Good place with clean shisha. Not much of a décor, but who cares? ;)

This was always one of my favorite places to go to for hookah. It has interesting crowd of Middle Eastern people watching Al Jazeera on TV along with a mix of high school/college kids too young for the bars. They have multiple flavors of hookah all at reasonable prices and they let you sit down for hours. It’s a great place to meet up with friends to catch up and play cards. The shwarma is good, but don’t get the hummus, really bland and the bread was stale. It gets really packed on the weekend nights so be prepared to wait for a table.

I like to get food here for carryout occasionally. I usually get their meza platters especially their hummus and falafel. Just tried their chicken Sherwerma and it was pretty good. Not a fan of their eggplant dip.

I was in the mood for some kabobs, turned to Unilocal which led me here. Bad call(or bad night). The place is filled with smoke(I knew that coming in, so I ordered take out). The prices were more than listed here. Chicken and Lamb kabob $ 27(with rice, pita and side salad). The chicken had a decent flavor, but the lamb was bland. Both were dry and overcooked.

Years ago my friend Mark took me here for dinner. I had the chicken schwerma(sp?) Platter and was hooked. I normally grab it to go — the salad and bread I eat day 1 and enjoy the remaining chicken and rice for lunch the next day. The garlic ‘spread’ on the side is my addiction — great stuff! This is a place frequented by soccer(er Futbol) fans so the games are always on. The only downside is that hookah pipes are abundant and always present — hence why I mainly order takeout. If you choose to stay in and dine you were forewarned!

My friends and I made this place a Sunday ritual for a good two years or so. Classy? No Superior Service? No Good food and quality Hookah? Big Fat YES! Go and designate yourself a table amidst the predominantly middle eastern, middle aged men. They’ll glance up from their backgammon, sure, but won’t be staring you down the whole time you’re there. Get yourself a plate of Hunters Chicken if you’re in the mood for some cilantro(or get a gianormous platter if you’re there with a friend) and get a hookah and you’ll find yourself hunkering down for a relaxing four(sometimes six) hours of nothingness. The coals and tobacco don’t even compare to stuff I’ve experienced around Turkey(and I’ve experienced PLENTY of places), but for NOVA, this place is a solid four stars.

3 ½ stars average! I rate this a 4 for lunch and a 3 for any other time – for the shawarma, the lubiyya bil zayt(green beans w/tomato sauce, onions, and garlic), and the specials alone. the ambience isn’t much, to say the least. in fact it’s quite the«hole in the wall». But for all it’s aesthetic shortcomings, its“specials” are consistently delicious and so authentic-ma’looba(or maqlooba, a very middle class home served meal with layered eggplant rice and lamb with a yogurt sauce) rocks!!! I also love their qoosa mahshi(stuffed Magda zucchini with lamb, spices, pinenuts, and rice served with a piquant tomato broth); again better than lebanese taverna to me because its made w/meat! Yummy! That’s why I give it a bit more generous rating despite the Hot, noisy concrete-floor environment reeking of Houka double apple. I dont recommend eating inside for families, attractive females, or high-brow colleagues. I like to order TOGO if its in the evenings, and would recommend that Western ladies take a male friend if they have a problem being oggled by the mostly male clientele after 7pm. Heck, my mother wore a skirt and mentioned the«appreciative looks» she received and she’s 80! :-). Most folks who come late love to smoke the houka rather than eat. Those undaunted by curious eyes may enjoy watching the interaction of a younger, laid-back middle-class maqha environment in the evenings when the place is kicking, but that’s not really my scene. I like to grab the big trays of mixed mezza when I don’t feel like cooking for friends, but when I’m eating alone at home, nothing beats the savory, home-cooked authentic Palestinian/Lebanese feel of the«special of the day». Thanks to the owners for keeping this place so unabashedly authentic!

This is my first time at this place and my first time eating Lebanese food. We called on the phone to place an order for pickup. The man on the phone was not friendly and actually sounded annoyed when I called to place my order. The chicken was really good with the white sauce and the rice was good. The order came with a white sauce(made with garlic and I’m not sure what else) that I dipped the chicken in. The order came with a bland salad and a big piece of stale pita bread. Overall I’d say this place is good but nothing great. I won’t be back.

