AAA of Tidewater

I’ve been to this AAA branch quite a few times over the years, I’ve been coming here for all of my travel needs since 2005 when I started doing some travelling and vacations. I’ve come in there for just about every reason possible for what they have to offer.
The place itself is fairly small. It’s easy to get to since there’s a traffic light to get in and out from the road. There is parking both out front and back behind the building. I’ve never been there when it’s so busy that I’ve had to park in the back. The place is fairly easy to get into, but the transition from the road to the parking lot itself needs some fixing, as it’s a pretty big bump to get over. Once you get inside, right in front of you is the main desk area where you can get travel books, trip plans, etc. To the left is the travel agency office, along with an agent there for insurance quotes.
Connie has been my travel agent here for the duration. Most of the trips I have done have been to Disney in some fashion, whether it be their parks in Florida or Disney Cruise Line. She makes the process easy and hassle-​free, is very knowledgeable about any type of trip and will tell you like it is. If something out there is better, you will be told that. I will continue to work with her for all of my travel arrangements, regardless of where I’m headed next.
In the main lobby area, you are able to get travel books, maps, etc. for any upcoming trips you have planned. There is no cost for this as long as you are a member of AAA. In the front, I like working with Tim. Many times, when I do ask for maps and things of that nature, he also seems to anticipate and know what else I might need before I even had the thought of asking for that,
Overall, this is a nice, personal office of AAA. You don’t feel like you’re treated as a «number». I am very comfortable with coming here for all of my trip planning needs and will continue to do so for years to come.

Firstly, this is a review of the services and folks at the Virginia Beach King’s Grant AAA office only — not a review of AAA as a whole. I’ve been a AAA member since somewhere around 1967, and have lost track of the number of times their towing and emergency road services have gotten me out of a vehicle jam over the years (let me tell you about my 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spyder…). To me, AAA is one of those «…don’t leave home without it» kind of things.
The King’s Grant AAA office is I think the oldest and smallest of AAA’s Virginia Beach offices — probably four or five of this office could fit into their VB headquarters office located a few miles further west down VB Blvd. It’s been a puzzlement to me why this office remained open after their new headquarters was built a few years ago — but, since it’s closer to my home, I continue to come here. The facility, and largely the folks that work here, are all out of the 1970’s, which leads to a typical service experience here that usually combines a short wait for service with a nice, sometimes overly lengthy chat with an older employee, and, more often than not, one or more of the bits of travel information you’re looking for not being available. More than once I’ve heard «…I think they probably have that down at the Headquarters office.» But, when I’ve been told this, it’s always been in the most polite and pleasant tone of voice possible.
I really don’t know why I keep coming here, and don’t just go the extra few miles down the Boulevard to their larger office. Maybe it’s the friendly, chatty service that I always get from everyone here, or the chance to compare cruise ship stories with the ladies that specialize in cruises (they’re big fans of Cunard, too). Maybe it’s the pine-​paneled office walls, rather than the brushed aluminum and glass in the newer office. Maybe it’s just because that, when they don’t have some travel item I think I need, they always manage to fine a replacement that seems to do the job equally as well. Maybe it’s just that I’m too lazy to drive the extra few miles to their larger office. For whatever reason, I’ll keep coming back to King’s Grant, until it’s closed. A three-​star, A-​OK AAA office is good enough for me.
