Three stars for quick check out! Terrible! Grill is supposed to be open at 6am and the guy walked around like people are on his payroll ands 15 minutes of waiting NOONE showed physically or mentally… it’s very sad how customer service and service in general from a local company I’ve been going to for 20 years has gone down the drain in about 2 weeks I will try this review again and we will see what we get

In VA Beach for the weekend and we are healthy eaters and need protein. BBQ joints are out go-to. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a shot. First, this a grill in the back of a gas station with some tables. Very simple but not the place to bring someone you want to impress. The food however IS impressive. My wife and I both got the BBQ and Brisket platter with cole slaw and green beans. She got baked beans. It’s served in paper containers on a plastic tray. All of it was excellent yet different from a traditional BBQ with sliced brisket, etc. the hush puppies are to die for. You get about 4oz per meat and each side is about ½ cup. I ate half of my wife’s meat because it was too much for her. About a dime for each platter and that includes a drink. And…you can get your car washed and get gas!

I like this gas station — I haven’t had their BBQ so I can’t comment on that — but it seems fairly legit as when I stop in around 6−7am I see the employees going out to the BBQ area outside to get more or to turn it or check on the meat. They have plenty of gas pumps so I’ve never had to wait — the inside is spacious and well-kept — and they have a REALLY nice car wash area attached. I prefer the touchless high-end wash which is expensive as hell at like $ 22 and the cheapest being $ 12 or something… but it’s fast and pretty thorough. It tends to get really crowded on weekends and nice days at this car wash but the staff are friendly and helpful and do what they can to minimize the wait. It’s conveniently located and easy to get in and out of(a plus).

By far the best BBQ ever! They are not stingy with the food and the staff there are just fantastic. They have a variety of different foods to choose from and fair in price. They have car washes, outside seating and inside seating. Overall just amazing and this is the only place I will eat BBQ from!

Best BBQ hands down! I make sure to stop by every time I am in Virginia Beach. I stick with the pulled pork sandwich because it is my absolute favorite. They have a variety of sauces, my favorite is the spicy one. You can eat inside or have it to go. They also offer it in large quantities, which is what I did for both of my baby showers. It was a huge hit! Last weekend we stopped in and bought the pulled pork, Cole slaw, and baked beans and a bottle of sauce to go. It was perfect for a late night dinner at home. Their baked beans are awesome. If you are looking for a great local bbq spot that has been around for years, stop by and give them a try.

Great bbq. Perfectly smoked. Brisket was best I’ve had in years. Low key location but clean, fast and ample seating.

This one was a real surprise. It is a little barbecue restaurant in a gas station and the food was delicious. It had the feel of a old-time diner with counter service and 8 or so tables. We ordered barbecue pulled pork sandwiches which were made in front of us by a very pleasant cook. The pulled pork was very tender and cooked perfectly, served on a soft buns heated on a sandwich press. We had a side of coleslaw and baked beans, both of which were delicious. We did not order the french fries or onion rings but they looked really good too. This place is a real hidden gem and we will be returning soon. It is clean, fast and delicious.

