My boyfriend and I went here last night for restaurant week. We have our favorite go-to Mexican restaurant, but since it’s restaurant week we like to try different places. We were blown away by how delicious this place was! I ordered from the $ 22 restaurant week menu — queso dip(phenomenal!), taquitos, and arroz con pollo. The taquitos were ok — not the greatest, but not bad either. I’ve had arroz con pollo at other mexican restaurants and this one was probably my favorite. They cook the chicken in some red sauce with onions and mushrooms to give it much more flavor. My boyfriend had the sizzling enchiladas which he really liked as well. We also loved their salsa — I couldn’t get enough of it! Waiter was very friendly as well! We’ll definitely be returning to this place, just wish it was closer to where we live!

I absolutely loved the ambiance and the service. Service was friendly and fast. There wasn’t a wait and the food was fresh and hot. I will definitely be coming back. Perfect spot to stop at before a movie.

Was very very delicious. Was afraid to try it based on the reviews, however I was not disappointed! The food was fresh and very lively. I enjoyed my giant glass of water with my meal as well! The only complaint I have, is the music was a bit loud. I couldn’t hear very well but other than that, everything was spectacular! You must try it!

After seeing some of the first reviews when they originally opened at this location, I was hesitant to try this place out for a while. I wanted to give the place a few months to let them work the new opening kinks out. So, after waiting a few months now, I finally came here last night. With it being a Friday, I thought the place would be busy, but I did get there earlier than when the crowds would really begin, since I was there before 5 pm. At first, they were going to seat us at a small booth, but asked to get moved to a larger table. It was actually funny because there was a runner that followed us that was bringing out the chips and salsa. With that surprise as we were moving to another table, we almost knocked him down without knowing. Anyways, once we got seated at the larger table, we started to look at the menu and our server was very quick to ask us for our drink order and if we knew what we wanted. We did the drink order, but not the food order right away since it was the first time there and wasn’t familiar with the menu. The chips and salsa were good. I didn’t try the cream sauce as I normally just go with the red sauce, which was actually quite spicy. The first thing we ordered as the cheese dip. The cheese dip came out very quick and was hot and delicious. For dinner, I ordered the super burrito. This entrée comes with black beans, rice, protein of choice(grilled chicken for me), pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese, queso, guacamole and more. The entrée came out very quickly after ordering(maybe about five minutes or so after ordering). The burrito is definitely super in size. This burrito was delicious. I ended up taking half of it home with me so that I can have the other half soon. It was definitely a large portion and well worth the price. The only thing I would do differently is to ask for light rice, as I normally don’t do a lot of rice. Finally, I ended up having a reusable coupon. As a result, I ended up getting a free dessert as well. The dessert that came out was the traditional flan. This dessert was also delicious and definitely worth getting if you are looking for a good dessert. After finally visiting here, I will definitely be back. Service was fantastic as well as the food. This is definitely better than what I had experienced at El Tapatio in the past. If you’re looking for a Mexican restaurant to try out, this is definitely one you should consider.

We have been to Jose tequilas several times and have had a good dining experience each time. First of all, every waiter we have had has been very friendly and helpful. Like most Mexican restaurants, you start off with chips and salsa. Besides The typical red salsa they also serve a white cream salsa which is excellent. On a couple occasions, we ordered fresh guacamole that is made tableside. It is delicious. Our typical order has been fajitas which have been excellent every time we had them. The only complaint I could say is that sometimes the food comes out too fast so we wait to order our entrée until we are finished with our chips and appetizers.

One word: Mediocre. I went back in November with my friends from work. The waiter kept getting the drinks wrong. Our food took a while and it wasn’t that crowded. OH. Before I forget, the waiters started fighting.. not just verbally but with fist. In front of children to be exact. Another waiter had to break it up. The only plus is, it’s at a new location(from the shopping center under a different name) that is bigger but I’ve had better when it comes to Mexican food in the area.

