Very disappointed in the service! Server had major attitude and made it seemed like he just didn’t want to be there. Phở broth was mediocre at best. It’s seriously tasted like it came out of a can. Our Vietnamese iced coffee was so water down, it was not worth the price. Overall, this restaurant was overpriced for the quality and service that we got.

Phở 79 is THE Phở spot in Hampton Roads. I am not sure exactly how many locations they have but I have eaten at Three of them including the original. This one is near my house so it’s the one I go to the most. Cold day. Phở, Bad day… Phở… Sunny day… Phở. you get my drift? The service is fast and friendly and I have never had a complaint about the food quality or taste. I love their hot jasmine tea and they have a good selection of beer if you so desire. Clean restrooms, clean restaurant and if you are not exactly into Phở they do have other dishes as well although I can never seem to get past the Phở!

Oh my, what great phở! They don’t skimp on the meat either! I enjoyed the atmosphere and staff, though my food was to go, I really wish I could have stayed at that great bar and watched tv! What a great place.

I’m certainly not an expert in Phở since I have only had it one other time but theirs was pretty good. The broth was pretty tasty as were the slices a flank steak. I probably would not get it often but I would go back to Phở 79 again.

I usually come to this place for some phở especially on cold days. Its close to my work so a bowl of soup for break time is clutch. Me and my homie like coming out here too. Out of all the other Phở 79 places around the Virginia Beach area, this one in particular stood out to me the most as far as soup goes. There’s something about the broth that makes the soup so good. I usually get the number 2 which is phở with meatballs and round steak with some spring rolls. The only thing that this location can fix up is the service. Out of all the times I came here, there was always something wrong about the service. There were times where our server rarely came to our table to refill our drinks and to simply check up on us. At one point I felt awkward talking to one of my servers. I could go on but I ain’t about it. In the end, the food is pretty good. The pros outweighs the cons so that’s why I keep coming back. I recommend this place to the fullest. Just keepin it real nah sayinnn?

Love this place! The broth is so good and they have a full service bar as well. I wish they would stay open a little bit later. Now that they deliver it just makes it even better! :-)

Good ambiance, plenty of seating and a bar with tv. The phở is outstanding and in good quantity. The only thing I’d like to see is just a little more meat.

Tonight was the last straw. I’ve been to this location numerous times and have resorted to getting our food for takeout because of the spotty service. But, we decided to eat in at the restaurant tonight. After ordering, our son found a cockroach crawling on the wall next to the booth behind us. The staff was alerted but they did not ask the poor gentleman who was sitting in said booth to move. Poor gentleman had no idea the roach was there. It wasn’t until the roach got closer to my son and my son let out a loud yell that the gentleman became aware of the bug and he jumped up and promptly switched seats. No apologies was ever made by the staff. My husband was the one who even attempted to kill the roach. We still decided to proceed with our meal since we ordered and felt uncomfortable with just up and leaving. Bad idea. My soup, along with the meat, tasted old. I ate about ¼ of it before I pushed it aside. I’m writing this as my stomach is twisted in pain and I’ve had a couple of extremely unpleasant trips to the bathroom if you catch my drift. Being 7 months pregnant, this REALLY sucks. Eat at this location with caution. Roaches, old food and *crappy* service.

Food looks good but we wont be returning. Our order was wrong, chicken in skewers we’re still bleeding inside and when they sent back to get another one redone, it came back pork instead of chicken. There was 1 more other table in there that had 2 customers but the food still took SOLONG. If you decide to eat here, be prepared to wait…

Service needs major improvement. The server we had did not even ask for our drink order. We waited and still no drink order or to check on what we wanted to order. We made eye contact with another server who eventually came to ask for our drink order. Our server was more into talking to his friend. Otherwise, the food was ok. My Bun Bo Hue had good flavor but hardly any noodles. The broken rice was good and nicely presented. My Toddler’s phở ga was a good size.

Most Vietnamese places I’ve been to were little hole in the walls with generic décor. This one is actually part of a strip mall and it’s really nice inside! The bar is beautiful and the place has appealing atmosphere. Everything is really modern and tastefully decorated including the bathroom! And the place is spotless. We stopped in(of course) right before they were about to close when in Virginia Beach last week because Bobby needed his phở fix. We started with the fried spring rolls and I ordered the shrimp phở inspired soup with chicken broth and Bobby ordered the C4(?). The spring rolls were OK. They came out piping hot and with a fish sauce that had an extremely unpleasant smell, but tasted good with the rolls. I prefer a little more vegetable in my rolls and I found they tasted a little too much like pork, but I am just partial to the rolls at our normal phở place in Pittsburgh. They weren’t greasy and were fresh and perfectly crisp, so give them a try! My soup was flavorful and had a good amount of shrimp in it, but they weren’t deveined and I am weird about that. There were so many noodles and the plate fixing of veggies was perfect. Bobby really enjoyed his phở and said it is the«second best compared to Tram’s!» which speaks volumes because he is particular about his phở flavors. But he gave them 5 stars! I gave 4 because I would probably try another place next time we’re in the area. One thing to note is their serving sizes: I ordered a small and still had leftovers. The portions are enormous. Bobby ordered a large and could have made another full meal from them. I would not even attempt a large and I can usually pack phở away! Nice place, nice people, good food.

This was my first visit and we only ordered the chicken noodle soup, to go. It didn’t have that wow factor, but it was good! They give nice healthy portions. I was able to make two meals out it. The people working there are super nice and the restaurant was clean. I’ll probably go back to check out the other dishes.

