I stopped in for lunch today to this place not knowing what to expect. Full disclosure here, I’m not from the NW area and my BBQ tastes are largely influenced by real southern BBQ and Texas BBQ joints. I’ve had some really good and really bad BBQ in my day and Hoosegow did not disappoint. I tried the open face burger with chili and the best parts were the chili and the toasted ciabatta bread on the base of the meal. Also, I ordered the sweet tater fries which were of the crosscut variety. They were crunchier than what I’m used to but delicious. I requested honey with the fries and although they were perplexed by this, they brought out some heated natural honey which was delicious. This is the sort of place you go when you have an appetite and I highly recommend.

When I go out to breakfast I get potatoes and eggs in one form or the other 90% of the time. The combination of price point, food quality, and service at The Hoosegow puts it at #1 on my list of the best breakfast places in the Portland Metro area.

I took my mom there today. Food was good, I had the pulled pork and my mom the chicken salad sandwich. The flow of the restaurant is a little weird, but overall not a problem. Service is very slow as well. But the food was good. I’d go back.

Only complaint I have about this place is, I found it only months before I moved away!!! Still upsets me I only got a couple months to enjoy this delicious food. I love everything about this place. The décor is cute, staff is always beyond friendly, food(no matter what you order) is the best you’ve ever had! My friend did say the chili was a bit more spicy than she expected, but was still so good. So if you don’t like spicy, try the Mac and cheese. It’s so tasty!!! Great place for lunch, even when the place is packed, the food comes out quickly after you order.

Ive tried this place twice now… months apart. Its so close to work that I was hoping they may have gotten better over time. The flavor of food is good but the quantity for the price is extremely poor. A sandwich is extremely small and ala carte. when you pay 7 $ for a pulled pork sandwich and you have to pay extra for fries, thats crazy. Nowhere seems to make it in this location which is really sad because it is so convenient for County employees. I suspect the rent on the building might be high so they jack up the prices accordingly. I wont try it a third time… sad

Stopped by the Hoosegow to pick up lunch today for myself and two coworkers. Environment was nice and employees were quick to assist. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries, a burger with fries and a tri-tip sandwich with tator tots. The food was extremely overpriced(especially for the quality). We paid $ 34.00 for lunch and none of us were satisfied with our meals. The pulled pork sandwich lacked flavor and even after being smothered in the extremely limited supply of BBQ sauce that was provided, it was still far less than satisfactory. At the time of order, it was requested that the burger be made with a regular hamburger bun instead of a ciabatta roll, Needless to say, the one we received came with a ciabatta roll and a pathetically sized, bland patty. The tri-tip was just like pulled pork in that it lacked flavor and had to be smothered in bbq sauce. None of us ate more that 2 bites of our meals. The fries and tator tots were good, but thats not anything to write home about. I gave this place 2 stars for the fact that the manager did provide us a full refund, however it did not come unaccompanied. He made it very clear that he wasn’t sure how any of the food lacked flavor and that this was the first time anyone has ever made a complaint about his food. While the refund was being issued he elaborated on how he receives rave reviews on Unilocal,so on and so forth. As a fellow business owner, I recognized this as an unprofessional encounter with unnecessary comments. Its one thing to believe in your product and a complete other thing to undermine someones criticism of it. In business, its constructive. His food was extremely bland and unsatisfactory, and that was coming from 3 separate individuals. Overall, it was an entirely unpleasant experience. I will not be returning to The Hoosegow.

Taco Tuesday: pulled pork or brisket. $ 2.50 each on a corn tortiila and they’re topped with homemade slaw. Brisket was tender and moist. Pulled pork was soft and juicy. It was a perfect amount for lunch and it arrived superfast.

I was coming back from California and got hungry around lunch time. Found this place on Unilocal, read the reviews and I was sold. Showed up and was instantly greeted with hospitality, the service was great, everyone is very nice and friendly and of course the food was amazing! Try it all, go with friends and enjoy it because it was definitely worth the stop!