We had a great experience! I used common sense when I saw a crowded waiting area and people out the door that we would be waiting about a half an hour(for two people). This was a Saturday night. They are a bit unorganized at the front desk and obviously we’re not expecting such a big turn out when they opened up over here. Now that’s nothing to get upset about. The lady told us 20 – 25 minutes. Well sure enough 18 minutes later we were seated. As we waited for our table the staff at the bar was awesome asking us for a drink alcohol or water or whatever we wanted which I was happy about we were standing up in a crowded restaurant. Anyways, our waiter was amazing. Really nice guy who was very polite and made some amazing fresh guacamole at the table side. The food was amazing even for how busy they were! We will be coming back but will probably be back for lunch. To beat the evening rush! Update: came back for an early dinner. Came around 530 and the place was already filling up. It went from 5 star to a more realistic 4 star. The food is really good but just not up to the standards as last time we came. Which means consistency is not quite there. We also ordered a fish taco(huge fish taco fans) along with our meal to try it out. Server brought the food out. Taco looked promising but tasted horrible. The fish tasted and smelt like it’s been sitting out all day. But other than that it’s a decent place. Great atmosphere. Not like southern Cali food but it’ll de for east coast.

Is it the best Mexican place I’ve been to? No way. Is it the best Mexican place I’ve been to in Hampton Roads? Absolutely

I wasn’t planning to come back here any time soon after the experience I had which I wrote about in my last review but my friends who attended the dinner for my husband’s birthday had some tacos they LOVED and they were in town again yesterday so we came back for them. Well, this time we came on a Saturday at around 2pm for lunch so there was plenty of seating, no crowd, and plenty of service. We still had about 5 servers because anyone around would try to get us refills or bring something we needed which is nice in a way, but it is also confusing when you’re initially getting situated and you don’t know who is your server and they all come asking if you want drinks after someone else has already asked and is off getting them. So that needs some work I suspect but it’s not a huge deal. The chips and salsa were pretty good — the salsa seemed fresh and the white sauce wasn’t as tart and nasty as last time. I ordered the queso which was yummy last time and was just as good this time. I always order queso so I like to think I’m a pretty good judge of it. I also ordered the table-side guacamole and the fella making it wasn’t very friendly — he made it REALLY chunky and also put too much lime in it. It was a huge serving but it wasn’t the best I’ve had. It’s better at Plaza Azteca so I won’t be ordering that again — it’s pretty expensive and I wasn’t blown away. My friend had ordered the Tacos Pastor or something on his first visit — which is basically their marinated beef/pork with pineapple that is on a spit you can see from the dining room. I think it’s their special of the house. So based on the good review of our buddy — everyone at the table ordered those things and buddy let me tell you — they are amazing. They’re served on small tortillas loaded with this meat with onions and cilantro. The meat is delicious and cooked perfectly while the small pineapple pieces you get every other bite or so are just a little touch of sweet. I don’t eat meat too often as I’m primarily a veggie eater for about 80% of my diet — but this is a fabulous way to fill up the 20% where I do eat it! NOMNOMNOM. My husband and I both enjoyed this visit far more than the last and while it wasn’t perfect — the service was decent(I forgot to mention though that the food took a while to come out the first time for the number of people inside eating [like 7 total not counting us]) — the food was amazing — and we enjoyed sitting talking with our friends for a while after we finished. We will be back more often though we’ll probably only stop in for lunch.

The service was excellent. The resturant clean and inviting. The food came out literally 8 minutes after ordering. The taste was bland and extremely average. I really wanted it to be so much more. So fast, cheap, easy… with average taste. No complaints. Personally, the food at the Princess Anne location is better.

First visit here. Took my mom for dinner. I don’t know what everyone is talking about with the bad service, because we had the complete opposite experience. Great service, actually perfect service. Great food and drinks. Guac was superb. Loved everything about this place. I got the fajitas they cook in front of you… Delicious. Steak, chicken and shrimp. My mom got the taco salad and could barely finish it. We will definitely be back and recommend this place to anyone. Also locally owned, which makes it even better in my opinion.

