take out may be a good option. I’ve never been a huge fan of «downtown» V-town and it is smack in it. They do have parking and do take cards. Enjoy!

Delicious, cheap, and with good service. We like coming here and enjoying the various specials they have, especially the soups and the stir-fry dishes. The tea is really delicious, and the waitress(owner?) said it is a blend of green and oolong tea; it has a very unusual flavor and we love it. The lounge here always seems to be packed, but the restaurant is rarely packed; if you order a drink you’ll see why! They pour strong and don’t charge a lot! The focus is mostly on the fried foods and the appetizer dishes, but the soups are all delicious and if you get a bowl, it’s a lot to eat. The fried foods are a bit less«heavy» than you find in a lot of American-Chinese joints, which is a plus and there isn’t anything actually bad that we’ve tried after eating here several times. The food is always served up quickly and it’s so hot you know it just came off the fire. The music is often just soft rock or whatever they want to have on, but at least it’s not J-pop or Top 40. Being between Mill Plain and 4th Plain on Main st means it has easy freeway access and there’s always parking nearby.

Peking Garden is so unfortunate for me. First of all I have to admit that Chinese food is NOT my favorite. But, I believe I can tell what good food is and Peking Garden does not serve what I would consider to be the best food they could give. Their veggies are from a frozen bag, their soups are always flavorless and too thick and their entrees are usually greasy and over-sauced. I guess some people are into that because this place fills up for lunch, their awesome lunch specials probably help a lot, On the bright side, they are very friendly, always give you hot tea and are usually open on holidays. I really wish I could like them more, sober or drunk.
