We started with appetizers: spring rolls(plate of five) and the bang bang shrimp. They were both just ok. I have had much better spring rolls at other places. For the entrees, we ordered the Golden Mountain Chicken, Orange Chicken, Chicken Ginger with Scallions and the #37-a shrimp with vegetables recommended by the waiter. It was all good. The best thing about eating here was the quantity of food. Two of the entrees were only $ 10(a Monday night special). When we left, we had lunch for the four of us for the next day. An outstanding value for $ 72, plus the tip.

Came here with my parents on a Sunday afternoon. We got in without a wait. The food was amazing besides being a tad bit too salty. It’s reasonably priced as well, especially for how big the portions are. I definitely recommend the flounder bamboo appetizer. The service was very fast, but not very friendly. He would walk away as I was talking or not even stop. Note that there was only about 6 tables, and he wasn’t the only server. He wasn’t exactly rude, but I watched as he couldn’t even smile at our table and would make jokes with others. I serve as a living also; therefore I am very fair in my reviews. I treat all my tables the same. It’s not that hard to smile and ask how they’re doing and check up on them. He got all our orders right, but didn’t even check up on us at all. My dad had to do the hated«wave over» to get his attention. I’m taking away two stars for the uncomfortable experience he left us with.

BEWARE the prices if you use a GROUPON will be higher then the menu list. I was charged overcharged in two entrees and one appetizer. The food was very good. First time EVER eating food with numbing powder mayb they should offer it as an option. The young asian waitress was helpful and cheery, she offered some sauces to accompany our meal. Her help made a wonderful experience. Until the«manager» who was rude! He couldn’t explain the upchage on my bill. Ill return to enjoy the food. I still have my groupon also.

I loved the food but I also like spicy dishes. The Man cannot handle spicy food and had a real hard time eating a lot of the plates we ordered. He also had a hard time later on that evening(if ya know what I mean) but I would not put the blame on Peter Changs food but more so on a genetically inferior gastrointestinal/digestive system. That being said, I’ll probably go back but alas… alone. The food was tasty.

I went here with my family to celebrate my mom’s birthday. We’ve been here a few times before, my parents seem to love this place. Shoot, they even loved Red City(the restaurant that Peter Chang replaced). Anyway, we had a table of 5, and there was a short wait for a Saturday night around 630pm. Everything is served family style. — Crispy pork belly($ 10) — My brother’s favorite appetizer. I like it, but it does kinda feel like you’re slowly dying of your arteries clogging from all the fried greasy goodness. — Golden Mountain Chicken($ 15) — This was also fried, kinda reminded me of a general tso/sesame beef type dish, except it was smaller pieces of chicken, and tossed in more of a sweet and sour sauce. Still, anything fried usually tastes good. — Boneless Whole Fish with Pine Nuts($ 18) — This is probably my favorite thing there, but I’m also a huge fish person. Again, this is fried lol. Fried tilapia served in a pool of this red sauce(excessive amount of sauce that’s unnecessary, but it adds to the presentation, I guess). — Three Peppers with Beef on Hot Iron Plate($ 17) — This is spicy! It is filled with peppers and onions, you’ll have to pick out the beef if you wanna get to the meat! — Flounder & Eggplant with Pickled Peppers($ 18) — This dish takes a long time to prep, and the server warned us it would be about 20 min for it to come out, since it was pretty busy that night. I love fish and eggplant, so I liked this dish, but beware, it is pretty oily. — Pan fried noodles with Tofu(I think it was a special) — This dish was pretty salty, and they drenched it with the sauce, so the noodles weren’t as crunchy as how most pan fried noodles are served. Overall, don’t come here if you’re trying to be healthy! This place is great as a sit down Chinese place, a good alternative to all the Chinese buffets we always go to(thank goodness!). I’ve never been here during lunch but I hear it is way cheaper. Dinner can get pricey, but they are big portions so we always have leftovers, unless we are eating with a bunch of fatties haha. I’m sure we will be back sometime in the near future!