This is the worst bbq I’ve ever had! It’s not even bbq. Soggy bbq over sauced brisket hard hush puppies and Mac and cheese had a weird canned taste. They reheat and microwave everything and all sides are processed and premade. Gross I can’t comment on your comment but sir I watched them get my food out a fridge and reheat it. My mom wanted to go here. She said she read some great reviews. Bein in a gas station is no big deal to me. Like a general store or trading post. I can appreciate nostalgia. When I first walked to the counter the cook yells out«are yall having fries.» Idk I haven’t even looked at the menu yet but I think he asked so he wouldn’t have to run them back to the freezer. It’s seems everything came out the fridge or freezer. I ordered pulled pork and brisket dinner with Mac and cheese and coleslaw. I stood at the counter for about 5 minutes before I realized 1) you pay by the door at the gas station 2) you get your drink from the gas station. No big deal but also no communication. I got our drinks and took my seat while my bf paid. The cook is going back and forth to the fridges and freezer, slapping cold brisket down on a flattop and dumping water on it. He even went into the gas station into one of their fridges to get macaroni salad or the coleslaw(?) idk but he had a big tub of something. He calls our numbers and my bf retrieves our trays. At first glance my pulled pork was extremely watery. No hunks of pulled meat, no smoke ring noticeable. It had the texture of crockpot bbq. My brisket was not traditionally sliced but chopped up maybe so it fit in the baggies which where already cooked and portioned out, that he got from the fridge. Mac and cheese looked normal and the coleslaw was minced really small but looked ok. My hush puppies were dark brown and felt hard. Idk if they were burned or dirty grease or both. Moving on to the meat. Do to the brisket being chopped, I couldn’t do the usual test by folding a strip of it over. If it breaks its over cooked if it snaps back flat its too tough. It was over cooked though some will confuse it for«really tender». With the pulled pork I could squish it into paste with my fingers. Like boiled meat, also over cooked. The first thing I ate was the Mac and cheese. It had a weird canned cheese taste. I couldn’t eat it. I did eat all the pulled pork only to discover a ¼ cup of water in the bottom of my cardboard container. The brisket was over sauced no smoke ring whatsoever as far a I could tell through all the sauce. Not as ok flavor as the pulled pork and did not finish it. There was no smoked flavor on either meat. My hush puppies were ok not burned so I think it was just dirty oil. Coleslaw had a good flavor but to me it’s cut was more for hotdogs not traditional country slaw, which is chopped much bigger. I wouldn’t recommend going here and I’m glad i didn’t pay the $ 10 they want for the meal. I had a BOGO coupon but still I wouldn’t want to pay that as I threw half away. I feel a little ripped off because it’s rated so high and won best of the beach and all I got was leftovers. Traditional bbq is any meat cooked low and slow with wood. Not exclusive to pork. And is not what they serve. It’s more like cafeteria food or more likely a soup kitchen. I think the only reason they win is because they give the bbq away for free, they give gas discounts, free car washes, ect. But even if I got mine for free I would be let down. It’s not bbq unless it’s smoked. You can’t throw sauce on boiled meat and call it bbq. And furthermore it’s not fresh it’s leftovers. Myron Mixon would think they are jokes. I heard they used to be better and idk if they’ve lost their passion but this is a disgrace to southern food. if I could I would give no stars on the basic fact they are a fraud. I’m sure they are really nice people and I mean no disrespect by the review. They seem to have a lot of friends supporting their efforts but this is barbecue not a barbecue restaurant running for prom queen. My apologies if your offended and take it personal. What I got was not the best Virginia Beach has by any stretch of the imagination. I’ll will say my bf had the same reaction but my parents(I took one home to my dad) thought it was ok. They would return only with a coupon or the free sandwich.

For a gas stop BBQ, cant complain. The brisket was overdosed with BBQ sauce but was tender. The Philly cheese steak was ok. The onion rings were over fried. We brought some ribs to take home, ouch really bad. One star for the brisket.

I went here for the car wash because I heard it’s really good. I purchased the $ 20 car wash option. Everything was going well until the end. The car wash just cut off in the middle of my rinse and dry. I still had soap residue on my car. I went inside and spoke to the attendant and she offered me three tokens to hand rinse my car. Keep in mind, this was at 10pm. I was not satisfied with that resolution. Finally, another attendant chimed in and gave me a $ 20 car wash voucher. I was able to finally get my car wash from start to finish.

Damn good smoked pork. Carolina style. It’s always fresh and juicy. They sell it in tubs to take it home as well. Knocking it down to 4 stars strictly due to being in gas station and not exactly a nice place to take the family. This is a lunch place for 2 or takeout.

