Small spot, but super popular. Despite the small space, we were able to get a table within a few minutes. Think we got lucky… reservations highly recommended. I ordered the lobster roll, my wife got the lobster Hollandaise. We both liked each others dishes more… If you want, you can get cheaper breakfast options here too, but try these first. Nice to have a more fun breakfast/brunch option.

Came here for a full meal and found the food good, but not impressive. The chicken and waffles is actually a deconstructed version, with the waffles crumbs(???) being used to bread the chicken. The lobster mac n cheese was quite bland except for the hunks of lobster in the mac n cheese. The staff was fantastic, and super friendly, but overall the food was lacking.

We came here for dinner on Friday night. We parked on Venice beach($ 5 after 6pm) and then walked to this place. I really like the cute, ocean décor. The mussel appetizer is quite good. I wish there was more sauce /soup with the mussels because the sauce tastes great with the buttered, grilled bread. I got the lamb sliders and they were delicious. There’s three sliders and they use sweet Hawaiian bread which makes it yummy. Their version of a Moscow mule here is also quite good.

Really excellent happy hour! We stumbled into it by accident, but were ultra happy with the attentive service & the terrific oyster selection. The manager was just terrific about explaining oyster names & origins. Plus, the happy hour prices are amazing :-)

I searched Unilocal for a long time in hopes of finding the perfect bar last Tuesday night. Needed a place close to the boardwalk and open past 10pm, which proved to be a bit of a challenge. In the end, The Anchor came out on top of my search and I went around 9:30pm for the first time, along with my husband and two friends who were visiting from Paris. It’s a very small bar with a great looking menu. We did not eat, but instead came for a nightcap. The best part was that Tuesdays are HALFOFFWINEBOTTLES — all bottles! Since our friends were here from Paris and know a thing or two about wine, we wanted to highlight a California wine for us to enjoy. Our waiter, Matt, was extremely friendly and attentive. He let us sample 3CA wines and we chose Father’s Watch Kivelstadt to drink — a nice red blend from Sonoma County. Service was great, wine was great and will be back to try the menu(they are apparently known for their Lobster Roll). Docked one star because even though we were only there an hour, our clothes had a terrible«bar food» smell when we got home.

I rarely ever give 1 star reviews, but this experience was just too bad to go unmentioned. I researched for awhile for a seafood place in Venice to take my mom to for Mother’s Day since she loves lobster rolls and I was so excited to try this place. We had a reservation for 11am, which is when the restaurant opens. We had a nice spot on the patio and there were a couple other tables already seated. The server then proceeded to give us the bad news that the two specialty items on the menu were unavailable. I then asked if we could substitute smoked salmon for the eggs benedict(since there was smoked salmon on the menu) and was then told that that was not available as well. Talk about a HUGE disappointment! The restaurant is really lucky that the server was nice and professional– I actually felt bad for her that she had to deliver that news to everyone that morning. I guess I can understand a late shipment on a regular day, but to be so unprepared on Mother’s Day is just beyond me. I ended up ordering the breakfast plate and the homemade biscuit was so dry and flavorless. The rest of it was just okay. My mom’s french toast was ordinary and didn’t come with any sides and my dad’s shortrib tacos were just okay as well. We did get a glass of complimentary champagne but it was just such a big disappointment that I probably will never go back.

What a disappointment! Came here for the lobster for Mother’s Day and they tell us it won’t be ready for an hour! Ever heard of preparing ahead of time? It’s Mothers Day! I have yet to get my Bloody Mary. I could go on and on for so many things that have gone wrong with today’s menu and service. Thank you, The Anchor for ruining what could have been a perfect Mother’s Day for me and my Mom. You managed to make our day terrible. A place that is known for lobster doesn’t even have it for its patrons that have made reservations ahead of time. So we had no choice but have it with salmon. My mom had her Benedict with just tomato but they had the audacity to charge us the same price as their Lobster Benedict! Really??! Also all the Benedicts were served In a bowl? Are you for real?!! Finally, no lemonade? No Sprite? Just Coke in a can that they charged us $ 3 for… for one can of Coca Cola! Anchor, get your act together!