Love this place. Thats probably why i’m here most nights of the week. Great Kabobs, chicken is my fave. The hummus and tabouleh are my fave snack while playing cards and sipping mint tea Yum. The staff is great, super attentive and fast. The ambiance is very old world, old men smoking and playing dominos — or some other card game i’ve yet to figure out. There are regulars that are there everyday and just make the place feel kinda cozy. Great late night food too. They’ll serve food as late as 1:30AM

This place has great food and a cozy atmosphere… If you are looking for a place to take your date, this is not the restaurant for you, but if you want great middle eastern, Mediterranean food, as well as good hookah, you will love this place.

Nice to know that some things don’t change, this was my favorite hookah hotspot to frequent with Kaz before uni. As a result, LZ is the gold standard I compare all hookah bars to, despite its lack of frills. A simple café layout with side benches and a very laid back, hole-in-the-wall feel. Service is understandably more aloof towards the younger crowds, and late at night the traditional male demographic does dominate. Parking’s a lot harder to secure than it used to be with its explosion in popularity. Still, I’ve never felt rushed or unwelcome, and we’ve spent countless hours talking and relaxing here since aimless midnight driving gets expensive right quick.

Went here today after playing some basketball. This place is very very good. It’s definitely a hole in the wall but their food is really good. Got the chicken shwarama combo with rice and salad. It was $ 10 and there was a ton of food. It took every ounce of me to finish it all, and that’s not normally the case, that’s how big the portions are. They gave a ton of chicken and it was seasoned pretty well. Meat seemed fresh and the rice was pretty good and didn’t stick together. The lady taking the order was very friendly and food came out pretty quick. I’m not normally a fan of Lebanese food(b/c I think it’s too bland) but this place is a place that I’d definitely come back to.

I grew up eating Lebanese food, though unfortunately there aren’t many Lebanese restaurants where I live. Luckily, I travel to VA frequently and can get my fix at Lebnan Zaman. This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall type place. No frills atmosphere, loud, hot, and somewhat poor service… oh, but the food! My favorite Lebanese dish is Shish Taouk, which is boringly labeled«Chicken Kabob» on the menu. Cooked and seasoned just right, the chicken chunks were juicy and oh-so-flavorful. I couldn’t get enough of the rice and the hummus was the best garlicky goodness I have ever had. If you like lamb try the lamb kabob — it is not gamey and is spiced just right. Sandwiches range from $ 5-$ 8 and dinner platters range from $ 7-$ 11.

My boyfriend and I recently moved to the Fairfax area. One day after a long afternoon of grocery shopping and errand running, we decided to pop in Rose Kabob. Cory has been their previously with a former co worker and raved about the food. I have had my fair share of authentic middle eastern food, between my friends whose parents are amazing cooks and my travels in Europe, so I have a good idea of what is a tasty Gyro or Shawarma. And Rose Kabob lived up to my expectations! The meat was tender, the sauces were authentic and the portion size was on point. After a long night of going out in DC, the food was exactly what we needed! The service was very prompt. I love the atmosphere of people watching Sunday night football, smoking hookah and drinking tea. Did I mention the prices were totally reasonable??? Great place in Vienna and we are happy patrons who will dine there often!

My family and I were looking for an interesting place to eat. The food was good, my falafel was tasty. My folks demolished the lamb. Even the hookah smoke was good, a sweet heady smell. The décor was very plain, and fountain soda and french fries weren’t what I was expecting with my meal, but it was still a good experience.

