Brisket and hush puppies were both good, beans very good, coleslaw was a joke. Pulled pork tasted like it had sat all day in a heated vat. Very little flavor. When is it appropriate for me to ask how long its been since the BBQ was actually pulled? Seriously, half the time pulled pork resembles mush. They have good seating and plenty of parking, the brisket and beans are seriously what redeems this place for me.

Holy smoke, this place is awesome! The Pulled Pork with the mustard BBQ sauce is great. I also really liked the Meaty Beans and the Mac-N-Cheese, which was very smokey and flavorful. What a surprise to have such great BBQ here!

I don’t understand all the 5 star ratings for this eatery. They advertise that they serve pulled pork. NOT! One must want dry, chopped, minced and unexciting BBQ to give Fritz Pitz 5 stars. No smoke taste The sauces were awful except the Carolina one. The rolls were cold. The slaw for the sandwich amounted to a tablespoon of chopped cabbage with no obvious dressing, Tasteless! The BBQ portions were generous but for $ 5 I want more than 8 onion rings. Beverage offering was for canned or bottled drinks except the weak tea and lemonade in large vessels on the counter. If you want the best BBQ in Virginia Beach, try Donkey Dawgs on Virginia Beach Blvd. We won’t be back to Fritz Pitz

This place was incredible! I was a little skeptical at first glance. The menu was a little difficult to follow at first, but in the end it didn’t matter. I got the sampler platter and everything was out of this world. The pulled pork had a great smoke to it, the brisket was perfect and the rub on those perfectly smoked ribs was mind blowing. The sweet potato fries were like none I ever had before with a honey cinnamon glaze. The BBQ beans were unreal! I cant even begin to describe the complexities of this dish that did a delightful dance with my taste buds! They say that they are committed to providing the highest quality of food and by everything they provided for us tonight they exceeded my expectations and I am a very particular and critical eater. Hands down the best BBQ place that delivers quality and so much more than a good sauce. This is like going to a BBQ competition and sampling the winning dish!

Went for lunch yesterday for the first time. I had read a lot of good reviews and they are near my house. Massive disappointment! My wife and I ordered two brisket sandwiches small ribs meaty beans Mac n chz. Spent $ 50.00 on lunch to try different things. I couldn’t even get ice out the damn drink machine. Sandwiches were cold and really fatty. In no way shape or form are those ribs competition. They were over cooked old ribs And they say competition on the menu. They had texture like they sat in something keeping them warm for days and then served to me. Worst I’ve had. I ended up getting sick a few hours later. Do not go here! If this place was good before it doesn’t matter now. In the restaurant business, if your not doing it tonight your not doing it. You give BBQ a bad name. If you want good Q go to Whitners or Smoked From Above.

Awesome! There ribs are the best I’ve had in the area. They remind of the tender extra meaty no gristle ones you can get in Georgia. Same goes for the pulled pork. It’s actually tender and meaty not stringy and dry like most of the of BBQ around here. It has big chucks of meat you can tell came from a pig red and juicy ready to be devoured not minced mystery meat that’s colorless & grey that could have come from any animal’s scraps. This is PORK. The place is simple so the prices are great too. Just like BBQ should be. Simply great food. The server was really sweet as well. I told him it was my first time there and with pure excitement he explained the menu. It was like he really loved share this food with others. The food came out quick too. I’d recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

This is my first time here, I came with the exclusive Ryan [the elite member] because he kept talking about some Balls of BBQ with Mac n cheese in them. They were absolutely delicious as was everything else we tried. Ribs, the sammiches and the desserts.

This is a nice little place off the beaten path so you probably wouldn’t notice it without a search. We chose it because we didn’t want to get into a whole«sit down» experience with a waiter/waitress etc. You order at the counter and handle it more«fast food» style but the food is everything but. We had the chopped brisket(a special at the time), it was great and the extra sauces to dip were good too. They have lots of sides to choose from and the prices are reasonable. I’d go back for sure.