I’m usually ready to try something new and as I’m exhausting breakfast spots in Virginia Beach(at least in the part of town where I’m staying and working), I had this place show up in a search. Sure, it’s not just a BBQ place but it’s a BBQPLACEIN A GASSTATION! How can anyone possibly say no to that? So I popped in, took a seat at the counter, looked over the menu, and ordered the BBQ omelet. Yes, a scoop of pulled pork is grilled to eating temperature and then rolled into a three egg omelet and served up fresh. I’ve never had one of these before, but it was excellent and I could totally do this again. A lot of food, very inexpensive. And no waiting for coffee refills. It’s a gas station/convenience store so you get your own coffee anytime you like. After I’d finished my delicious and very filling meal of omelet, hash browns and white toast, I left a few bucks for the cook, topped off my coffee and was on my way. Ambiance leaves a little to be desired but can you really expect fine dining from a counter in a convenience store? No.

Saw the reviews and was kinda skeptical due to this being a gas station. Wow, I was surprised! I had the BBQ platter with brisket, pulled pork, baked beans and Mac & Cheese. Brisket was the fave. Tender, smokey and delicious. The hush puppies were phenomenal! It was a ton of food for only $ 10. I’ll be back during my short stay here.

Milk doesn’t make healthy kids, Malbons does! … Ok milk probably helps. But Malbons! I have eaten Malbons BBQ for easily a decade. I’ve lived in three States in the last two years and when I come home I always get Malbons at least twice. The BBQ is literal perfection. I crave it in the dark hours of the sleepless nights. I crave it in the morning(because the BBQ Omelets are magic). I literally cannot go more than a few hours in Virginia Beach without asking to go here. The fries are kind of plain, but it’s still delicious after slathering them in the greasy BBQ run off from your sandwich and an assortment of Malbons sauces. I personally like to spread my fries around my basket before sinking into my Boss Highway without slaw. Breakfast is a whole other creature here. I have nearly elbow checked a Grammy to get my BBQ omelet ordered. Imagine a warm fluffy blanket(made of eggs) snuggled around a hearty supply of Malbons BBQ with a little layer of cheese between the two. Hash Browns are average, usually a bit plain, wheat toast forever. … Now I’m craving Malbons.

We had the 19.99 deal. 1 ½ pounds of pork BBQ. Macaroni and cheese and baked beans. BBQ has good flavor and is spiced just right. It’s good with or without the sauce. Also this place has good prices on gas when you get a car wash.

Normally a little pricey on gas unless you’re getting it during happy hour which is 5 to 7 p.m. But you do get 20 cents off a gallon when you purchase the car wash and a car wash is amazing. Love the barbecue

Came in for lunch. Ordered the half pork half brisket platter. Came with onion rings and mac n cheese. BBQ was very good and the sauce on the table was tasty. The onion rings were crispy and the Mac n cheese was delicious. Order was prepared quickly and the staff were very nice. Would return.

This place is so weird. I have been holding off on trying it out because who the hell gets their BBQ dinner from a car wash? My husband kept telling me it was good and I kept suggesting other places to eat because clearly, I didn’t believe him. I should have known better than to doubt my southern bred and born hubs because man was I wrong! Basically you guys, their pulled pork is the shit, as well as the beef brisket. I’m talking, juicy, melt in your mouth, wonderfully seasoned BBQ. We got 2 dinners to go, which came with coleslaw, beans and hush puppies along with the meat, for EIGHTDOLLARSEACH. You cannot beat their modestly priced meals. Also fries and fried pickles which were also, totally awesome. These guys take time and effort into cooking their meats and the quality shows. To add to the excellence, Groupon usually has a deal for them which includes a car wash and Family sized dinner for $ 20. Definitely check them out if you’re looking for delicious BBQ, or a car wash, or gas. or all of the above.

I’m a huge fan of any BBQ… Carolina, Texas, Memphis… you name it, I’ll give it a whirl. Malbon was pretty eclectic. Situated in the back of a gas station(with a car wash!), it definitely would not be the first place I would think to grab some authentic pulled pork. Now that I’ve tried it, its very Delicious! Do not pass this up! Large portions and reasonably priced. I really enjoyed the Boss Hog sandwich. Their vinegar based BBQ sauce is tasty. I think this is worth a shot if you are in the Tidewater/Oceana area. Some other notes: Their sides are standard… nothing special like their pulled pork. They also offer brisket, which I consider more Texas rather than Carolina BBQ. If I lived closer, I would totally get my car washed and grab a sandwich to go! Try it out!

