Fun easy going bar. Staff is very friendly, always a good time. Food is pretty good here too for bar food

After an awesome day at Action Park with friends we were hungry and wanted a place to chill and discuss the day. I volunteered my husband to find us a place using his Unilocal skills.
With outdoor seating, a fairly diverse menu, and close proximity, the Vernon Inn fit the bill. Less than 2 miles away and on the way home, we pulled into the lot and made our way to the back bar and deck area. A square bar mostly filled with locals enjoying happy hour and a large deck area along the back. We let the locals enjoy the bar and sat up on the deck. Our server came over after a very short wait and took our drink order. The bar does have the usual variety on tap but a fairly diverse bottle list. The menu has a large amount of apps and entrée items. It is mostly bar food fare with limited vegetarian options.
The husband had a massively huge turkey burger and I had a portobello mushroom burger, both were $ 9.99. The portobello burger came as a wrap and that was a huge disappointment. It wasn’t nearly as good as being on a burger bun. One of my friends ordered the cheese quesadilla and asked for extra veggies inside, something other than just tomatoes and less cheese. What she got was extra cheese and barely any other veggies with mostly tomatoes. I didn’t think her order was that complicated, and we saw on the menu there were dishes with other veggies, so we knew other veggies were available in the kitchen. Not sure why her request couldn’t be executed correctly. Not one to complain, she made the best of it.
Service was good, but what set our server apart was how she recognized we were three couples and offered to separate the bill 3 ways. It made it extra easy for us to settle up.
We enjoyed playing the touchtunes jukebox outside, since there was no other music playing. The regulars seem to have a few favorite songs that they play and when our music came on, the volume went way down and was never turned back up. When we asked if the music could be made a little louder, our server told us that the bartender said it doesn’t go any louder, which was an outward lie and pretty funny.
This is a 2 – 3 star place. Could it be more? Absolutely. Upgrade the menu and ingredients, slightly speed up service, and up the volume on the music just a bit (for everyone, not just barfly Billy).

Subpar service, staff smoking outside. Had to track down waitress to take an order when patrons seated after us were served. Staff not aware of their own menu options. Overall a lackluster experience.

Went there last night with coworkers and had a terrible experience. I have been to the inn several times, and can say I’ve never had an excellent experience. The food is decent but other than that it’s nothing special. The service is terrible. You can expect to not get your food for about 45 min after getting there, sometimes longer. Last night the waitress made us feel so unwelcome. We were a large party and she kept asking us things like «I’m not going to have to deal w separate checks am I?» My food came out about 5 minutes after everyone else’s and instead of a sincere apology I got «sorry but this party really messed up the whole place.» I wish we could have not given her a tip, but unfortunately gratuity was included. If you have another option, don’t go here.

Have been there for the first times in the past month. My 2 visits were OK/​good. Service was friendly and timely. Food was what I would expect in the Bar in the woods. Locals where your typical conservative (Obama a communists) types, at least the bar had sports on (not news). 70s tunes was the music of the day. Worth a stop.

Unilocal* has a habit of trowing out 1 Star reviews automatically. So I had to give this place 2 stars, although it did not rate either one. This place is Horrible. If you go to the UNFILTERED reviews you will see that I am not the only person who thinks that the BEERTenders deserve to be replaced. They are there only to serve their friends.
If you are not their friend, you will wait for service.

Unless you are friends with the bartenders, expect to wait a while. Even if you are a regular.

A local bar but friendly to visitors

I don’t go here for the food. It’s 2 star at best. Nothing is bad mind you, but nothing is good either. I go here because there is almost nothing else in Highland Lakes that compares! Reasonable burger, great waitresses. They just redid their menu so perhaps there will be an improvement– We shall see. Good outdoor bar in the summertime with some music. $ 1.00 Margaritas on Monday nites-I’d rather pay 5’xs more for better one’s but… I know I’m bad-​mouthing but it’s Vernon we’re talking about. OH GOD I wish they had better food!

Good food and beer. Summer time this place seems to be pretty lively on the weekends based on the outside bar in the back. Sundays get especially lively since alot of the bikers drop by and also the mens softball league (which is fairly large in vernon) all seem to end up there all day long.

I was in town skiing so I figured I’d try the food here, as it was perhaps the ONLY restaurant I saw. Well maybe there were 1 or 2 others, but they looked terrible and empty. I walked in to this place and the bar was packed, too packed for my taste. Lots of locals, just standing around listening to pop music, was strange and I was bored just looking at them. The food was absolutely disgusting. Perhaps the worst meal I’ve ever had. Really. Started with the jalepeno popers, which were typical fried frozen crap. They did not taste all that bad, except for the fact that they were swimming in oil. Its as if instead of frying them, they decided to give them a slow oil bath. There was a pool of oil under each one. Disgusting! Next I had the ribs, wow, just horrible. They were either old, or deep fried, or something off, because the meat looked broken and very dried out. They were swimming in a gross BBQ sauce… not grilled with the sauce, but cooked, thrown on the plate, then a heaping pile of sauce was thrown on. They were the fattiest ribs I’ve ever had. The fries were oily, but the best part of the meal. It was not cheap either and my company did not enjoy their prime rib at all, it was way over salted. Horrible, pathetic food, cooked by someone who clearly does not care what they serve. Leave this place to the locals and keep on driving!

This place has a great Tiki bar out back. Awesome on a hot summer’s night with a band going. However town noise ordanance requires the band shut down at 10pm. The service here is slow but thats because there are so many people. On a band night it is often difficult to find parking. The young crowd hangs here on Fri and Sat nights. The food is excellent for bar food. It would be nice to see some young hot bartenders.