Midnight Hunger Pangs? Despair not my friends, Lebnan Zaman to the rescue! :) :) So, this is THE place when ur super hungry in the middle of the night, they close at 2:00. yayyy! Unilocaled for a place open at that hour, close to home, and so we got Zaman. Reached here just to find the parking lot FULL. like goddamn packed with cars, in the middle of the night, when everything else around was just oh-so-dead! It has this unassuming road side diner look, But please be aware, this place seemed to me, a predominantly MALE Hang Out Zone! I’ve been here twice now, after 12:00 midnight, and found nothing but males hanging around, doing Hookah! They have good hookah supposedly.(Shall have to go there with my Hookah savvy frenz some day. I am allergic to all the smoke myself though!) So anyways, my review is for the food! It was awesome! Fresh warm Pita, hummus generously drizzled with good ol’ olive oil and warm spinach pies. I am NOT a fan of their spinach pies, they were like weird versions of the Greek Spanakopita. The chicken skewers and lamb skewers. OUTOFTHISWORLD! The best thing I liked here though was the RICE! It was sooo yummy! It was cooked with Semolina noodles, yeah yeah. beat that. rice and noodles, cooked together. Yet the rice was smooth and fluffy, not a sticky mass most places tend to serve. And this is at midnight! Not at lunch or dinner, when there are so many people around but at midnight, when people rarely come to eat(I mean barring a few hungry souls like me! :p) The sodas are free refills, and the place is so unassumingly inexpensive! WHAT more do I need at midnight?!! :p The only thing that creeped my out was the absense of women! I stuck real close to my male fren… just cuz the overt flow of testosterone was making me uncomfortable! Anyways, I came out a happy, well fed soul, ready to snuggle back into my warm bed. yayyyyy for this place! Must visit it again.

This place is totally different from a few years ago. The people working there don’t know what’s going on(how to input menu items in the register, making the food very differently, not the same level of service). I went there for lunch, when there is usually a decent amount of people, and it was empty. I think others have also realized that its not as good as it used to be.

My first meal at Lebanon Zaman was so good that I decided I’d use it as an excuse to pretend to be a professional restaurant critic. I proceeded to come back here a dozen times in order to try many dishes. I don’t smoke and find cigarette smoke repulsive, but have never been bothered by the hookah pipes. They smell mildly sweet, not cloying like pipe smoke sometimes can. When you do come in the afternoon, at least half of the tables have people smoking. For those who are bothered by it, there’s a small side room with maybe two or three tables, but they are rarely occupied. The food is somewhat hit or miss. For appetizers, I’d definitely recommend: hummos, grape leaves, m’saka(a cold mixture of eggplant, tomato, and chick peas), Shakshouky(another eggplant dish that has more of a vinaigrette base), and tabouli. The tabouli is mostly parsely, and very refreshing. Labna is a bit like Greek yogurt but not as sour. Foul Modammas was not foul, but not particularly interesting — kind of like refried beans but not as tasty. Unfortunately the kibbeh and fallafel were bland, as were the spinach pies and Sambousic. Both of these were basically dry bready hotpocket type things with small amounts of spinach or meat inside. Lobieh Belxait, which is a cold tomato-based mixture of stringbeans and onions, was at the time I tried it, I believe spoiled, with a tinge of fermentation. Not good. The couscous has some decent flavor, but is undone by being too dry. As for the entrées, my first one I had here is my favorite: the half-chicken platter. This is a wonderfully roasted large piece of meat that has a delicious sauce with sautéed onions. It’s very tender but I usually eat the white meat with one of my favorite condiments in the world — Lebanese garlic spread, which comes with the dish. If you love garlic like me, you could spread this stuff on a month-old dried out slice of bread and it would taste heavenly! Many main dishes come with a generous albeit nondescript house salad with vinagrette, as well as a copious amount of rice and one or two slices of pita bread. The bread is ok, but to me nothing that special. I’m not a big rice-eater so I normally ask for them to substitute a different appetizer for it, which they will gladly do for an additional $ 0 to $ 2 depending on the dish and I think their mood! It’s nice they can be so accommodating. The«Chicken Salad» is basically a huge salad with tons of greens, pepers, tomatoes, and feta in a vinagrette dressing with a portion of tender, sauted pieces of chicken which have a mildly smokey taste. Chicken Hunter is a bowl with tomatoes, mushrooms and onions, and a very modest portion of chicken. The chicken was bland, but the veggies and a nice seasoning, something which seems to be a theme here at times. The Beef and Lamb Shwarma platter was copious amount of small pieces of marinated meat. While it was strongly seasoned, the meat was also overcooked — not at all tender. The effect was that I couldn’t even tell what meat was lamb and what was beef. The next day the cashier actually asked me if I liked it in a way that inferred she knew I probably didn’t(maybe because they had gotten other complaints?) So perhaps others will have better luck with this in the future. The Chicken Schwarma platter was very similar to the lamb and beef, just with chicken. The Lamb with Spinach: the lamb was tender and the spinach was flavorful, but the lamb didn’t have a lot of flavor. Lamb and Ocra: The tomato-based sauce actually infuses the lamb enough with this dish that the lamb actually had some decent flavor. Lamb Shank — I love lamb shank in the Greek and Turkish restaurants, but this kind was served in a different way — with lots of yogurt sauce and fried cauliflower. The cauliflower was actually quite good and I wonder why they don’t offer it as an appetizer! The Shank itself was tender enough, but again, not particularly flavorful, and neither was the yogurt sauce. The service is decent if a bit odd. If you sit in the small smoke-free area, you will probably be waited on, whereas in the main section you go to the cashier and order and pay for your food and then pick it up from the kitchen. I’m sure it’s a cultural thing, but I wouldn’t call the woman who mans the cash register and seems to be more or less running the place during the day a fountain of hospitality. Not that she’s ornery, but she never smiles and she always seems to look at me a bit funny when I order. The food is served almost immediately — I think the longest time I’ve had to wait was maybe 5 minutes! The prices are generally excellent. Appetizers range from $ 3 – 4 and entrées from $ 7 – 12 for entrées depending on the dish and whether or not you order during the discounted mid-day period. If you simply want to have a decent, cheap, fast Lebanese meal Lebanon Zaman will do you well as long as you pick the right dish — hopefully this review will help with that.