This place rocks! I’ve had this a couple of times, small orders and even a large order for a party I threw. It is awesome. The wings are great and I cannot even start to try to describe to you how awesome the brisket is here! Did I mention the BRISKET? This place is a must try if you’re down by the beach. Worth the trip. Oh and like I said, try the brisket! Friendly professional people that serve great food! Go and check it out.

I had the pulled pork platter which I found to be very good. Quite moist and in big pieces of pork, though it was early in the lunch rush and so I may have gotten the best pick. For sides, I had the mac & cheese, which was nicely smoked. I particularly enjoyed the potato salad, I thought was some of the best I’ve had. Nicely soft potato pieces, good amount of mayo and very well mixed. Nice, low key barbecue in a shopping plaza near a K-Mart and several chain fast food joints.

Another bad dinning experience. The brisket sandwich was mostly fat and little flavor, the rib platter which was good, had 2 hush puppies and only 3 ribs it came with 2 small sides, not worth 16 dollars. The burger was really good and the best part of the meal. It was hot in there. I had high hopes for this place but the last three times here have made me rethink if we will be coming here again.

This is the best BBQ I have had here in the 7 cities area. Customer service was great and the sweat tea is awesome and if you buy the FRITZPITZ cup you get free re fills every time you go in so buy this once and never pay for a drink again. The food tasted so good I had the pulled BBQ and my wife had the brisket so much flavor even before I added sauce do it. Would recommend this place to anyone and I will come back again and again

This place is a dream come true for fans of BBQ! To keep my craving in check, I’m trying to hit this place up once a week. Yet, I may stop in more than that since their signature cup allows you to stop in and quench your thirst for Sweet/Unsweet Tea or Lemonade whenever your heart desires.(And it’s only $ 3 folks!) My first time encountering this mindblowing bbq was outside of the Norfolk NEX at their food truck. I decided to grab a pulled pork burrito. For some reason I thought the creation had a name like Red Dragon… but anyhow, it was amazing! It was sweet with a little burn to it and was bursting with flavor! I was hooked… Ever since that experience, I hoped that they would plant themselves close to me. And now they’re right down the street from my work! Can anyone say LUNCHBREAK?! So far I’ve had the pulled pork burrito and the Three Cheese«Stevie» Grilled Cheese. That sammich lasted two days because A. it was so big, and B. I wanted it to last longer than one meal so I could enjoy it even more. The creative menu is something that will make me want to walk through their doors time and time again along with their friendly staff. They made me feel like I’ve known them forever and they already knew what I wanted. Kind of like that feeling when your parents would cook up your favorite meal as a kid. It’s that kind of excitement in my belly! I’m going to be a loyal BBQ consumer and stick with this place. I’m trying to get my friends in there to enjoy their food too so I don’t feel like I have a strange addiction to it, which I’m sure I do.

How do I say this? Amazing. Have been looking for the right spot since getting to VA in January. FRITZPIT is the spot. By far the best BBQ I’ve had out here and we’ve tried at least 9 places. The owner is awesome, the location is perfect if near Dam Neck or Oceana, and can’t beat the food/price/options! Will be returning often, with friends!

Being Easter Sunday I figured they would be closed but we were in luck! First time here and we had the pulled pork sandwich. Although we had the large I’d say it’s an average size meal. But it’s cooked just right. And the slaw on top wasn’t too overly dressed so it accompanied the the pulled pork very well. You can sit right next to where they make the food and my son talked to the chef while he prepared our meals. All in all a great place place to grab some grub!

