Bought a pair of Reef sandals they just got in. Turns out they were defective from the manufacturer. Even though they have a no return/exchange policy they acknowledged the issue and allowed me to exchange for another style. Props to Maui and Sons for finding the grey area in their store policy. Be kind and polite and you’re gonna have a good time

Went here with my niece for surfing lessons. Pros: Great people. Instructors are wonderful. Their lessons are great for all ages. Cons: Would like to see some more women’s apparel in the shop but can’t complain. Highly recommend this place. And if you go for a lesson, ask for Ben. Just trust me.

Cheryl is the most generous, kind, and creative business owner. She genuinely cares about her customers and their preferences. Her new shop on Washington near the venice pier is gorgeous and hosts a wide variety of killer surf and beach gear. A must see!

Amazing customer service! I had to buy a skateboard as a gift for someone, and I know nothing about skateboards. I had a picture of the board that someone had snapped with an iPhone, but it only included the top of the board. Mary at the store helped me identify exactly which board it was, and then let me know that I could order the board a few days before it was time to give the gift(the return policy is 7 days so I didn’t want to buy too early just in case). The store even gave me a call a few days before I’d said I would order it to let me know that they were placing an order with that company and could order my board. When I went in to pick it up, Mary was so nice and helpful again.

I’ve always wanted a Penny board or a small board of the sort. The significant other and I came across this shop during spring break as we were walking down Venice and decided to take a look. An employee came up to us fairly quickly. He cut the zip ties off of a blue, floral Globe board and let me try it out. The board was on sale for $ 80, so I had to cop this one. Took this one back home in the Bay! Forgot his name, but the employee with the dark-rimmed glasses was really helpful. I get compliments all the time when I ride this board on campus and I have a bunch of friends who really want one now. I’d send them over to Maui & Sons, if they were located in the Bay Area! Next time I’m in LA, I’ll come by to see if I need an upgrade :)

I liked how they don’t pressure you to buy anything, or make you feel awkward while browsing. Ended up getting a penny board for fair price.

I had a really great experience here. I’m just getting my five year old son started with skate boarding lessons, so we went in to Maui & Sons to check out their prices. I figured there’d be a premium considering their proximity to the skatepark, but Amazon confirmed I was wrong and their prices are super competitive. But they offer a component not available online or at the big sporting goods stores, ridiculously knowledgeable and attentive customer service. Between Etai and Bambi, I instantly felt like I was in good hands. And counter to another review I read, never felt like I was being up-sold. I actually ended up spending forty bucks less on his skateboard than I thought I might. If you want subpar equipment and zero guidance, I’d say just go to Walmart or Toys R’ Us. I’m looking forward to watching my son grow in the sport and I’m psyched to have found a family oriented group of enthusiasts to facilitate his entry into the world. Thanks, guys.

Maui and sons Located at Venice beach. Where people skate and surf for fun. I, myself was a tourist this weekend at Venice beach. I am from NorCal. The bay to be exact. As well, I skate. A cruiser. I came across an awsome skate store while I was at Venice, Maui and sons. Over at the bay… There is skate shops but by far… Maui and sons located at Venice beach HASTOBETHEBESTSKATESTORE I HAVEEVERBEENTO. The community really inspires me to skate and surf. Besides that… They have a great selection of boards! As well, the service is friendly and welcoming! I recommend anyone to check it out when they want to visit Venice or are looking for a new board!

Arnold the shark is so cute! Having a few shirts and bathing suits, I had to stop in and check out the original store. Super friendly. Sale rack out front, so I got a tank for $ 12. Awesome.

Legit board shop on the Venice Boardwalk. Skater owned and operated. Owner Cheryl, loves to support the girls in the skate scene. She carries the brands that appeal, and support the ladies. Meow Skateboards, Hoopla Skateboards, Silly Girl, Girl Is Not A 4 Letter Word, etc. Her shop is a pretty decent size, so she carries just about anything you need! Trick boards, long boards, cruiser boards, clothing, accessories, all hard goods, wetsuits, surf board selection in the back. Whatever you need, Maui & Sons has you covered!

I started working at Maui And Sons because of my retail experience(I hadn’t been on a skateboard since I was 12). I expected the typical retail sales job experience… sell sell sell. Instead I got inducted into the skate culture, Venice beach community, Maui and Sons family and what I’ve always thought«SALES» should be about. I quickly learned that they were more concerned with their reputation as a skate/surf shop and local business, than sales. If my customer walked out not buying anything? I got praised for educating them on skateboards, relating to them and sending them out happy. As a result I started to have actual fun at what I thought would be a boring, temporary retail job. It made me actually interested in what I was selling. Favorite part of my job is getting to teach beginners how to skate and teaching them how to take care of their boards. 2nd fave? Seeing them come back and thank us and rave about how happy they are with their boards!!!(Oh, and getting paid to hang out at the beach doesn’t hurt!!!)

This review is based on my husbands experience: my husband walked into the store to purchase the small $ 29 skateboard that he scoped out yesterday as a starter skateboard for our 10 year old. The sales guy, «kristy or krusty» ??? Insisted that my husband buy the $ 85 skateboard instead. He continued to pressure him and even asked my husband to go and try the skateboard out over and over and over gain even though my husband kept explaining that he clearly had an infant baby in a stroller with him and was alone. Because this sales person seemed clearly«not all there» my husband walked out without the $ 29 purchase. I think the store owner should have a talk with their staff. This is not a good way of being a sales person!

The ladies here are super kind and helpful! Gave my 15 year old brother a skating lesson and helped him find his first board. Came back a couple days later and they showed him how to change the wheels. They really took their time to teach him and make him feel like a cool lil skater! Plus, they gave us a discount since he was buying his first board with his own money. Awesome shopping experience.

This place is a very cool store on the Venice boardwalk. They have tons of surf and skate items. The customer service here is really great too, I have no idea why people are saying this place has bad customer service. The staff are super helpful and friendly and know what they are talking about. The only thing that would be better about this store is if their reissue decks were cheaper, but hey, I really can’t complain about the prices since some of the other skate shops have some of the same items for way more. This is a great place to visit if you’re in the Venice boardwalk area. Would recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely terrible customer service. I bought a pair of head phones here that sounded really muddy. So i came back to return them, and the guy checks him self and tries to convince me there fine. He said I wasn’t here if he could give me store credit, but I set his punk ass straight. Boycott this place everyone, these people are rude and inconsiderate. They won’t return anything for full money back if it’s opened, even if it’s defective.