I’ve been to The Anchor for both lunch and dinner on separate occasions. Service is great, no question about that. Things of note at The Anchor… — the place is tiny! If you come here for brunch, make a reservation because otherwise you will be waiting forever since there is such limited seating. — super uncrowded for lunch during the week. I think the best deal at lunch is their beer(even though they are known for wine) — the menu is wayyyyy different for lunch or dinner. Lunch is sandwiches and burgers whereas dinner has their bigger courses like the octopus. I went with the lobster roll– which is delicious but not the most filling. If you are hungrier, you should probably opt to go with their burger, which is actually surprisingly good. — the chicken n waffles is not actually chicken and waffles but chicken fried in a waffle batter! This always surprises people. Let this be a warning to you. — they make a good salad. Mostly because they make a good vinaigrette. — dessert is good, but you could probably spend your money elsewhere Overall, I think I enjoy coming to Anchor for dinner food wise but I like the uncrowded laid back vibes at lunch. I have personally not made it out for a brunch yet to have an opinion on it.

A nice casual spot to eat some decent food. The kale and quinoa salad comes with fresh sliced peaches which gives the dish a nice and refreshing taste. Ordered the truffle lobster roll($ 19) which sounds good when you read it on the menu. Unfortunately, I would have to say that East Coast lobster rolls win, yet again. Don’t get me wrong, this dish is very good… But I don’t think I would want to pay $ 19 again for this lobster roll. Overall decent food, decent service and good atmosphere.

Heard decent reviews about The Anchor and decided to drop in during the week for dinner. And boy was I pleased. Came in on a Wednesday around 7pm, when it wasn’t too packed. There’s both outdoor and indoor seating(with TVs). Staff here was very pleasant and attentive. Now on to the food: Chicken and Waffles — wow, they take a really unique spin on chicken and waffles here, where the chicken wings are nicely deep fried within the waffles. Good bye health, hello a little taste of heaven. Braised Octopus — definitely well made here. the guac was interesting but definitely still tasty. The Anchor Lobster Roll — a highlight of the night as many others have recommended. a fair amount of lobster. the roll being generously buttered and toasted. a dash of truffle. cant go wrong here folks Brussel Sprouts — there’s gotta be a lot of good things going on here because the brussel sprouts here are delicious and plentiful. Beer — served in a super chilled glass.(not sure when the happy hour is, but there is one) Would come back!

This is that spot, yo. I ain’t never askin’ questions when the wine bottles is half off; I’m jus’ orderin’ two or three, stat. And that steak… medium rare, but a li’l more rare… homies was quintessential on that one. The staff was dope, too, although it seemed like them fools was dominating the prime real estate of the bar– which ain’t bad, cuz they rad-seemin’, good-looking folks. Jus’ sayin’. Met the owner and she was really nice. She apologized for the wait and gave us a discount in our bill. All the seafood dishes we ordered were all fresh(mussels, lobsters, oysters). I like the vibe of the place. Pretty laid back. Just bummed out they ran out of dessert. I heard their peach cobbler is yummy. Next time I’ll check it out! They have wine selections and their server is pretty knowledgeable with the type of wine I like. I settled for a Cabernet.

Really enjoyed brunch at this spot. I was able to get a last-minute reservation(same day), it’s a little hole in the wall but still screams cute and tasty. You’ve got the kitchen right there in front of you, a little patio outside, and a fun vibe perfect for getting together w friends or a date. $ 15 bottomless mimosas took the cake, and the lobsters Benedict took it to the house. Was a small dish albeit filling. The service did not disappoint, either. I took a cab so I can’t recall if they have valet, otherwise it’s street parking. They have happy hour on Saturday(4 – 6 I believe) so I was told then it can get packed. Good vibes, good food and good times.

Terrible service. The hostess has really bad attitude. Food isn’t bad but if the staff is rude and have bad attitude, it makes the experience bad and leaves no desire to go back. Friends of mine have gone and they had similar experience wrote a review and it was taken down. If the restaurant has a problem with bad reviews because of the hostess and staff they should hire a whole new set of staff that is properly trained to work at a restaurant and has good customer service.