Two huge platters of delicious Lebanese quickly came out. Although the menu had said that each platter were meant for two, it could have easily fed a small wedding… or three hungry Unilocalers. And sorry, no I don’t know what the name of the platters are — but if you go up to the counter, the paper menu is taped on the cash register and it’s the«Platters for 2», it was the first and last platter. But let me set the scene up for you. 3 hungry Unilocalers decide to head to Lebnan Zaman for lunch. While the location was a little disillusioning(a sad lonely mini-stripmall), and the inside was a little cold(literally, I was freezing), we bravely marched up to the register to place our orders. After a bit of conferring, we decided upon the two aforementioned platters. However, a language barrier arose when we tried to pay. Two of us had credit cards and only one had cash. Although we saw a credit card machine by the register… we weren’t allowed to pay by card. Perhaps the machine was broken? Couldn’t be 100% sure. We were so thrown and confused by the whole credit thing that we even forgot to order drinks. D’oh! We sit down at one of the little tables and before we could even begin the usual«OMG, I’m so hungry» chant that Unilocalers do when food is in the works, the first huge appetizer platter comes out, ladened with… well, I couldn’t even begin to tell you what, but it looked like a dozen various dips, hummuses, couscous, tomato and cucumber salads, relishes and a nice big basket of delicious pita! Oooh… it was so good! Besides grunting, the majority of the conversation went something like this: Unilocaler 1: OMG, this is sooooo good… Unilocaler 2: Which one did you just eat? OMG — that *IS* good! Unilocaler 3: No no… you guys gotta try this one… Unilocaler 2: OMG, that is sooooo good… Unilocaler 1: No no… this one! Try this one… You sort of get the idea. Before we were even half way done with the first platter, the second platter of delicious hot yummies came out… and the conversation again turned into grunts and proclamations of how good the various items were. DELICIOUS! I’m told that this place turns into a hooka-club at night, but during the day, especially for lunch, this place is delicious and divine. More importantly, the food comes out at the speed of light! Just a bit of warning, however — during the day, it is rather a «carry out» type of atmosphere. So once your food is brought to you, there really isn’t any additional service — no one checks to make sure that you’re OK, or that you need anything else… you are definitely on your own… but that’s OK… it saves you a grunt or two.

I’m a big fan of this place for authentic Lebanese Food. If good food is what you are looking for then this is the place to go to. Décor is sub-par at best but that is made up by the food. It is always packed here — later in the evening is worse. Try everything here :)