Ok, so I’ve read the previous reviews and it sucks they had such bad experiences. BUT my husband & I however had a GREAT experience! We went on a Wednesday night.(Christmas week) and it was busy. as soon as we walked in the door we were greeted & seated immediately with a smile and a chit chat ! Literally 5 waiters all said«hello» within a smile. Service was fast ! Food was freakin awesome ! Prices were good ! It was CLEAN as well which is something I look for at every place. The owners must have cracked down on their employees because I don’t have 1 complaint. Go Eat there!

What started as a very promising launch ended as an OK lunch with an overly flirtatious waiter. Great atmosphere when you walk in greeted with a smile properly seated chips and salsa and drink delivered right away and with a smile. The lunch menu seems pricey but once the Grande burrito arrived I understood why. After 3pm you add $ 2 to the lunch menu which made the $ 7.99 burrito not a deal for lunch. The menu relays that the burrito includes rice black beans and veggies. What it doesn’t say is that the burrito is mostly rice on top of the shredded chicken. The guacamole was fantastic fresh and flavorful. The plate itself which they warned me as being hot was not hot at all nor was the burrito. Warm enough to know that it had been near a flame but not hot enough for my taste. Take the rice away and its a small to medium sized burrito with delicious toppings. Try it for yourself because really it’s hard to mess up Mexican food. Maybe you’ll get that winking waiter!

Worst experience ever. I had to go up to the register after waiting a good 10 minutes to let them know we haven’t been helped yet. The lady who might the manger maybe owner or hell owner wife, looked at me like I was an inconvenience for her. After finally someone coming to take out drink order we had to wait another 10 minutes after that we finally got to order food. The food was not even all that great. Honestly, so somewhere else. Horrible service. Horrible food. Never again.

The food is horrible. The beef smelled and looked like purina and my husband wouldn’t touch his chicken even though he was very hungry. We generally love Mexican food, but much of the food at JT was the Americanized version of Mexican food. My husband ordered a margarita with Cabo Wabo tequila. It was made with a cheap mix and he couldn’t taste the tequila so we were very surprised when the bill said it was $ 15!!! The positives about this restaurant were a nice décor, decent service, and good chips and salsa. I’m trying to find some nice things to say, but really we’re never, ever remotely going to consider going there again.

Honestly, im very disappointed with my experience here. Me, my boyfriend and our two friends came on Tuesday to celebrate my birthday. It was crowded so we had a little wait but I absolutely expected that. Honestly the two stars is for how quickly they got us seated, as that was the only positive thing of the evening. Once seated, it took almost 30 minutes to get drinks. We asked for two orders of cheese dip, which came out yellow and cold with the film on top like they weren’t fresh and had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Another 20 minutes later we finally got to place our orders, which took 30 minutes to arrive. Not even upset about that, because I know places get busy and it’s all about getting food cooked, clean dishes, etc. but our food was ice cold when it was brought to us. Not okay. We wanted to complain but could not find out waiter anywhere. So we just gave up and ate. Nearly 45 minutes later with empty drinks and half eaten food, still no waiter. We finally were able to flag down the«manager» who just gave excuses about every complaint we had. I’m not sure if it was just an off night or what, but when a restaurant has just opened, I feel like everything should be a well oiled machine, looking to impress the customers. And that is incredibly far from the experience we had.

This new location near Strawbridge Marketplace on General Booth Blvd can easily be seen from the road due to the bright coloration of the building. We(boyfriend and I) decided to try one Sunday afternoon. The moment we walked in we were greeted, immediately seated nearby and handed a bowl of chips and salsa. Lightning fast! So the service was great– the manager even took our drink order to the bar for us when our waiter got overwhelmed. Now the food, for Mexican fair it’s really fresh. I had fajitas which were fresh, hot and really quite good. They offered a lighter version of the dish that I’ve never seen before– offering lettuce wraps instead of the regular flour tortillas. In addition, the prices are seriously low, the décor is adorable– and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will surely return!
