My toes look great thanks to Courtney. They fit me in last minute on a Saturday afternoon.

I got my haircut by Erika. She was wonderful. She is very knowledgeable about her job and the latest trends and techniques. As I watched the other stylists, I didn’t see one bad haircut. They are obviously very up to par on the hair industry. I will be going to Sumatra for as long as I live in the area.

My hair was cut by Kara. To begin, it looked like she took no pride in her hair. It was in a 2 second bun, it was a faded blue like she hasn’t redone it in a while and she wore an ugly headband.
Most importantly I asked for a long Aline Bob. My hair was down to my butt and she cut it in a PLAIN BOB TO MY CHIN. Secondly, I wanted platinum blonde and I left darker than when I came in! This whole misadventure ended up costing me $ 185! So heartbroken about my hair.

I did not like my hair stylist at sumatra. She was a nice person and probably a decent stylist but she was not gentle with my hair. She was probably having an off day but still! It felt like she was ripping my hair out, and she was brushing my wet hair from the root down and being extremely rough on the tangles. She kept me in an awkward position so I couldn’t see in the mirror what she was doing. I wanted blonde hair, no cut, no conditioning treatment, no brow waxing… just wanted her to throw bleach in my hair and make it look decent and not like a teenager did it with box bleach in their moms bathroom. But instead I paid $ 250 to be a brunette. Yep, my hair is brown now and I walked in with dirty blonde hair. Like… what? And when I said I wasn’t satisfied with my hair all they offered was to make another appointment. Why, so I can pay another $ 250 to have my hair ripped out more?
It’s not that Sumatra is a bad place but it’s definitely not for me and other tender headed folks.

I don’t go for hair services because I have a person I use elsewhere, but I do go for nails and eyebrow maintenance and I love this place. Courtney is the person I’ve seen (today was my second appointment with her, and I’ve already booked a third) is great at nails and did a super job cleaning up my eyebrows. The staff is friendly, helpful and courteous and the environment is relaxing and well-​appointed. Even the customers are nice! I’ll definitely be a regular!

Salon is gorgeous and well decorated. I was welcomed with a cup of tea.
I had zero input in my hair cut. I was adamant that i did not wantthe front cut shorter. I told her I’m not comfortable with that. I just grew it back out from that cut, I’ll think about it for next time…
She cut my hair the way she wanted. It’s not a bad hair cut, but it is not what I asked for at all.
There was also no hot water. My hair was washed with cold water. Yuck!

Love the results. I’ve had quite a few stylists come and go, tho. I’d like more consistency, instead of feeling anxious when yet another new person is doing my cut and color. $$$$.

I love going to Sumatra… have been going for years! All the hairdressers there that I have been to, are really great! The front desk is so obliging and even when I make an appointment and decide to go in earlier because my gray is starting to show, they do everything possible to squeeze me in!!! I really enjoy the experience!!!
I would recommend this salon to all…5 stars from me!!!

If you are looking for a respectable Aveda salon, I would stay far from this place. During the year I was there, I ended up going through three different hairstylists (One had maternity leave, two quit). On top of that, on two occasions my follow up appointment was not booked and I ended up having to call them to find out (twice) at the last moment that my appointment wasn’t booked. I didn’t have any problems with the hairstylists themselves, the color and hair service was decent. However, the overall feel of the salon is dated and the service from the front desk is not the best. I have been using Aveda for a very long time. I would save your money and go to a different salon for a better experience. Usually, when you go to Aveda, it’s a relaxing experience. Here you will have the same experience as a trip to Master cuts.

I received a haircut, highlight & eyebrow wax at Sumatra Salon & Spa and I am very pleased! First, the girls that work there are so welcoming & friendly so I felt right at home for my first visit. I also loved the décor of the salon and it helped provide a nice experience. The stylist also listened to what I wanted and did that exactly for me. I came out feeling very confident and please with how my hair & brows looked when I was done. I will definitely go again!

I have had three hair cuts from three different stylists and I have nothing but great things to say! Each time I received exactly what I wanted. They’ve made a lifetime customer out of me and would recommend Sumatra to everyone!

Needed a new salon and hairstylist so went to check Sumatra out after finding out they changed to an Aveda Salon. Walked in off the street. Explained to Dave what I needed in a stylist and he set me up and I couldn’t be more thrilled. The stylist took her time, listened and advised on styling and products. The salon is clean and pleasant. Glad I took the chance

I love Sumatra! Amber did my hair for 2 years and she rocks with the highlites! I have moved away now, but when I am in Virginia Beach I will definitely go back! :)