If you have high standards for BBQ, look no further! This food is comparable to the great BBQ that I have had in Kansas City in the past. The pulled pork is great. Service is even better! I recommend dine-in, pick-up, or catered if you have a big event.

Never heard of this place until yesterday at approx 12:07pm. The office catered in lunch from The Hoosegow. On a low-cal diet here, but I’m a tightwad and can’t pass up free food. I have had pulled pork at BBQ places across the country. This was hands-down, no contest, the BEST pulled pork I have ever had. Everyone else should just give up. I’m at a loss for words. Just trust me. Go eat the pulled pork here. Just leave some for me.

Excellent Breakfast Sausage and Biscuits and gravy are just made to perfection. My favorite is their Bacon Bleu cheese burger on Ciabata bread with an aoili sauce. They are known for their smoke bbq Pork which is very good.

I went here with a friend at the suggestion of a coworker a few weeks ago, and we sat at the bar up front. I had a pastrami sandwich with sweet potato fries and my buddy ate a pulled pork sandwich. Both meals were fresh and delicious, and very reasonably priced. We will be back!

I don’t know what the deal is with this location. It seems like every time I come around, there’s a different restaurant having a go at this space. I really hope these folks make it. I had the Chicken Salad sammy; it had pecans and cranberries, which would never have crossed my mind to make at home. Yay them, boo me. Someone ordered a bowl of chili. It smelled heavenly and I know what I’m ordering next time. The fries were fine but I regret not ordering at least a cup of chili for dunking. They smoke their own meat out back. That smell alone should bring all the boys to the yard, as it were. I’ve only been here once. I usually like to hit any local place 3 times before I review it but I feel the need to let folks know of it’s existence. If you are nearby, please give them a try.

I really like this place. Open face chili burger was excellent. Good flavor on the burger and a nice bun. The fries had really good salt. A friend had the pulled pork and was happy with that as well.

This space in downtown Vancouver, right across from the courthouse has seen some interesting establishments come and go, a coffee house, a kitsch café and none seem to make it here. Being as The Wife works a block away she keeps tabs on these places as lunch options are not plentiful here. On my days off I like to surprise her and show up so we can have some non-kid time together. Off we went on her recommendation that they had good chili, and me being a chili connoisseur I was game for a new place. As you walk in along the street passed the machine shops and bail bond places you step in the door at 609 West 11th Street and it’s like stepping into a bit of the old west meets Bistro, which is appropriate as they label themselves as a Bistro. Up front is a bar(with awesome canning jar light fixtures) with some round tall tables in a small area, but walk down the hallway and there is a nice dining room area with a cozy intimate area on the side and even a deck. We were seated immediately by friendly staff with menus and drink orders taken right there. We scanned the simple menu and decided on chili(which the Wife recommended) a bratwurst sandwich and a side of fries to share. The food came out very fast, hot and fresh! My first spoonful of chili was a treat for the senses, it had everything in a chili that I wanted, a smoky and slightly sweet taste with a variety of beans(argue about beans in chili somewhere else, both a perfectly acceptable in my book) and as I took a second spoonful the complexity of flavors became more apparent. This is a really good chili, maybe as good as mine and that’s saying something. I ordered a cup but you can bet next time I come back it’ll be a bowl. The sandwich was excellent, the bratwurst was perfectly seasoned and the cibata roll was fresh. The fries were crisp and hot on the outside and creamy on the inside, this place knows fries. They smoke all their meats out back on the deck including there own pastrami, pork and tri tip beef. They have catering available as well for groups of up to 300. I think that this space as found a keeper finally, perfect for the poor people who can’t think their way out of jury duty, judges, lawyers and courthouse staff, but it is also well worth a drive to check out any time for breakfast or lunch. Open Monday through Friday starting at 7:00am with a breakfast menu. I know I’ll be back often.
