Venice West Salon

Sue has taken excellent care of my dark brown locks for the past several years. I sought her out after discovering that she’s one of the few hair stylists in the city who uses Organic Color Systems. Their products don’t contain ammonia & they’re better for the environment, as well as the health of the client (me), & the health of the stylist (Sue). WIN! The color is fantastic & long-​lasting. It covers my (many!) greys, while keeping my hair smooth & soft — it never looks or feels ‘processed.’ There is absolutely zero eye irritation or stinging/​burning of my scalp — & no nasty smells. YAY! Sue is also great with hair cuts — I’ve yet to leave her salon disappointed. Even my (very picky) mother insists on having Sue cut her hair, whenever she visits me from out-​of-​state. I think that says it all.

Love the Organic Color Susan uses on my hair. She has kept it in great condition and it has actually grown because of the TLC she apply’s to my hair!!! If you haven’t given your hair a break from to much ammonia, try Organic color from here…

Great friendly staff! This is a very nice place very nice price and a job very well done I recommend it to anyone and Susan is very nice I recommend her absolutely it’s the best place in Venice and they have organic highlighting service and color

. I had a good experience for my first time ever doing highlights so i’d definitely recommend this salon.
My only feedback — the blowout after was pretty mediocre. My highlights looked nice but my hair looked dead (flat).
i believe their regular prices aren’t that bad (comparatively) since they are in the heart of venice and all.

Cathy is absolutely amazing and a total sweetheart. Lovely venue and painless* waxing. I’ll definitely be returning on my yearly pilgrimage to Venice.

I’ve been going to Venice West Salon since it opened. Actually, I followed Christine there from her two previous salons. I love Christine and I love the salon. I hate noisy salons; this one is quiet (except for when the blow dryers are going). The music is mellow. The magazine selection is great. And the women who work there are all super friendly. Cathy does great, painless waxing. I’ve come to consider them my friends. I highly recommend the place. And the free parking and location two blocks from the beach are terrific.

The salon is low key, easy and gets the job done, no fuss no muss, and there is plenty of parking considering its about two blocks from the beach! Suzy ROCKs! A master at color, can fix anything and easily could be at any high end salon anywhere with her know-​how and insight! And the real surprise is you get a $ 400 color experience for about $ 150, a real value. I’m obviously a big fan and have been a loyal Suzy patron for more then a decade so if you want a chill master doing you’re hair-Suzy’s you’re go to gal at 818−808−9710 (there is a main line but you typically book directly with the stylist)

Just got back from the Venice West Salon and got an amazing, medium-​length shaggy do from Susan. Exactly what I wanted! I am so sad that it took me 7 years of living in Santa Monica to find out about her. I had long boring blah Marsha Brady locks and now I have a cool new look! The salon is unpretentious as others have noted here but then you are not paying for all the fancy shamcy décor you get at other places. Free parking in the back. Too bad I am moving out of state at the end of the month otherwise I would have finally found *my* stylist!

Made the appointment same day. Nobody was in the salon while I was there besides me and the hairdresser which was a little weird, but love the highlights I got. Definitely going back.

I loved the haircut I received from Susan. She did exactly what I asked, but definitely offered sugggestions that were awesome. My college daughters also got wonderful cuts from her which shows she is great with all ages and hair lengths. Parking in the back is a definite plus, especially in this area so close to the beach.

Awesome little salon! Very «venice boho» vibe which I love but with great stylists & colorists. I went in for a cut & root touch up & Sue did a wonderful job. I have now found an unpretentious salon that I can walk to. yay

Although the woman who cut my hair was nice, I was disappointed with the way it turned out. At first, I thought that it was satisfactory, but as it grew out slightly the shape was funny. My most recent visit to a new salon confirmed that my hair was uneven, the right side a half inch shorter than my left side. Maybe I went on a bad day, but I probably won’t be trying it again.

Booked an appointment on Lifebooker for this salon. I called to check the location and work out what the parking was like and was happily informed parking was free behind the salon. I turned up 10 mins early for my appointment to be disappointed!
When i arrived the Ladies at the front desk said that that i did not have an appointment which was not true as i had the email conformation on my phone. Then the lady who was meant to be doing my hair cut said that she could not do it and had already accepted another client, she also had clients after that. She then informed me that she had not confirmed the appointment which meant that it did not exist which again was not true, i showed her my conformation email, she persisted in saying that it was not confirmed and turned into a ridiculous discussion of I’m right and your wrong. She even went on to say that she does not blame me!!- i should hope not!
I left the salon then to receive a phone call saying that actually she had worked out that i had booked the appointment correctly and if i want then someone else could do the appointment. As 20 min had passed i was far away from the salon and it was hassle to go back.
I ended up going further up Main street to Lorraine colour bar and had a great experience with Patti, they also do a big discount on your first appointment. This salon was lively and friendly much better than Venice west…

I needed a haircut and a keratin treatment really badly. After seeing a deal for just a haircut at Venice West Salon on Lifebooker, I went ahead and emailed Sue Putnam to ask about getting both done.
Sue couldn’t have been nicer, and after asking a few quick questions about my hair, offered me a great deal on both together! She was great — I was able to set up my entire appointment and get all my questions answered via email. Sue even told me to park in the back — not to bother with the meters.
The salon is clean and charming, great magazine selection (super important) and you have a great view of Main Street. My keratin treatment took 3 hours and Sue was super careful. As for the haircut — she’s a stylist who asks what you want and then actually listens! I told her I wanted all my split ends chopped — she confirmed that I’d actually be cutting a good couple of inches off — and then did a good job of updating my basic layers and making sure I was happy with the length. My hair looks healthy and frizz free now.
So happy to have found a great West Side salon with reasonable prices!