(Rating based only on food I had) Chicken N Waffles — :-) I love the approach, using waffles batter to fry the jidori chicken. Very crispy and fluffy, and the maple glaze + chili salt goes well with it. I enjoyed it, just I would prefer using larger pieces of chicken, instead small wings. Soul food size preferred. Charred Octopus — :-| Very tender, actually maybe a bit too tender. Well charred. Portion is kinda small that night, just two pieces of leg. Anchor Lobster Roll — :-) Lobster meat is fresh and yummy, love it. But the bun is too sweet. Did they use Hawaiian bread? I still like roll better. Shaving of truffle this time is a bit weak, am I simply bad in luck, or because I told them I have blackboardeats coupon? Roasted Salmon — :-| Salmon done just right, flaky with moisture. Not bad. Interesting to have it in bonito broth. Using flavored seaweed is a very bad choice, they really should kombu instead, for a more subtle and light but deep flavor. Since it’s in bonito broth, I think using sea bass is a better choice than salmon.

Get ready for your tastebuds to sail away on an epic adventure of yumminess! Of course before you do that, you’ll have to find parking. If you can’t find street parking, don’t fret. Parking is free for the first hour(with validation) or $ 8 all day. The structure is right behind the restaurant on Navy. Now on to the reason you’re reading this review, the food! Have I mentioned how yummy it is? I ordered the biscuits and gravy and an orange juice(it’s not fresh squeezed, if you’re wondering). Traditionally, the biscuits and gravy dish comes with eggs but I asked if they could substitute potatoes in place of the eggs and they did. Kudos on keeping your customer happy and improvising! The dish was flavorful, filling and delicious. My friend got it with eggs and agreed that although it was filling, it was surprisingly not dense. With good food and the option to get bottomless mimosas, this place tends to get packed! It’s a smaller restaurant so if you’re more than two people and you don’t plan on sitting at the bar, I highly recommend getting reservations. That being said, there’s a reason this place is one of LA’s top brunch spots. The food is scrumptious and the service is stellar.

This place is great for locals. And I feel a great representation of Venice, for visitors. We sat at the bar and had the grilled octopus(fantastic), lobster roll(fantastic could’ve eaten 3), and the grilled cheese w tomato soup(also fantastic the bread was amazing). A party had been there earlier and left a few cupcakes behind so I was treated to that by the staff which was beyond friendly and welcoming. Before I knew it I was playing jenga with a neighboring guest at the bar. It’s just that kind of environment …“come in, find a seat, and meet someone” type of vibe. the décor is amazing by the way. Nice tile, fancy booth seating, added elements of decoration like coils of rope and really Cool lighting. It was an overall 5 star experience for me and I hadnt even intended on eating there originally it just worked out that way. Great staff, great service, great food, great environment. Thanks!

It always pains me to give an average rating to a place I really, really wanted to love… but in this case, it’s necessary. I stopped in yesterday for my lunch break(I was going to go to Komodo, my usual Westside lunch joint, but was delighted to see The Anchor was open, since they usually open at 3PM and I’d been dying to try it). Let me break it down via what I ordered. Truffle lobster roll(16.00) — It’s The Anchor’s signature dish, and it’s not quite as tiny as other reviews stipulated — it’s a good appetizer for one person(I definitely don’t recommend splitting it). It was tasty overall, but between only a single itsy bitsy truffle shaving(I could hardly even taste it) and biting into bits of shell while I ate(which has never happened to me when I’ve eaten a lobster roll), I can’t say angels sang for me on this one. 3⁄5 stars. Mahi mahi tacos(8.00) — The mahi mahi was wonderful — fresh, lightly seasoned, perfectly grilled. However, the pickled cabbage was so overpowering(and not in a complimentary way) that I could hardly even taste the fish. Sometimes less is more. 3⁄5 stars. Brussels sprouts(6.00) — Very forgettable, unfortunately. Standard issue brussels sprouts, a tad undercooked for my taste. Still, it was pretty fresh and the sage/apple reduction was innovative, so I’ll give them credit for that. 3⁄5 stars. Service was A-OK, nothing stellar. The staff was largely indifferent to me(which I don’t mind and actually prefer to irritatingly hovering service). But the service was pretty slow considering I was one of 3 parties in the entire restaurant. So there you have it, friends: average across the board. I’m sad I won’t be adding this to my list of Westside favorites, and will resume my search for the perfect lobster roll.

