Metamorphosis Salon & Spa

I’ve been going here for about 7 months now and I refuse to go anywhere else! I get a very light (platinum) blonde done by Emma and I leave happy every time! My hair always feels smooth and healthy for being so blonde and hat was something I didn’t get everywhere I went. Everyone here is very nice, when you walk in and check in they offer water everytime with a smile! The atmosphere is great for a salon! I recommend this salon to all of my friends in the area! If your looking for any type of blonde — ask for Emma!

Most really good salons make me feel «less». Maybe that’s my own insecurities coming out, but frequently I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be there, like a high school click of girls… you know the ones. Not here! I love coming to Metamorphosis, and Stephanie & the rest of the staff come across very genuine.
They offer a variety of services, with monthly specials as well as a referral program. Questions are encouraged and they’re always learning new techniques. I’ve always left appointments very happy with the results!

I found Metaphorphosis while searching for nearby Groupon deals. I called and asked what kind of wax they use and to ensure it doesn’t stick to my skin. The receptionist added that Molly books quickly, so I booked an appointment. I bought three waxes for $ 80 on Groupon. I walked into a busy hair salon where everyone turned their heads toward me. The receptionist and another employee happily greeted me and offered water while completing new client forms.
Molly took me to the spa room. It was dark with black sheets on the table. I wondered if she could see every detail without sufficient light and a magnifying mirror. It was not the serene ambiance that I was expecting.
She started a conversation and asked what I did. I informed her that I was a NICU nurse. Then she said, «Your job must be really stressful.» She told me that her colleague recently had her baby in the NICU, and described what happened during the baby’s stay. It’s RUDE for non-​medical people to tell me that MY job is stressful. I don’t feel the need to defend a job that I love.
Back to the wax… the wax was HOT, almost burning. She applied the wax with too much pressure and it felt that she ripped off my skin. The procedure was painfully quick and probably finished in 10 minutes. I appreciated her giving me a sheet of instructions for post-​wax care, some of which were new to me such as, applying a sugar scrub in a circular motion every day.
When I arrived home in better lighting, I saw that she missed some areas and parts of my skin had been ripped raw. I was sensitive and tender the next few days. I canceled my next appointment.

Emma was really awesome, my hair looks beautiful. She did a great job with the choppy layers that I wanted and keeping the length of my hair to where I had I wanted. I usually see Misty but she was really booked till May. But I am very pleased with Emma and will have her cut my hair in the future again ;)

I went to see Emma bc of reviews on how well she does highlights, she was very honest with what my hair could and could not handle. I am glad i listened to her advice because I am extremely happy with the way my hair turned out. She will now be my go to stylist while I am stationed in Virginia Beach!

I thought I had finally met the best stylist in the area until she decided to stop listening to me and give me the cut she liked and not what I asked for. So I followed the Unilocal trail again and went to see Kim. I actually got an appt. the day after I called, someone had cancelled, otherwise I had to wait a week as she was booked solid. This shop is behind a small strip of shops on Independance.
Kim spent quite a bit of time listening to what I wanted and understood the wackiness of my hair, straight on top curly in the back and agreed that the cut I was asking for would work well. So, I got color, highlights, cut and style. I waited to write this review until after I washed out all the products and styled it myself, that is the true test. I will be the first to tell you that I am LAZY with my hair. I want wash and go with minimal product and I pretty much got it. I think it actually looks better than she did but I only do the top and sides. Hey, I can’t see the back, that’s why I leave it curly, she had straightened it.
Why not five stars? She left me under the dryer for the 35 minutes she said it would take and never checked on me. I think she left the building.
$ 160.00 not including tip. A little steep but not far off from norm.

I’m heading to Hawaii in a week and figured I might as well get some grooming done before I hit the beach.
Of course I didn’t think about any of this until Saturday morning so I called around to a couple of places and they were totally booked.
I found Metamorphosis on Unilocal (of course) and because they offered the services and had an available appointment for noon I booked immediately. Perfect!
I got there at 12. Got done at 12:10. Yeah. That was the fasted and least painful experience I have ever had. I would recommend this to anyone in a time crunch. and even if this is your first time, Molly is so quick you won’t even have time to think about crying about the pain (if you even have any).
This will definitely be my new place.

After two bad experiences at other Virginia Beach salons, I was referred to see EMMA at Metamorphosis. If you are looking for someone that is GOOD with Blonde’s… EMMA is your girl. Everyone was really nice, I wasn’t pressured to buy products and the cost was way less than I have spent on my hair in the past. Oh and she was right on time!

This is a great Salon, Alicia is the best stylist my hair has eve had the pleasure of knowing, I have an odd texture, color and natural part to my hair, that she has no problem making into something even models would envy, I’ve never seen anyone leave there with a bad look… you just can’t go wrong with anyone, but my heart lies with Alicia

I went to Metamorphosis for a massage because of a Groupon. Evidently there are two owners — one who is in charge of hair and the other who does everything else (massages, waxes, etc). The environment is more geared towards women, so I felt a little odd being there. It is a well done non-​franchise business. Everything looks professional and not just thrown together. The massage was good. She knew the tight muscles and was able to speak intelligently about the body. Also, the use of hot towels is always a plus in my book.
Overall, I think it is a great homey place since two owners have their lives invested in it. It gives it an atmosphere where everybody knows your name.

I am extremely picky about who i let do my hair! its very curly, thick, and unruly! i bought a groupon last year for Metamorphosis last year, & i LOVED IT! the experience was fun– the styists were very sweet & easy to talk to. and my stylist was AMAZING with a fat iron! thanks guys for the excellent service guys!!!

I came here last spring looking to chop off all my long hair on recommendation that Kim was the best with short styles and cuts. My hair is thick and wavy and generally does what it wants, so I was very pleased that Kim was able to tame the mane, give me a cute wedge haircut, and avoid the back flip up that always comes with short haircuts I’ve had in the past. It really was one of the best, if not the best, haircut I’ve had in my life. If you’re on the fence about going short, you’re definitely in good hands with Kim (she also used to work at Aveda so she’s coming from good peeps).

Great Salon! Stylist James Wagner is a god sent. He fixed my very abused, very neglected hair with a great cut! And my children were with me today but the very nice and resourceful staff was able to rein them in when they started getting bored and loud. It was a wonderful experience all around!!!

What a sweet salon. I met the owner at a networking event and decided to pop in to see the salon. I was impressed at how clean and comfortable it was. Its kinda old world charm and modern at the same time. I got an eye brow wax and made my appointment for future services. Ill update my review after that appointment. Its kinda hidden so you have to LOOK for it when you drive there. Staff was very kind. Im looking forward to trying more services there

Being new to Virginia Beach, I’ve tried a few different salons and Metamorphosis is the best hands down. It is small, but it is upscale and beautiful and you get a sense of personal attention you don’t get at a bigger salon.
For hair see Kim. She is amazing. My hair hasn’t looked this good in forever. If you want short hair or have short hair make an appointment with Kim. She is by far the best stylist I’ve ever seen with short haircuts. She rocks with color too. I couldn’t be happier with my hair now. I’ve gotten more compliments on my hair after seeing Kim than I can count. The one thing I really love about Kim is that she listens to you. I hate going to a stylist, telling them what I want, and getting something completely different because it was «their vision». If you tell Kim what you want, she actually listens to you. If you want funky she can do funky, if you want classy she can do classy, she can do it all. Go to her you won’t regret it.
If you need waxing services or facials make an appointment with Molly. She is amazing. I can’t say enough good things about her.
If you are new in town or are looking for a new salon try Metamorphosis, you’ll be happy you did.