Enjoyed the Scallion Bubble Cake, a must if you visit. I had the pork dumplings and hot pot of soup. Very satisfying and filling meal. Topped it off with some Tsingtao beer to make it an enjoyable meal. Next time I come to Va Beach, will make it point to stop by for more!

As a Chinese, I can tell that their food is not American-Chinese food lol, although they are still making the food too sweet compare to real Chinese food. They put as much chili oil as much as the Chinese people does to make food taste better, so don’t get scared if you see there is a lot of oil in a dish because it’s normal. Their buns are delicious and traditional, but some of them are actually the same stuffing but different shapes. Their Kung Pao chicken is delicious. It is diced chicken stir-fried with veggies, peanuts and chili pepper. It’s not really that hot because the chili pepper is dried pepper. I’m sad that they stopped selling chicken with chili oil. It was one of my favorite dishes in VB restaurants. Tips: Go there during lunch time(Mon-Fri 11 – 3), it’s wayyyyyyyy cheaper.

I love Szechuan cuisine because I love spicy food. And you know it’s gonna be spicy when the sauces are described as hot and numbing. The restaurant is pretty nice, and the service was very quick. I ordered the scallion bubble pancakes first because they looked very intriguing. They are basically the puffed up version of a scallion pancake, but only with the very crispy outermost layer. I feel like it could have used more scallion, but it was great with the curry dipping sauce it came with. I also ordered the spiciest dish on the menu, the ghost chili beef. It was very spicy, but the peppers it was cooked with tasted more like scotch bonnets or habaneros than ghost peppers. I still liked it a lot. My favorite Szechuan dish is mapo tofu, and that’s what I ordered here. The tofu and beef were very tender, and the sauce had a good level of spice. But it didn’t seem to have much of the numbing effect given by Szechuan peppercorns.(Maybe there weren’t many in the dish?) Still, it was delicious. Next time I’m in Virginia, I’ll definitely try to visit one of Peter Chang’s locations.

We have eaten at the Peter Chang in Charlottesville and Arlington, VA; this location has dim sum and a variety of pan Asian dishes with plenty of parking and a great week day lunch deal. Attentive service although the kitchen staff forgot to turn on the steamer so we ate the long waited steamed soup dumpling at the end of our meal.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for so long but time wasn’t in my favor. I don’t know if y’all are aware that this guy and his successor are beyond amazing. I was excited and thrilled that they opened a restaurant here in Virginia Beach. This is kind of place that will change your mind about Chinese cuisine. Without a doubt, this is the easiest 5 star so far. The entire place looks amazing, its clean and spacious. I love the table setting and the lighting was perfect. The hospitality service was definitely spot on, the best service I’ve ever received. The staff knows how to serve and make their customer happy and satisfied. As much as I enjoyed the delicious food, I must commend the extraordinary service given by Terrence. He was very knowledgeable about the food. He was the epitome of a good server, accomodating, friendly and polite. I can’t end this review without given my point of view about the food. I’ll make it short and precise. As per today’s visit, I ordered the crispy belly pork, pan seared pork bun, and hot & numbing combination in sliced flounder fish, jumbo shrimp, beef, chicken, mixed vegetables, wood-ear mushroom, sweet potato noodles in Schezuan hot and numbing sauce serve with unlimited rice. Thought it was cooked to perfection. The food was visually stunning. The flavor and the species was spot on. You probably wonder I’ve finished the whole thing unfortunately I was defeated by the food. I took down the appetizer but the main course was huge. The serving here is good for two people. I can’t find any reason leaving this place in a empty stomach. I can’t wait to be back. Peter Chang rock’s.