I found this place on Unilocal.Looking at the pictures I’m thinking its a really big spacious restaurant but once we got their it was very tight close to other people. Their lobster roll was ok a little salty and it was lobster stuffed in a hot dog bun. I ordered a ship wreck drink. It was pretty watered down. After reading the reviews I really wanted to go here for dinner but after actually coming this place it’s good for a quick bite and some beer.

Stopped in on a Saturday night after reading some reviews on Unilocal.Honestly the pictures on Unilocal make this place look better than it is. The lobster roll is tiny, and for the price you expect a lot more. The«chicken n’ waffles» were a pretty original idea I must say but still left something to be desired. Maybe if it came with a side and not just a bowl of meat it might have been better. This place is ok. Although, in my opinion the price and the serving size do not add up. You shouldn’t leave a restaurant still hungry.

I’m sorry, but the Anchor was disappointing. The food was just ok, and the service was awful. I’m not sure if I just came on a bad day, but I definitely expected more from a 4-star Unilocal restaurant :( RESERVATIONS: We came here for dinner on Sunday night ~ 6:30pm. It was Valentine’s Day, so I was expecting it to be more crowded but not all the tables were full. Regardless, we still made reservations and got seated right away. AMBIENCE: I was surprised by how small the restaurant was inside. There is a bar and a few tables, but the majority of tables were outside. Luckily, they have heaters, but by the end of the night, my feet were freezing. I would recommend coming here on a warmer day, or try getting a seat inside. The ambience of the restaurant was also way more causal than I expected. It’s still a sit down restaurant, but not one of those fancy ones. The tables are wooden and fairly small. PARKING: They do not seem to have their own parking lot. We got lucky and found street parking a block away. Even on a Sunday, we had to pay the parking meter. FOOD: The food was pretty average. Nothing really stood out, and the items are on the pricier side/portions were on the smaller side as well. Between the two of us, my bf and I shared: — Daily Crudo — yellowtail with golden beets/watermelon radish/orange blossom honey($ 14) — I didn’t think much of it. My bf said it was good at first but later commented that the fish wasn’t the freshest. For $ 14, you only get like 4 pieces of yellowtail. The presentation of the dish was pretty, though. — Charred Octopus — peruvian potato/baby artichoke/pickled peppers/chimichurri($ 16) — One of the better dishes we had tonight– the flavor was good. However, the octopus was really soft/mushy for some reason and not chewy(which is what I’m used to). It was also kind of salty and burnt. — Anchor Lobster Roll — live main lobster/shaved black truffle($ 19) You can’t go wrong with lobster roll, but of course it’s kind of pricey and the portions are pretty small. They do add a few bits of truffle and some truffle oil in the lobster, which is nice. Not the best lobster roll I’ve had though. — Chicken and Waffles — Jidori Chicken/Buttermilk Batter/Chili Salt /Maple Glaze($ 14) we were expecting chicken breast, but this dish is actually just 4 chicken wings and 2 drumsticks that were heavily battered. Instead of waffles beneath the chicken, the«waffles» are supposed to be the batter wrapping the chicken. It was an unique concept and interesting to try, but I’d much rather just eat traditional chicken and waffles. The batter was also soaked with maple syrup, which made the dish pretty sweet. — Tri color cauliflower — pine nut/golden raisins /parsley($ 7) — Definitely the MOST disappointing dish of the night. I saw some reviewers say it was good, and I still can’t wrap my head around that. It’s literally some roasted cauliflower with absolutely no flavor. I can make a better cauliflower dish than this, and I’m not even good at cooking. I would skip this for sure, especially for $ 7. SERVICE: Our waiter was nice, but seemed to be very busy. They definitely need better communication between the servers and the kitchen. Many times, the server would bring out the wrong dish to us or other tables. Most of the food came out fast, but staggered(not everything at once) which I didn’t like because I usually like to take pics of all my food at once. Also they forgot our order of octopus, and we literally waited like 20 minutes for it to come. They brought out octopus for another table that got seated after us too. They took away our utensils thinking we were done, so when the octopus finally came, we didn’t have any forks or knives. We asked for some, but they forgot so we just stole a set of utensils from a neighboring table. We had a 30% blackboard eats deal which came with a free dessert(which turned out to be a cheesecake, tasted just like Costco’s). The waiter charged us for the dessert($ 6) and we almost didn’t catch it. Also, they almost didn’t even let us use our deal(since it was valentine’s day) even when my bf called them two times to confirm that we would be able to use it. Luckily they let us use it, because I would not pay full price for this meal. Even with the deal, I would not come back again.

