My 19 month old HATES having his hair cut but our experience today was WONDERFUL! Kelsey was his stylist and after I forewarned her that he would probably cry the whole time she took the time to let him get comfortable and ease him into the process. She blew bubbles, gave him a ball to play with, and played peek-a-boo with the gown before putting it on him so he didn’t freak out. She had such a great personality and it was just what my son needed to keep him calm during the haircut! I didn’t have as much luck the last time I went here but it was a busy Saturday and I had a different stylist. I would highly recommend Kelsey if you go to this KidSnips location!

We had an appointment and still had to wait over 30 minutes. Would never go back. Waste of time. How hard is it to cut hair on time?

Since going all suburban last November, finding services like haircuts has been a bit tricky. For 6 years, I went to the same salon within walking distance of our old condo(holla Hairitcs!). Now in the burbs, we’ve been on the hunt for some place to cut our son’s fast growing hair. We had a horrible experience at a nearby Supercuts. My husband came home tired and upset after that haircut. While at the mall to pick up sheets for our new bed, we went into Kidsnips to ask about appointments and haircut prices. The base haircut price is reasonable for a kid($ 18), walk ins available, and easy access to appointments. It was enough to sell me on it. We booked an appointment for the next day. I figured that anything had to be better than the last haircut. My husband and eldest son went to Kidsnips while I took care of our younger dude. Once we got to the salon, my eldest was focused on watching Chuggington in the airplane chair while my husband gave some direction on the haircut. The salon itself is a mix of toy store and salon with toys in a child’s reach. Thanks for that Kidsnips(sarcasm font). My son’s haircut turned out pretty great. It was much better than the previous one. Jennifer knew how to tame my son’s double crown cowlicks short of buzzing them down completely. Both my husband and I were pretty satisfied with the haircut. I think it’s safe to say that we’ll return here for more kid’s haircuts. It’s gimmicky as hell, but they did a great haircut for a reasonable price.

The staff here is nicer than Snippet’s Mini Cuts at the Northbrook mall. However, the lady who cut my son’s hair, as nice as she was, definitely did not do a good job. It wasn’t obvious right after my son’s haircut because his hair was wet but my gosh, it was so uneven! I don’t understand why we can’t find someone in the north shore who can actually cut my son’s hair! Before we moved here, we took my son to one place only and we never had a problem. We went to the same place since his first haircut and I even took my son for his last haircut there before we moved to IL. Unfortunately, our experience here has been really disappointing! I don’t want to sound mean but did these people actually go to school to learn how to properly cut hair? Did they earn a license? Or do these establishments just hire whoever thinks they can cut a child’s hair?! I am giving this place three stars because they let the child pick a DVD to watch, they give the kids balloons and toys after the haircut and the most important of all is that the staff is nice — this is important to me because I noticed that there are not a lot of nice people around here. However, even having said all these, I still don’t feel comfortable coming back. *sigh*

Love this place! My son had two haircuts here. The stylists are warm, accommodating and work quickly. The store is clean and inviting, with an array of toys and treasures for sale. I’ve only been there during the week but I noticed that both times the place was empty so no wait– we just walked in. Tuesdays you get a cut for 5 dollars!

My son has been going to Jennifer for almost two years now and we wouldn’t have it any other way! My son absolutely loves her and is always so excited to go see her. She is the only person that is allowed to cut his hair, so if her schedule doesn’t work with ours, we wait. We were so happy for her when we found out she got promoted to Assistant Manager at this store. We were even more excited because she is still cutting hair! We love her and every haircut she gives our son!

Ms. Jennifer is fantastic! We have been taking our now 8 year old twins to her since their first haircuts at age 2. My cousin and several neighbors had great experiences with Ms Jennifer and recommended her to us. Our kids(and we) fell in love with her! Not only does she make great suggestions on hairstyles for our daughter, but also is efficient, extremely friendly and personable and is equally as talented in cutting our sons shorter hair(and removing his terrible cowlicks). We all love seeing her when we come in to Kid Snips and have never gone anywhere else. She received a well deserved promotion to Assistant Manager of the Vernon Hills store, but luckily she is still cutting hair! Thanks Ms. Jennifer for your hard work and devotion to your craft. See you in a month for the twins next haircut!

We were going to take our 14 month old son here for his first haircut because we wanted a good experience. Granted it was 4p on a Saturday, but the service we received was the pits! We checked in and had to wait for 30 minutes, which is acceptable. When we came back for our appointment the lady at the desk acted like she didnt have time for us. She mentioned we needed to go pick out a movie, but I couldn’t understand what she said, I had to say excuse me 5 times to the other lady behind the desk to get her attention while she was on her phone to see what we were suppose to do next. These are«kid friendly» people? I don’t think so. After looking around I noticed one parent holding his daughter while she was getting her haircut, the parent had a hair«cape» on, but the daughter only had her clothes, so hair was going all over her… Really? After noticing the lack of energy displayed by everyone at the location, we opted to cancel our appointment and leave. We will not be going back to this location.

My son got a great first haircut from Miss Kelly. My daughter got a terrible haircut from another stylist whose name I cannot remember. She suggested layers, then cut them, then told me it was a mistake because her hair was too thin and not to let anyone do that again. Thanks for the advice… Make an appt. with Kelly.

Disclaimer: I don’t have children and so have a low threshold for gimmicks aimed at children. As a child, I got my haircut at the same salon where my mom went, and I turned out(mostly) okay. I accompanied my best friend here for her son’s first haircut just before his first birthday. She was in need of a little emotional support for this milestone, and her husband decided I was better equipped to play that part. They were busy when we went in and asked us to come back in 30 minutes. When we came back, they were ready. They asked us to pick out a movie for the kidlet to watch and gave my best friend a clip board with a form for her to complete. The haircut went well — the kidlet is exceptionally well-behaved in most scenarios; this wasn’t an exception. The stylist was kind and clearly knew some tricks for getting him to do what she needed, like sliding the DVD case near his feet to catch his attention and make him look down while she trimmed his nape. They keep a lock of hair to commemorate the special event(though I have to say the stylist was a bit careless with that — she tossed the lock of hair on the desk and quite a bit of it was lost through her moving around and ultimately putting the DVD case on top of it). All of that said, the kidlet looked cute. $ 18 seemed steep. And I worry that we’re creating a culture of kids not needing to learn to behave appropriately in places because we create places that don’t teach them behavioral skills… but that’s an entirely different conversation.

I’d give Kidsnips as a whole 3 stars, but I’m giving it an extra star because I’m a big fan of the stylist we see — Becca. She is super friendly, does a great job both with interacting with the kids and with cutting their hair. My son’s hair just always grows out better when Becca cuts it than anyone else. Kidsnips is a little obnoxious in and of itself — like getting your hair cut in K-B Toys. But we’ve tried going to a «regular» place and our son isn’t ready for that. All the kiddy distractions help him feel comfortable and willing to get his hair cut. Kids get prizes after the cut and they do a really nice job w/first hair cuts — you get a photo, lock of hair and certificate. Cuts are probably a little overpriced but actually with how hard it is to cut a wiggly kid’s hair its probably worth it.
