Fun little store to go to. For those who hit the gym. they carry Tiger Balm here! They have a wide variety of things. Customer service was great. The lady working was happy to help me and answered all my questions. She diffinitly knows her stuff. She was there to help me. She wasnt trying to push a random product to make a sale. DIFFINITLYSTOPBY!!!

Stopped in today for the first time to find a special Asian sauce for a recipe. They had the sauce and several more plus a nice variety of foods I’d like to try cooking. Very nice clerk. Easy in and out. Will shop there again.

It’s a nice little market… but lacking many staples. It is missing very basic items… like bean curd pouches, liter bottles of green tea and boxed curry mixes, use to be able to get these at mamaya… hopefully they can get a few additional items so I can buy local.

In Ventura, there are not many choices for finding Asian food items. There are a few scattered little shops here and there but nothing major. I went on a hunt for Sinigang soup mix aka Tamarind soup mix. I live in Santa Paula, and I could not find it anywhere, and I didn’t want to have to drive all the way to Oxnard, even though they have a lot of Asian markets, I just didn’t want to have to do the drive. So, I decided to hunt for it in Ventura, I went to several stores, and while many of them carried a good selection of Asian food items, they didn’t carry my beloved Sinigong soup mix. That is until I happened into the Asian American Market. I was only in there about a minute before I found it! I was so overjoyed! I grabbed three packages and a package of another really good soup mix that I was looking for and went straight to the register! I was so completely thrilled you have no idea! It’s not a market with meat and vegetables, but it is a little convenience store that caters to Asian recipes. You can get all kinds of stuff here for your recipes, as long as the goods you are looking for are canned or dry or refrigerated/frozen. They have a really great selection. I saw everything from Filipino and Vietnamese to Korean and Japanese and Indian. Chinese stuff too! They even have some stuff that I consider«Chamorro» from the Island of Guam, which made me smile from ear to ear! My boyfriend is Chamorro and we cook a lot of asian style dishes. I am going back there soon to stock up on supplies! I am thrilled to have found this little hidden gem! Thank you for being in business! I really appreciate your shop and all of the items you carry! Thank you! By the way the soup mix was a really good price! Lower than I’ve seen it in some other stores!

I come here all the time bc it’s right around the corner and I was sucked in by the name at first. On our 1st visit, my brother bet me that they’d have more liquor than asian items I’d want. Even though he was right, there’s still a lot of other snacks I like there. The owner and the employee are super nice. I always have a cordial visit.

Debit and credit card costs have to be paid by someone(like the owner). The treasure is that there exist only one other place for asian stuff and that’s down on Main near the mall. All the critics obviously don’t buy asian food. I’ve become hooked on nori!

Be careful. They charge an extra fee if you spend under $ 10 and want to put it on debit/credit. If they do this to you please make sure to report them to your card holder.

I was clutching my metal scrub brush, my coffee filters, and my package of mung beans when the man in line in front of me fell over. I jumped backward. «Fell asleep.» he mumbled, then struggled to get up. After that he started shaking like Tyrone Biggums. The guy behind the counter, the owner, he said, «Uh, I don’t think that’s lack of sleep… I think you got something else going on…» Ballsy! I like this market. They carry the basics that get an asian/islander through the night. No Szechwan peppers [but trader joe’s didn’t have them either]… but he’s got rice-paper springroll wrappers, nori, wasabi, naan bread, Indian sauces, satay sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, oriental plastic soup bowls, and so much more… and the American side is your typical stuff like little Vienna dingers, paper towels, TP, soap, water, juices, beer, notebooks… etc. I like that the shop owner is friendly, but I have a feeling he’d climb over the counter and beat you with a bat if you tried to F with him! So don’t do that. Also, there’s a record store next door! Santa Clara is a very cute and safe-feeling street, but Ventura is known for its homeless population so these things are bound to happen. Either way… I’ll definitely be back.

This can barely pass for a convenient store and not much more. Sure they had a shelf of Thai stuff, a shelf of Japanese/Chinese stuff, and shelf of Middle Eastern stuff and the typical convenience store stuff like cold sodas and candies but if you are looking for a quality«Asian» market, this isn’t it. I’m still searching for what I’m used to and haven’t found one in this area. They don’t have much of fresh stuff like produce and seafood. They didn’t have much of frozen stuff either. It was a complete waste of gas looking for this place which is in such a random place to begin with. It’s in a neighborhood with nothing else but this store, really…

They sell this crazy paper, I think it’s called burning-paper, it’s yellowish with a gold or silver square in the middle and a red stripe across it. Well, whatever it’s traditional use, it makes great origami paper if you cut it or just good note paper because when the notes start to clutter up your house, it doesn’t look like shit. I have no idea where else to get that stuff and I miss it. They also sell tons of other weird things like banana ketchup. I’m sure they still sell the usual corner market booze and freaky drug paraphanelia too. Nice owners, I forget their names.
