Like all island beaches, we don’t ship in sand to pretend the northwest beaches aren’t what they are: big rocks, barnicles, and more barnicles. Muddy sand and seaweed with it’s own aroma. Not for the pampered beachers who expect imported sand and a vending machine. Dockton is Vashon beaches in all their unapologetic glory. This aint pool water heah. Watch out for Jelly fish. It does have small shower facilities, docking, picnic areas, fire pits, BBQ grills and a modest playground and a swimming area. But beware in tourist season for the people who decide to take their kayak’s and canoes through the clearly marked swimming area. I say splash ‘em. Try to get some seaweed in there. It gets a star off for taking down the swings.

A dock with lots of boats, a swimming beach, playground, hiking trails and sunny, grassy picnic spots galore make this King County park a standout. I lived near here as a kid and spent every sunny day at the park. The place has just gotten better with age. You’ll do some driving to get here, but it’s worth it and it’s a nice drive if you want to check out the island.