I finally got a chance to try this place after driving by it hundreds of times. It’s a lot more casual than I expected. We had reservations for a party of 4, and they sat us outside on the patio, which is basically picnic tables. Luckily there was a heater behind us, because it was a chilly night. Our waitress was nice, full of energy and funny. One person in our group had purchased a deal on Guilt of 2 dinners for 2(4 dinners total). What was included was a bottle of wine per couple, a lobster roll per couple, 6 oysters per couple, 2 entrees per couple, and 1 dessert per couple. Not much of a wine selection, you basically got to choose from the house red or the house while. We chose the red, and luckily it was pretty good. The oysters were a good selection of various type of oysters. Apparently we got the last order… So too bad for anyone else who came in with this deal, I guess. The Lobster Rolls were pretty good, although they are a small appetizer size. For the entrees, there really isn’t much of a selection. I don’t eat red meat, so my options were the Chicken & Waffles, or the Salmon. I had seriously considered the Chicken & Waffles(I’ve never had that dish anywhere before), but luckily the table next to us overheard our discussion, and steered us away from them. Apparently they had ordered the Chicken & Waffles, and it was so bad, then sent it back. So I ordered the Salmon, which was actually pretty good. When it came time for dessert, the waitress told us that they just served the last one to another table… So this time, WE were out of luck. She offered us a Cheese Platter instead, but we declined — none of us are big fans of cheese for dessert. When the check came, not only did we NOT get a discount/refund for not getting a dessert, but the waitress charged us for the entrees — everything was supposed to be included as part of the package meal that was bought. The waitress tried to explain that it didn’t include the entrees, so we had to show her that it did(we had given her a printout of the package deal, so I guess she didn’t read it?). Then she said that the restaurant has so many package deals available that she can’t keep track. So finally she brought back a check that just charged us for tax… but again, that should have been all included in the package deal. The only thing we should have had to pay was gratuity. Overall the meal was just OK. I would not be in any hurry to go back.

I just want to start by saying that I don’t own a stake in this restaurant, but if I had the chance, I would because the food here is AMAZING. I came on a Thursday evening, and there was plenty of space, which was good for me because of the limited seating here. I had a deal through Blackboard Eats and was able to try a few dishes, which I will parse out below. The service was phenomenal. My water was always filled, and they came around often to check how we were doing. The manager/owner/server came by and was really warm and friendly. Great experience. The seating area is intimate and fun. This would actually be a perfect place for a casual date. 1. Braised Octopus: Get it. You get two long tentacles. These are cooked perfectly, without the rubbery texture you get when people don’t know how to cook octopus. It’s overlaid on a bed of greens and potatoes, which in themselves were really good. You get a smear of pureed avocados to top off the dish. Excellent. 2. Cauliflower: Outstanding. Simple classic dish done well. A perfect side dish. 3. Chicken and waffles: Very creative dish. A MUSTGET. Instead of putting fried chicken on waffles, they used waffle batter to bread the chicken. It was very crispy and the batter was just amazing. 4. Anchor Lobster roll: This is probably the best lobster roll I’ve had in LA. You get large chunks of lobster here without fillers to make it look like you’re getting more lobster. The toasted bread it’s in is delicious. This is one of their classics, so you have to get it! 5. Toffee Bread Pudding: MUSTGET. This was also amazing, with a large moist bread pudding with a strong toffee flavor. It’s serve warm with ice cream on the side. Every item I had was phenomenal. A must try.

