Great gym with alot of things to offer! A variety of classes, friendly customer service, and a clean facility. Currently, I just utilize the treadmills. There are 3 different areas with treadmills in the building. My favorite ones are the ones that are in the movie theater room. Enjoy watching a movie while going for an extended jog! There are also treadmills with TVs so you can watch shows while getting some cardio in. For those with kids, there are excellent childcare services. This place can provide a wide array of services for all sorts of needs. Location is also great being right next to Mt. Trashmore. Once you’re done with the weights, you can go for an outdoor run!

Like many of the Hampton Roads YMCA this is an older building that’s been updated the to accommodate the changes in fitness equipment and such… so layout isn’t ideal but it’s not nearly as bad as some of the other guys or Y’s for that matter. Staff/Service: Same as all the Y’s polite and always willing to help. Free Weight: The free weight area is in the back of the cardio equipment room directly behind a multi-purpose functional training cage making it smaller than it should be. Weight Machines: These are located in a separate room away from the free weights but at least it’s all unto themselves. This makes the layout much more conducive for maintaining a good flow to your workout routine. Cardio Machines: Plenty of newer running and elliptical machines, and bikes with no waiting… at least not any of the times I’ve been there. Gym: Good condition for basketball, sprints or other leg work type workouts. Pool: Despite being a swimmer I haven’t used it so I can’t comment. Locker Room: Plenty of room with full size lockers, showers, hair dryers and etc. Overall: Despite being an older building it has everything you’ll need. Coupled with the location and partnership with the other Y’s in the area and it’s a pretty good and convenient membership to have. Still I can’t see giving this location any more than 3 Stars.

Went here for a zumba class. It was too much fun! I love the fact they have daycare right next door to watch the little ones! I’ll be back for swimming classes.

Love this gym. Granted, I’m not a body builder or a cross fit addict, so I can’t attest to whether or not their equipment is adequate to those standards, but for the average person trying to stay fit, this place is great. Two rooms with exercise equipment, free weights, and weight machines. A fitness theater, an aerobics room, a spin room, indoor and outdoor pools, and so much more. We utilize the childcare while working out, which is a lifesaver. You receive up to two hours per day of childcare, which is totally worth the price of the membership in itself. The only thing this place is missing is a camera so you can watch your kids on one of the tv screens while using the exercise equipment. I used to belong to a YMCA in Michigan and LOVED this feature. Hopefully they’ll invest in something soon.

This was my gym before I went to great bridge! But I do love that you can go run at trashmore while leaving your kids in the stay and play! Staff is amazing with my kids. ESP one lady is the nursery area she’s so great.(can’t remember her name she’s a small Asian lady) very calm and patient. Classes are nice and the sauna is as well. We love the pool area but don’t like how older kids bombard the kiddie area and the lifeguards do not say anything.

There are a lot of things that I like about this YMCA. The swim lessons are great and the facilities are nice. The people who work at the front desk are not as friendly as they used to be. When I first joined over a year ago they were friendly and would greet you when you walked in. Now, they continue their conversations without even acknowledging that you walked in. I’m paying $ 90 a month for a family membership so I would expect the front desk staff to be friendly. It seems like there are a lot of YMCA camp counselors that just walk around the building and don’t seem to be doing much of anything. If the front desk staff doesn’t make some changes and actually start acknowledging my family when we walk in then I will most like go to a different YMCA and hope they’re friendlier.

We have been apart of the YMCA in every state that we have lived in(military) and this one has been the best facility we have been to yet. The staff is fantastic, helpful, and great with our kids. I have never had any doubts when dropping our children off at childcare. Different from other facilities I have always felt that our children were in capable and competent hands at the Mt. Trashmore YMCA. We participate in their sports programs every season giving our kids an opportunity to learn how to play a sport without feeling overwhelmed in the spirit of competition. Their pool facilities are the best! We practically live there during the summer, and have our oldest go to a few camps as-well. It is an amazing Y to be apart of!

The staff is very friendly and I think they go out of their way to help people not familiar with working out. They have a complimentary 2hr day care while you work out. The two downers for me are: The pool is tough to get laps in because of the swim team practices and open swim times and there are no designated adult open gym times for pick up basketball. They do have a cardio/movie room that is also interesting if you prefer to watch something in a theatre setting while using a cardio machine.

It’s a good family environment. I like the pools. They have free weights and classes. I’ve been to other gyms but this place is more family friendly. There tend to have more regulars here because people come with their kids, and they can take classes with their kids. I like to exercise but I like the atmosphere of a location. Not a bad place to workout. It’s also next to Mount –Thrashmore. You can always do running outside in addition to your indoor workout. Great place to exercise. I’m not giving it 5 stars because it does lack the excess machines that bigger gyms have, so you don’t have as much variety with your workout. But I like the people here, and the atmosphere of a gym is important.

I’ve always been a fan of the Trashmore Y facility(a member of the South Hampton Roads network). Two pools, one indoor and one out are perfect for getting in laps at night. The outdoor pool is also shallow, so for those who like doing drills, it works out nicely. Inside the gym you’ve got a spacious locker room with showers, 2 fitness machine areas that have plenty of treadmills, elipticals, free weights and nautilus machines. One studio for things like Zumba, Cardio Kickbox(I’m a fan!), body sculpt classes and Yoga. Additionally there is a full spin bike studio, the bikes are in decent shape, and there’s plenty of fans. There’s also a great variety of wonderful spin instructors and they teach at different hours during the day(including a lot of 5:30 and 6:30pm options). This Y also has an interesting multimedia room(huge TV with cardio machines) although, it’s the Y so the movie selections are a bit tepid. Still, if you’re just looking for a distraction while you burn off the calories, it could be an option for you. For those of you with… kids… there’s a childrens water park and some form of daycare/child watch program? I don’t know anything about it though, so you’ll need to hit up their website for details! The Y is a little steep in its price, especially for a single guy with no kids who doesn’t use a lot of the available things. But, you get access to a *great* network of local gyms. I use two gyms in downtown Norfolk while at work and this one after. Plus, two pools? Pretty awesome. The other drawback at this location, no towel service. But, most places don’t. I’m a fan.

I like being a member of the Y. In the South Hampton Roads area, you an just go to the nearest one to you, when out of town, you are able to use any one of them. You don’t have to depend on the hotel gym to keep your health kick going.