There are multiple Phở 79 in the area. During my visit, I have tried 2 and this one out beat the others by a large margin. Kids had the typical Phở dish and my kids loved it! They have tasted so many different Phở and can tell us when it is not good. My parents had the C1 com bi suon cha. It is marinated grilled pork chop with thinly shredded pork and steamed egg and pork casserole. It is flavorful and cooked right. 2 thumbs up for this dish. Wife and I had the Bun Bo Hue. This is an authentic Vietnamese dish that requires patience as it requires specific ingredients and cooking time. The soup is full of flavor and it is also spicy. We added extra spice to kick it to the next level. Note that this dish is intense and is not for everyone. Well made and also giving this 2 thumbs up! Place is clean and service is great! Definitely visiting again when I am around town.

I learned recently that«Phở» is not pronounced with an «oh» but with an «ah.» So there’s that. Instead o fmy usual Phở Ga(chicken broth with chicken), I opted for the Phở Tai Nam, which is a beef broth with round steak and brisket. Oh, delicious. Rich, meaty broth well loaded with lots of noodles but also lots of think slices of meat. Still served with the same awesome fixings — lime wedge, pepper slices(no thanks!), bean sprouts and fresh basil — I tore ‘em up, squeezed ‘em and added a good squirt of Sriracha, then lightly mixed and dug in. The small is quite large, especially as a lunch portion. Loaded in beef and noodles and very yummy. And very little of the afternoon carb crash to be had. Spring roll was tasty, but at lunch time, I think it wasn’t rolled exactly fresh. Maybe they made a bunch of them. No worries, it was assembled nicely and dipped in peanut sauce well!

The atmosphere is definitely really welcoming. The style and dishes are slightly more Americanized than I prefer. For example, the Vietnamese coffee($ 4) I expected to be more authentic but tasted like regular brewed with creamer. The phở was pretty good. Really flavorful, but lacked the variety in meat, and they forgot the beef meatballs! The prices and size were fair. Worth trying.

Ditto to what Troy S said. I was with her that day. Phở 79 has made quite the name for themselves in Hampton Roads. With so many locations now you can pretty much get your Phở fix from these folks just about anywhere in the 757. While each location sports a different look, the taste is consistent no matter the location. Now you probably won’t find me in this part of the hood too often but I happened to be in the area and it was nice to know that Phở was a lunch option. I happened to have had a big breakfast that morning so I wasn’t 100% when it came to throwing down on a meal. That didn’t stop me from a full order. The best part? Leftovers? Go big even if you’re not that hungry. Leftovers are always lovely. Phở 79 and their growing local presence remains to be my top Phở pick in the area.

Is Pungo ready for Phở? I sure hope enough of Pungo and Sandbridge can appreciate the gem that they have here– I can say this as my Mom is a lovely classy country girl from Pungo and she has no clue what Phở or Banh Mi is at all. I am going to take her here for a «How To Eat Phở» session. This particular location within the Strawbridge Marketplace has been many things and none of them have been particularly successful for whatever reason even though this is always a busy booming shopping center. Phở 79 has done a complete face lift in there and it is now quite inviting and somewhat contemporized with it’s glass tile bar that is the first thing your eyes land on when you walk in – NICETOUCH! It feels clean and there are booths lining the periphery. I got a friendly greeting from a cutesy girl and I was very happy to discover that they do indeed have homemade real country sweet tea – see, they know they are in Pungo! One thing is for sure – I always start with spring rolls with peanut sauce – a sauce so good I want to roll in it. For their lunch special, one spring roll came with the phở – well, yes, thank you! They have a full selection of phở, rice noodle dishes, and banh mi and all the fixins you want are right on the table. I went with P4 which is the Phở Tai Nam Gan. Not only did the soup have great flavor but they do NOT skimp on the meat at all – large amounts of round steak, flank and brisket. I was excited to see they had a full liquor selection and if this wasn’t a somewhat quickie casual lunch, I would have ordered their Basil Breeze, which essentially is a Moscow Mule with basil. Another plus – when we had to get the rest of our phở to-go, they scooped up the soup bowl to take it in the back to dump it in a container – I get so irked when I ask to take my leftover phở and whatever place it is just drops off a large drink cup like I am somehow supposed to magically pour the soup in the cup without spilling it all over the table and making an ass of myself. I do not have phở pouring skills, so they thank you Phở 79 for making this part of the meal easy and pressure-free. I really like this place. I think 4.5 stars is quite appropriate. So, back to my original question. Is Pungo really ready for Phở? Although I don’t think they know it yet, the answer is yes. In the end, the success of this place will not be based on how great it is… I would readily drive past several other Vietnamese restaurants to come here – it’s that good. Their success lies in the question at hand. I wish them all the best and whenever I come back home, they will definitely be getting my business.

This location is just as good as their other in VB except its MUCH closer to my house and that is just fantastic. I’ve ordered my usual Phở with spring rolls more times than I can count on two hands but the other day, I decided to pop in and have a seat at the bar to enjoy a cocktail while my food was made. It was totally dead aside from one table and a few other patrons at the bar with me. I was cheerfully greeted as I sat down and my drink was in my hands within 45 seconds. Nice. My order was placed and before I could even finish half of my drink, my order was sitting in front of me, hot and ready to go. Talk about turn around! It was clean, spacious and the staff were super nice. I love Phở 79, no matter the location. Phở is the cure all for any sickness and lets face it baby, its cold outside and there is nothing better than a hot bowl of delicious to warm your soul.
