This is the only and I say only Original Tommy’s north of Los Angeles, this is the last frontier!!! I been eating Tommy’s since 1986, my auntie lives in Los Angeles Historic Filipino town and every time we went to LA we always had Winchels donuts, Original Tommy’s and watch the Lakers Game!!! It’s really a burger I can have twice a month, it’s just a food fix for me when I’m craving that chili cheese melting inside with 2 patties tomato, pickles and onions!!! the fries are thick fries and a large drink comes with every order… Tommy’s is truly a taste of a Los Angeles in Ventura County!!!

Terrible service — they got my order wrong, even though I had the worker read it back when I ordered. Food is gross! Very disappointing experience.

Hated it! Burger had soggy buns and the chili is terrible! Fries were even worse! Heard about Tommy’s for years and once I tried it realized I was never missing anything! In-and-Out is way better than Tommy’s will ever be.

This Tommy’s burger was one of the best I’ve had in all locations that I have been too. The Chilli was exceptional on my fries and burger, the place was very clean and the manager Sal is great. The food was good and the prices are very fair. Definitely a great experience.

I once requested to stop here for a midnight snack after a big dinner, I was intoxicated so what did I know, anyways my date of the night said it wasn’t that good and she refused to stop here. so I got mad. child style. Well.after trying it… I called her to apologize and thank her for her wise decision, this is not my type of place, drunk or sober. The location is new and clean. I’m sure the health inspector gave them an A, but that is where the good grades stop. Customer service: Normal fast food service in Ventura County, meaning robotic pretty much. Not high on personality but as long as they didn’t spit a lugee in my fries, I can accept that Food: Double chili burger– The chili was not anything special, tasted reheated and premade which is what I’m guessing this is, no exclusivity. It’s a big portion of it and honestly a few bites in I decided to take the top patty off leaving the one without chili to eat.saltless.not sure if they leave the chili ones unsalted on purpose because of the chili sodium, but it had no taste. The burger lacked the personality that the service did as well. 1.5÷5 Fries– These were okay, decent, sure I had to add salt but I didn’t have to play with these much to get them to how I like them, but only alright 2.5÷5 There you have it, avoid it, Ventura has a habit, fatburger and red robin. much better fast foodish options if you want something chain like.

We were 45 minutes early for an appointment at the animal hospital down the road and spotted Tommy’s on the corner. A quick check of Unilocal did not disqualify it so in we went. Getting into the parking lot and then parking was a nightmare as many have reported. But once inside we had our order was quickly taken. Our number was called shortly after I checked in here on Unilocal.I had the chilli burger. One daughter had here standard hamburger, tomato only. The other daughter had a burger with everything. My wife had the special burger on the poster with the hot peppers. We had an order of fries plus an order of chilli fries. The total? Under 20 dollars. I couldn’t believe it. I put away the credit card and hand her the only 20 in my wallet plus a couple of dollars for a tip since they didn’t have a tip jar. The food was pretty much what everyone describes it as. Greasy, gooey and tasty. The daughter who had the plain burger was unimpressed but those of us with the chilli burgers were much happier. I don’t know what can people think their chilli came out of but would love to know so I could buy some. It isn’t like any caned chilli I have ever had. The patties were smashed thin to fill the bun and as such were thin. But, upgrading to a double is only 50 cents more on a really cheap burger so if paper thin patties offend you, go for the double or triple at 50 cents a slice. The plain fries were excellent. The chilli fries were even better. These are NOT gourmet California burgers. This are NOT health food. You can see the grease leaking out of the burgers and the chilli fries. This is good, down to earth, greasy fast food. And, there is nothing wrong with good old, down to earth, greasy fast food in moderation. Make no mistake, the off the menu chilli burger at the original Habit in Goleta is better, but if you gotta have a chilli burger and spot a Tommy’s, it is worth the stop.