Fritz Pitz — If you’re a fan of real, genuine barbeque, you’re in for a treat. My apologies to the guys at Fritz Pitz for the delayed review. Located in a strip-mall off General Booth, this place is a little hard to spot, but well worth the hunt. They have yet to get their permanent sign on the façade but flashing signs and a cool interior paint job help grab your attention. My business partner, and fellow KCBS Barbeque judge, and I stopped in not long after the placed opened a while back. To say the proprietors are enthusiastic about what they do would be an understatement. They had their«elevator pitch» down pat and assured us everything was fresh made right there. They promised us «competition style» barbeque. We both ordered a 1⁄3 rack of ribs platter, one with coleslaw and sweet potato fries, the other with baked beans and mac and cheese. We were given the run down on sauces as we found our seat and waited for our order. Very soon our baskets were delivered with a warning — «the ribs are really juicy, so be careful». The rib slab came in a foil pack and he was right, they were very moist. Opening the foil pack released a great smoky aroma. Because there was a good amount of moisture in the foil, it made it a challenge cutting up the ribs to eat. Being a competition judge, I’m a little spoiled when it comes to ribs. They are always presented split up. I needed a lot of napkins and asked if they had a shower in the men’s room for when I was done. My ribs were just a tad underdone(tight, as they say — a bit too much tug) but very tasty. My business partner’s ribs were close to perfect in doneness. The sauces were a nice compliment to their seasoning rub. The sides were definitely house-made. The baked beans were like none I’ve ever had — several different, tender beans in a sweet, smokey sauce. Delicious and worth the trip in and of themselves. My sweet potato fries were fresh and cooked to perfection. The mac and cheese was also very well done. No cheese sauce from a can poured over noodles here. I went back tonight to try their pulled pork. I got the platter and added fried okra and mac and cheese. The pulled pork included a couple hushpuppies. If I were judging the pulled pork in a competition I’d have to give them an 8 out of 9. Good smoke flavor and they gave me just enough of the outer bark. It could have used just a tad more salt for my taste. The great thing about their pulled pork is it goes well with all their sauces. The sweet, Kansas City/St. Louis inspired sauce with a nice little kick is my favorite. The okra was crispy and well seasoned. The smoked mac and cheese was lick the dish delicious. The hushpuppies could use some work. Mine were underdone and a little greasy. They didn’t have much taste. Can’t wait to go back and try the brisket or burnt ends.

Go eat here. Don’t think about it just go. The shopping center it’s in is kind of sleepy but that’s good for you because it means no one is in the way of you and the great barbecue. I had the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries and hush puppies. The owner cut the brisket for my sandwich right in front of me and fried the fries and hush puppies fresh as well. He was very helpful and seemed very passionate about his food. The food was so good it didn’t even make it home. I opened the box just to taste it and I couldn’t stop eating it. It was gone before the 15 min ride home ended. I definitely recommend Fritz Pitz. Reasonable prices for great food. I’ll be back to work my way through the rest of the menu! Smoked Mac and cheese sounds too good to pass up.

Fritz Pitz now open, located right near the corner of Dam Neck and General Booth Blvd.(K-Mart shopping center). My wife had the BBQ Pineapple burger, which consists of Pulled Pork on a ¼ pound patty topped with Swiss Cheese, Pineapple, and their homemade sweet BBQ sauce. I had the Beef Brisket burger which was a fully dressed ¼ pound burger, topped with beef brisket.(I added bacon as well, being a true ‘meatitarian’ and all.) All of the food was superb, including the fries, and 5 hushpuppies I added on for only 1 buck more. Very authentic and tasty hushpuppies. Nice atmosphere, good tunes playing, owners and staff were super friendly. 4+ stars, I recommend ‘em!

A friend and I stopped in here on opening day(it’s behind the Taco Bell, if you’re looking for it from the street). We split the burrito, brisket sandwich, sweet potato fries, hush puppies and a spinach salad. Everything was excellent! The meat was so tender and juicy. And the bun looked like it was homemade? Definitely not Wonder Bread buns. Loved having three options for BBQ sauce. The spinach salad was a pleasant surprise! It had grilled Mediterranean veggies, feta cheese and granola on it. YUM! The only suggestion I have is if an additional dressing was offered for the spinach salad, maybe a champagne? When we were there, options included ranch, blue cheese and a Vinegarette.
