I can’t count how many times my boyfriend and I have eaten at Camino Real. We live down the street and come here probably once a week on average. I was born and raised in Southern California and Mexican food has a special place in my heart because it’s comfort food for me. So when I moved here three years ago I was crushed to find out that most Mexican food in the area is sub-par. Camino Real has great service, friendly operators, and good food. I’ve had nearly everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The Al Pastor is favorite of mine along with the Carnitas. My boyfriend raves about the burritos as well. The food is delicious, affordable, and the service is on point. You’d be hard pressed to find a better Mexican restaurant in Virginia Beach.

I’m from Oklahoma and I love some good Mexican food! I can pretty much eat tacos every day! The atmosphere here is great and the servers are very attentive and pleasant. The first time I came here one of the gentlemen working here played with a couple of the kids seated at the table beside ours. Super friendly and definately made their day! The food is great! So far I’ve only had the enchiladas but I am definitely not disappointed!

Very friendly and very clean. The food was good, but nothing was like omg! It’s a very close place to where we live and we’ll be back for sure.

We were looking for something different and authentic. Found it! Great friendly fast service. Delicious homemade chips and salsa. Good food. I had a cheese enchilada, chile rellano, and pastor taco. He had fajitas. Fajitas were Ah-mazing! Enchilada, I wouldn’t order again(basic and sauce taste like tomato soup), chile rellano super good, and pastor taco not bad. All in all good meal for the price, and it was conveniently located for us. Was really dead around 7:30 on a Wednesday. We will definitely be back!

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant ever! The wait staff is so pleasant. There food is authentic unlike the many plaza Azteca franchises in the area. The shrimp tacos and sauce are the best I’ve tasted!

I have been by here so many times, and never ate there. What I have been missing! This place is huge and clean. They have these awesome carved wooden benches with tropical animals painted on them. The front door is a bit odd to find since it’s through the front porch area, where you can also eat. I was happy with my food, it was definitely freshly prepared. Everyone’s food was fresh. The presentation was a little bleh. All the Mexican places seem to be switching to those giant, heavy, square plates. Been there, seen it. Our waiter was awesome and everything was served quickly. Nothing crazy on the flavor or menu. But, I’m definitely stopping by again.

Camino Real is the go-to Mexican restaurant in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach. This trip was probably my 5th visit and the food taste great every time We go. They make some delicious guacamole. Of course you get the fixings as far as unlimited chips, salsa, and white sauce but what makes this place unique is the authenticity of the food. This go around I had a pineapple, steak, bean burrito. The pineapple and steak are marinated and grilled to perfection. The food is always hot and tasty. I love their hot plates and fresh drinks. They are always family friendly and it’s a great place to take your kids. I can’t wait to go back.

Needed something close after a long drive and visiting with family. Food was okay. We had the seafood chimichanga and seafood enchilada with a New York margarita and Long Island. We usually go to Plaza Azteca but actually only for cocktails and shrimp nachos.

This is by far the most authentic Mexican food restaurant that we’ve been to in va beach. The service is fast and friendly and we have never had a bad experience here, they’re always on it! My favorite dish is the carne al pastor tacos. Definitely recommend if you like pork. And for sure try their fajitas on at least one of your visits.

Hubs and I decided to grab lunch at Camino Real after church last Sunday. I had to take a star off of our recent visit because it took forever for someone to acknowledge us and take us to a table. What made it infuriating is the fact that there was an employee behind the bar. He looked at us a couple of times instead of stopping what he was doing(putting ice behind the bar) and finding a server to help us. Other than that, the salsas that came with our chips were better than I remembered and our server was super attentive. Lunch came quickly and we left happy and full.

Camino is our home away from home. Our second kitchen. The staff is top notch. The food is out of this world. If you opt to go to Plaza Azteca out of familiarity, you are missing out.

So far I’ve stuck to the tacos & they’ve been delicious! Their style leans towards authentic, but they have some Americanized items as well. Their chips are freshly fried & not overly salted. I’m looking forward to trying the guacamole next time for sure. Small bat area with large dining room seating. Prices are very reasonable.

The best Mexican I’ve tasted in VA beach hands down! I was getting worried… Definitely worth a visit! Nice deco, Spanish speaking staff(I don’t speak Spanish but I can follow), beautiful outside seating. Food piping hot and delicious! Very authentic feel.

When we lived in College Park back in the day, this was our go-to Mexican spot. We hadn’t dined here in so long; I want to say the last time was probably 5 years ago. Back then I would have given almost 4 stars. After today, I would have to give Camino Real 2 stars. The food was just mediocre. Presentation was pretty though.(See pic.) I had the fried chimichanga dinner — 2 chimichangas, beans, rice, & salad topped with sour cream. I chose one(shredded) beef & one chicken. I know that since they are topped with cheese, they would get a bit soggy and can’t retain the crispness from being fried, but normally the ones I’ve had before are semi crispy still, especially the the edges. These came out and were just so soggy. The beans were ok. My mom’s Chicken dish was so-so. My dad didn’t love the burritos he ordered. Not the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had, but definitely not the best.

Holy cow, Stop the presses… Let me add to the growing list of folks who stated«This is the single best Mexican Restaurant in Hampton Roads»! To begin, the location is just out of easy eyesight from Ferrell Parkway. I have driven Ferrell parkway hundreds of times and never actually noticed the place, so thank you to Unilocal for letting me discover them. Atmosphere: We came in on a Friday night, and it was quite busy. Very spacious restaurant, and I like the colorful tables and the high-back booths. Gives some additional privacy, and I like that. Food: Everything we ordered was terrific! The Guacamole, the combination platter that I had(which was served on 2 diff. platters) was awesome. My wife ordered Chimichangas, which were superb as well(pictured). Great presentation and all of it tasted absolutely wonderful. Service + Price: Waiter was on-point with the refills, food was served quickly, and very affordably priced as well. —I’ve been to many Mexican restaurants in the area… Camino Real has leaped to the top of the list for me. I highly Recommend them and I will be back as well!

We eat here frequently. The employees are very nice, courteous, and efficient. We have never had to wait for seating and a server is always promptly at your table to take your drink order and bring you complimentary chips with delicious salsa and white sauce. Once they take your order, you don’t have to wait long for fresh and hot food. My husband is a native of Southern California and really enjoys the food here. He doesn’t have any complaints about the food. The portions are generally more than you can eat and a doggy bag is needed unless you split a dish with someone. What’s more is that the prices are very reasonable. I have never left feeling like I didn’t get my money’s worth. Writing this review is making me hungry for their food!

Experienced this place for dinner on a Friday. Super fast & friendly service! The venue is HUGE! And they have very colorful decorations, all together very inviting. Endless house-made hot chips and salsa are delicious. Excellent fajitas, cooked & seasoned to perfection. Beans, fluffy rice, and handmade made tortillas were also very good! That with the full bar, I don’t see how you can go wrong here. Best Mexican I’ve had in Hampton Roads by far!