Been a lover of Tommy’s for over 40 years. It’s still the best chili burger available! This location looks like an In-n-Out on the inside — very clean and spacious. This time I tried their Classic Double with 1000 Island dressing and no chili. A first for me! It was really tasty! The only complaint I have is the slow service as it took about 5 minutes for my food to come up(before noon on Sunday) — they were understaffed. There is a drive-thru too so there could have been several orders going through at the same time. Overall it is always a treat to go to Tommy’s!

The last time I had a Tommy’s Double Cheeseburger w/Chili was 1984. My best buddy was at USC, and I came in for a wknd road trip from a much better PAC10 school(ASU). Anyway, after a night of partying, it was a midnight run to Tommy’s. Questionable neighborhood and instant heartburn aside, damn good drinking grub! Fast forward several decades, and I return, albeit in a safer neighborhood and sober. Nonetheless, the burger hasn’t changed, and the hallmark remains the chili. .. damn tasty. I think I feel a little indigestion coming on, too! Cheers! RS

The Skinny: Late night cravings for chili cheese fries or burgers? Original Tommy’s hits the spot. Environment: Well… interesting to say that even though my summary above makes it sound great, I would have to start by saying the environment feels a little dirty. The place reminds me of a particular In N Out that nobody likes going to in OC, but the thing is the environment doesn’t make or break a fast food joint. Also, I usually go here past midnight anyway and the environment wouldn’t matter at that point im a drive thru. Service: Always speedy, always friendly. Love their quick attention and actually putting the«fast» in «fast food». Not much else to say. Food: Oh my gosh, when you are drinking and it is late night and you got fast food cravings, maaaan those chili cheese fries hit the spot! They are freshly made each time and the chili is not over-«beanafied» like some other places. Burgers here are also amazing and have that hole-in-the-wall feel to it. Also, you can request to have them cut up the beef patty and put it in with the chili cheese fries to make it a pseudo carne asada fries(but with ground beef) which is damn stellar, too. Overall: 4⁄5 With not many options for food past 11 pm around the Ventura area, Original Tommy’s keeps themselves pretty up there with their unique brand of fast food. It’s almost like they purposely made their food aimed at those who have had a few drinks.

I keep driving by thinking some day I should try Tommy’s and yesterday was finally the day. My sona and I had a full day of yard work ahead of us so we decided to fill up. I had a regular cheese burger and he had the original chili cheese burger along with an order of fries and a soda. Total cost $ 12 — not too bad. I have to say, on sight I wasn’t sure how he was going to eat that burger. He said he thought the same thing as it looked very messy. He said it was exactly the right amount of chili to burger ratio and it was very good. My cheese burger was very good to. I would say up there with In n Out or The Habit. Fries were hot and crisp too. I am definitely going to bring my hubby here some day.

People either LOVE Tommy’s or HATE it… I was raised in LA, so I have been eating Tommy’s since I was a little kid. My grandmother used to take me to the original Tommy’s on Rampart, when it was a little burger stand on the corner. I remember you would stand in line, go through and tell the cooks what kind of burger you wanted. then you moved on to the bags of potato chips, then the soda cooler, where they had grape soda, cola, root beer, etc… in cans. The original Tommy’s had no fries. By the time you got to the end, your food was ready. Years later, Tommy’s was the place to go for a «drunk burger» after partying in LA. The location in Oxnard opened a couple of years ago. when I saw the sign, I was drooling for months, until they opened. Most people I talked to in Ventura had never heard of it… Ok, enough about me. If you’re not from LA and you have never had Tommy’s before, you might be in for a surprise. The burgers are sloppy and greasy and messy… BUTFRICKINGREAT. You will need to grab lots of paper towels from the dispenser before you sit down to eat. The burger patties are thin, the chili is thick and greasy and they put a fat ass slice of fresh tomato on top. All this equals = around 1200 calories of pure evil sin :) So worth it though. Give it a try… Definitely a «gut bomb» but to me… it’s disgustingly delicious

Chili, chili, chili what more can you ask for since it is the best chili around. The triple cheeseburger with melting cheese surrounded by chili, pickles and tomato oh and did I forget the onions. Don’t forget to order the chili cheese fries smothered in chili.