The Anchor had so much potential, but turned out so mediocre. In sum, forgettable food and watered down drinks. I was there with a group of 4 friends so we all ordered our own entrees and a few starter plates to share. We got the grilled octopus, kale and quinoa salad, and green curry mussels to share – which were all enjoyable, although not stellar. Two of us ordered the truffle lobster roll – and I guess I should’ve checked Unilocal beforehand because I was shocked to see that there was one shaving of truffle on the roll. What a jip! The roll itself was pretty good… But had I known the truffle situation, I probably wouldn’t have ordered it for $ 19. One friend ordered the burger and I didn’t hear any comments, and another ordered the chicken and waffles and didn’t enjoy it much. The chicken was a sweet glaze and the waffle could’ve been a leggo my eggo. It was also served in a bowl rather than a plate, which makes it difficult to use a fork and knife – strange. For drinks, I started with an Anchor Mule, which was supposed to be ginger beer and vodka with some citrus. It tasted like ice. I stuck with beer the rest of the evening. Service was really nice, but the restaurant crowd wasn’t my scene. I guess it was a Friday evening… The restaurant itself is pretty small with maybe 2 tables indoors and bar seating. Most of the table seating is outdoors with heat lamps. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this place. Pass on the $ 8 parking too.

When this restaurant first opened, I heard so many good things about this place! I finally got the time to venture out to the west side and try The Anchor. There is very little street parking, so good luck with that! They do not seem to have a lot where you can validate. After sitting, we decided to order their famous truffled lobster sandwich, the kale and sesame quinoa salad, and a side of yogurt and fruit. The food came out quickly, but it was not up to par. The lobster roll bun was burnt, and it came with ONE piece of black truffle. I understand that truffle is expensive, but when you say truffle lobster roll, you should actually give truffle. We ended up splitting it into tiny pieces so that it would be more evenly distributed. The lobster roll itself was decent, but with the one piece of truffle and burnt bread, it wasn’t as appealing as it could have been. The kale and quinoa salad was okay, nothing exceptional. The fruit and yogurt tasted like a regular yogurt parfait, but for $ 6. Brunch was okay overall. I wouldn’t come back here– the food was non memorable, and the service was okay. Restaurant was a lot smaller than I expected, and it seems to be based more on outside seating– good for dogs!

Fun place to stop in for a drink and some food. They have a great selection of beers and the food was tasty. Ordered the lobster roll, the meatballs, and the shishito peppers. The bread on the lobster roll was really light and fluffy and the lobster was fresh and well seasoned. The meatballs were also super delicious, made with great quality meat and a tasty sauce on top. The peppers were a bit of a surprise as some were mild and some were super super hot. The waitress got us some sauces to dunk the peppers into, but we ended up leaving most of them. Service was fabulous! Our waitress was so nice and attentive. Overall this place has a great atmosphere, great food, and great drinks, will defo come here again.

We strolled in on a Thursday evening just minutes passed happy hours :((happy hours is from 3PM — 6PM). The hostess was missing, but we were helped out by who I assumed to be the manager or owner right away, when she spotted us. We went ahead and ordered Lobster Roll and Lobster Mac and Cheese. Verdict: Lobster Roll $ 18($ 16 during happy hours) — a little bit over-salted, but still delicious, albeit, a bit pricey for the size Lobster Mac and Cheese $ 16 — I was not happy with this selection in the slightest. It was super salty. I couldn’t taste anything but salt. It could just be that the chef got a little salt-happy this day, but it was no bueno. Service: while the owner/manager was super cheerful and efficient greeting and getting us seated, our actual server did not seem happy to see us. She was disconnected and annoyed. It was a chore for her to provide any services.

Love the Anchor! My friend and I wanted to get seafood around Venice and this place didn’t disappoint at all. Parking is on the side of the apartment complex, same entrance as the parking for CVS. Amazing lobster roll, ceviche crustini and avocado & toast!