New to the area and love BBQ of all types so couldn’t resist pulling in once I saw the big pig head painted on the bldg. Surprised that it is a gas station with bbq in the back but its a cool idea. Ordered the beef brisket platter and found the food to be average, specifically: For almost $ 9, the brisket serving was very small, not a good value. Comes with beans, slaw, 4 hush puppies and fountain drink. Brisket was swimming in sauce, too much. Everything was way too sweet for my taste: sauce, beans and slaw Puppies were very tasty but also lots of sugar in them The slaw was very finely diced and I prefer a more chunky style Not bad food, just not my style preference, but priced too high for what you get, especially considering its in a gas station.

Sorry but way overpriced for the size of everything. BBQ was ground not pulled. Whitners is the best in this area.

Went back since I’ve been dreaming of those fries I had on my first visit. The Hubs still was thinking that this was his favorite beef brisket… The food was different this time. The beef brisket was not swimming in sauce nor was it chopped/minced. This time it was sliced brisket but really fatty. The Hubs’ now ranks Beach Bully’s brisket higher. I’m guessing because Malbon’s is cooked on the flat-top the fat doesn’t have time to burn off a bit like @ Beach Bully’s. Even so, it was definitely a high-fat brisket that day(we went to BB the next day and found the meat more meaty than fatty). My Boss Hog was great like the last time. If you go to Malbon’s…definitely the pulled pork is where it’s at. That seems to be more of a consistent product. Top it with coleslaw and you’re good to go! But the fries… nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Ok, let me not exaggerate. First off… they were PERFECTLY cooked again. BUT… here’s the caveat… THEYWEREFROZEN and not fresh cut like last time. Epic sadness. I will note, however, that during our previous visit, I did see these fries in a platter a few orders ahead of us. So, I’m not sure if they just alternate between the two or not. So, if you go expecting fresh cut fries, just be forewarned that they might be straight from the bag. Still, they do fry them perfectly. All in all, a great place to stop at. Consistency needs to be higher, but still a great place to check out.

With a perfect Mike Myers«Fat Bastard» Scottish accent I say, «GETINMYBELLY!» Gorgeous pulled pork with slaw on top. I ordered the Boss Hogg and that was enough pig to keep me satisfied until the sun went down. What makes it stand out is the way they toast the bun. The just treat the sandwich like a panini. Texture galore. I can’t think of another place that does that. Add on sauces are delish. Fries are out of this world. They don’t give you very many but if you order big you don’t need them. You will want them… but you won’t need them. They are so good you will think they are frying them in duck fat. Pig fat is the more likely culprit. Whatever it is they are making them in the most delicious way possible. The CITGO on the gas station sign stands for«C-IT-GO…INMYBELLY!»

Who would have thought that a simple Citgo gas station would also be the place where the Carolina Style Pulled pork sandwiches were perfected? It’s true, Malbon Brothers off of General Booth’s BLVD is well worth a trip. I almost always get the same meal everytime, which is the Top Hog Combo. That is a BBQ pulled pork sandwich topped with cole slaw, a basket full of homemade fries and a 20 Oz. fountain soda. I usually take out visiting friends and family here and if the food is bad, you would never guess that based on the empty baskets and finger-licking mannerisms that you’d expect after eating BBQ! If swine isn’t your forte, they offer ribs, burgers, and other alternatives on their menu, and usually offer other sides. After you order they hand you a ticket that you take to the gas register to pay. Grab a 20 Oz cup and fill it with your favorite carbonated beverage or tea, and within a few minutes your meal is ready for you. You can sit at the lunch counter, or find a bench seat in the ever growing restaurant area. I urge you to sample the two types of BBQ sauces that are on the table. Plenty of prepackages condiments are also available to suite your case, including malt vinegar for your fries. Stop in and check them out next time you vacation in Virginia Beach! While you are at it, keep heading south and check out Sandbridge and the Pungo area, particularly the new Military Aviation Musuem.