Went to Peter Chang with my family but I also had to test out my strength by opening the heavy door. We were seated in a comfortable booth and greeted by our waiter Terrence. He explained to us the menu and welcomed us on our first time here. We ordered the Scallion Bubble Pancake and the Crispy Pork Belly as an appetizer. When I say the pancakes were huge, they were. We had almost got full just off appetizers. We ordered water and sweet tea as the drinks. The sweet tea was very good. We did not have to add any extra sugar unlike some restaurants. For dinner we had the numbing pot and the golden chicken. When I say this place is good.. it’s good. AND I DONTEVENLIKECHINESE! Terrence made sure we understood the menu & answered all questions. He also made sure that our glasses were full at all times. They accept militate discount and there is also a groupon online for them. You cannot combine both.

We had a mixed dining experience at Peter Changs. First of all the restaurant was very clean, well lit and welcoming. The staff were friendly and our waiter was attentive. Since we have never been here before we thought we would try a variety of menu items. We started with the crispy eggplant prepared without the«heat». It was good and actually got better the more we ate. I felt it needed some sort of sauce to go with it so I ordered a side of duck sauce. We ordered the hot and sour and won-ton soup. Our waiter forgot to bring the soup before the entrees so that was annoying. I love hot and sour and use that as a gauge for Chinese restaurants. Chang’s was not very rich in flavor and a bit too vinegar tasting. The won-ton soup broth and dumplings lacked any flavor. The entrée of vegetable fried rice was one of the best we have ever had; very light and fluffy rice with perfectly cooked finely cut vegetables and the perfect amount of egg. The shezuan beef hot pot was a served in a sterno heated pot but lacked the richness we were hoping for. The vegetables in this dish were cut way too big to enjoy and had too many aromatic vegetables that were not cooked enough. The brown sauce was very thin and watery and really lacked any real rich beef flavor. Would we give Peter Chang’s another try, that is yet to be determined?

Best chinese food i’vve had in a while! Make sure you’re reading the reviews for the PRINCESSANNERD location. I mistakenly ordered from their other location and the food quality was poor. This location though, has great service, and great food. We ordered a few plates of food, and a bunch of everything to try just because it’s new. The food is cooked fresh, and tasted juicy and yummy! Their Lo Mein was the best lo mean i’ve EVER had, chicken was cooked perfectly, and vegetables were amazing. The only downside I did not enjoy was the fried rice, everything else was the perfect taste and spice!

There was a point in time where I would come here 3 times a week. And at that point in time, I would’ve given this place 5 stars. We have fallen back to 4 stars because while the food is still good, it’s definitely not what it used to be. Something about this place is not as genuine as it used to be, just being honest. On to the food, the Dry-Fried Eggplant is one of my FAVORITES! A few times recently it has been soggy but when it’s good it’s real good! I love the juniper they have in the spice mix, really compliments the dish. The Crispy Pork Belly is great also, at times too much can leave you feeling greasy but overall a great dish. I’ve had the Seafood Hot Pot, good choice. The Gold Mountain Chicken, another on point dish(a good go to if you’re used to the typical General Tso’s Chicken dish, trust me on this). My ultimate go to was the Braised Fish in Szechuan Chili Sauce, this too used to be great but last few times tasted watery.

Again, an ok rating for this place. They are so innovative to carry(what seems to be) authentic Chinese dishes. They just fall flat sometimes. I got seated in a position to stare at a cart full of to-go styrofoams. After my last foray into the exotic here(so-so sea meat stew) and at the express location(fried chicken bits) I stuck with faithful old Sweet and Sour Chicken. It was pretty tasty with a zingy sauce that wasn’t cloyingly sweet. I would have enjoyed it more with some accompaniment, it was served with four broccoli pieces and a spritz of a white veggie and red pepper. My waiter was a dear and tried his best to not get any onions in my fried rice… evidently the fried rice is not made per dish, there’s a great big vat in the back they dip from. So, you can’t have it made without onions, for example. Anyway, despite my waiter’s attempt to nullify the evil onions, I still suffered with not-fresh rice. The egg bits were cooked to death in the heater and my peas were hard. My friend ordered the tofu and bok choy in white sauce. The sauce was good, but the dish had a –15 charisma due to looking like bird shit on the worst plateful of bulbous bok choy butts. The tofu was well drained and cooked, just with little flavor. The bok choy was softly steamed but didn’t lend much flavor to the dish either. Ultimately, the too mild taste didn’t win us over and the look of the dish was cringe worthy. For appetizers we tried some dry fried eggplant. It came out in a plastic seashell, just like the one my Grandma keeps her soaps on in her guest bathroom. The eggplant was pretty boring and we weren’t such about the dried peppers and green stuff it was served on. I love their fish rolls, ours were a little greasy, but still tasted pretty good. Our waiter was extremely nice and made several efforts to help us enjoy the experience there.

I can only rate this for carry out but it looks nicely appointed and clean. The hostess helped me pick out my carry out as the other meal needed to be very spicey! For myself, I elected the Golden mountain chicken. This is my go-to at the Peter Changs on the Boulevard. The taste was on point but there were almost no carrots… all meat. Personally, I like a balance between meat and veggies so I gave it 4 stars instead of my usual 5. Now for the Szechuan Chicken with peppers. It came foil wrapped and placed in styrofoam. Mine came in chinese take out plastic. Why all the wrapping you say? Well, as the meal was unwrapped, me, my companion, the neighbors, the customers at the 7 – 11 five blocks down all experienced a rapid clearing of sinuses and tearing of eyes. The guy who cooked this HAD to have been wearing HAZMAT gear to survive the preparation. It was evident that the foil was there to keep this thermonuclear gastric Chernobyl from disolving the styrofoam. My companion dug in. He sweated, he teared, he drank 4 glasses of water and exclaimed it was some of the best szcheuan he had ever had. I noted the ends of the chopsticks had partially disolved… he grinned. It was hot… he LOVED it. Mine was tasty. We both had clear sinuses the rest of the night. All around, a win.

OK here we go again Hampton Roads is totally impressing me with these amazing authentic restaurants popping up here and there! I cannot believe that more people have not found this place and blow the spot up!!! Everything I had was POPPING with flavor and was so unique and done fresh and fast and I could not imagine anything better! From the amazing sauces on the sauce bar to the complementary egg drop soup and sweet-and-sour soup. The spicy dishes are amazing and true to their originalities! Please promise me you will not order any«traditional Americanized Chinese dishes»… Venture out of your comfort zone and I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed!!!

Wasn’t familiar with his story until recently. I was fascinated by his bravery and endurance that go along with his creativity and talent. Onto the food — I can’t even pronounce pretty much any dish that was on the menu so I just took the waiter’s advice as a newbie and was positively surprised. Everything looked absolutely stunning and tasted amazing! Also, great service, even though a bit slower than what is expected. Biggest downside is not having any desserts available — but I guess the yummy appetizers and entrees make up for the lack of a sweet ending to an incredibly filling meal. Which brings me to the portion size — humongous! Had to ask for a box and got two extra meals out of it. Big plus! Excited to go back!

Good twice-cooked pork for lunch. Iv’e been hearing good things about this Peter Chang dude and his Chinese food and while I’m not a huge fan of Americanized Chinese food, I opted to give it a try. Good move. Yes, they have hibachi lunches complete with fire and sparkle. But at the regular tables you can have a nice quiet meal and enjoy quality Chinese. We’re not talking beef & broccoli or chicken & cashews here(though they have them), we’re pointing at dry fried eggplant and minced chicken lettuce wraps. For my lunch, I chose the twice-cooked pork which the menu says is spicy but it turned out to be quite mild. Still tasty and spicy, just not the level of heat I was hoping for. A good portion and with plenty of white rice. Good service and a good meal for a good lunch. I’d love to come here with my wife(unlikely as she’s 600 miles away) and share a few plates!
