Came to this spot today with my grandfather and got a good vibe when I first walked in. Manager was very nice and warm, staff was the same. Restaurant was very clean and neat. I was looking forward to trying all of the selection because I kept hearing the Buffett. As it turned out, not really a Buffett. They charge you for each meat you get as well as you get two sides. Though the staff was very nice, the food was ok. I had the baked chicken, yams and cabbage. Wasn’t bad but wasn’t great. It’s a solid place to dine, low key and friendly environment. Thank you for a good experience with customer service. Not many places have that anymore.

First and last time. Reviews lead us to stop here for lunch on the way to Austin. The food was horrible dry cold meat loaf, wet soggy rice, vinegary salty cabbage, gravy was thick & oily and to top it off the food was cold. Best thing on the menu was the glass of water. Truly disappointing. Reading the reviews it seems that things have changed for the worse, hopefully they’ll get it together soon…

Food was good, server was polite, but just about every part of our order was incorrect in some capacity. Folks ordered hash browns with breakfast, it was forgotten. She’d ask if we wanted butter for pancakes or salsa for omelettes and then she’d forget. Again, super polite but everything took extra effort. At this point I feel I should mention that we were the ONLYPEOPLE in the place!

Awesome, awesome, awesome! So good i would be selfish and not want to tell anyone because they may eat everything and then would nothing left for me! The chicken fried steak was delicious and my dining companion said the greens were the best they’d ever had. There was live jazz music the night we went, and they guys were great. I will definitely be becoming a «regular» here!

Came here on a Sunday for the buffet. Got the meatloaf, potatoes, and the green beans. The food was excellent and was served to us cafeteria-style by the gentleman behind the buffet. Portions were good and we were stuffed by the end of the meal. The meal and the menu seemed a bit overpriced, but I got what I was looking for from my experience. If you’re looking for a relaxing, soul food experience, this is a cool place to check out.

Found this place on a Unilocal search while driving around downtown looking for a yummy place.(In town for the day shopping with girlfriend) Family owned and run, friendly staff, super clean(you don’t walk out with your clothes stinking like fried food all day). The food was delicious! The greens were the BEST I’ve ever had. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, yummy Mac and cheese. Everything we ordered was excellent! They bring out a fresh pan of cornbread every few minutes to refill the basket on your table. We will definitely be back!

Stopped by on a Tuesday and they were open. First time here and love it! Great home cooking! I had the buffet, the smothered pork chop and chicken n dumplings were excellent. The cabbage was very tasty as well, lots of bacon cooked in with the cabbage. The 2 meat lunch buffet was $ 10, great deal. I understand they will be open 7 days a week now! I definitely will be back for more great cooking!

This place is goooood. We’re just visiting the area and decided to stop for lunch. You really can’t go wrong. We ordered the wings for an appetizer. Half hot/half oven roasted. The wings took a long time to come out because they oven roast to order — so expect this and ask for cornbread if your really hungry and can’t wait(like me). Believe me the wings are worth it. We shared the smothered porkchops with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. They were perfectly tender and so delicious. With the wings — sharing was the perfect size. We had banana pudding for dessert and I’m telling you… A must. Im a sucker for banana pudding and I tried to eat it all before my husband could join in. So good! Anyway, the waitress was super sweet and it was a great experience overall!

We met some friends who drove up from Austin and we drove down from Ft. Worth, in Waco for lunch. Had another place in mind but it was closed. This was one of few places we found open after Christmas. We had smothered pork chops, tender chicken fried steak and fried catfish, which was outstanding and fried chicken. The staff is super friendly and Tiffany took great care of us. We will definitely return next year for our annual after Christmas lunch. Next time you’re in Waco, stop by and enjoy some delicious southern cooking.

I have been to Sascee’s four times. I had the buffet once and the other times I ordered an entrée. The food is good, however I feel that its over priced. If you get an entrée with dessert and a drink and a tip of at least 15% plan on spending at least $ 20 per person. Today(12−19−15) I had the chicken fried steak with 2 sides, black eyed peas(a bit salty) and cabbage with dinner rolls. I do understand a business needs to earn a profit and I’m not cheap but when you compare that the fact that I could get this same meal(just as good) at other places around town for about half the price why go here? So a family of four eating here on a Sunday after church would easily drop a $ 100? How often can or would most families do that? It just doesn’t make good economical sense. Plus we’re also talking about home cooing(soul food) and we all know how unhealthy most of this food is. I’m saying I won’t go back but if I do(and they’re still open) I will do it sparingly.

Hot dog. This is good. Called saturday evening to make sure they were open and the full menu was available. Never know with soul food spots. Full menu til 2am. Hot diggity dog. Stroll in at 6pm after an afternoon of day drinking with my girls. Nobody at the door. Just kept walking til I found a body. Live sax player playing I want the fried catfish. Do u have collard greens n mac n cheese. Score! Got home n and it was deliciousness. Some of the best catfish I ever had. I woke up thinking about eating the leftovers but I ll wait til tomorrow’s lunch at work. Best meal I have had in Waco. Come on n get it

Wife and I really enjoy this eatery. Calm family atmosphere with owner pride. Gone three times so far and each time the owners and staff are extra nice and attentive. Actually had a lengthy conversation with Sascee last night. Right around the corner from more popular but less quality restaurants. The menu is simple but the chef is focused on quality. Portion size of the fish entrée was smaller than expected for the area but very tasty. A must try if you are downtown and tired of rubbery raw fajitas around the corner or do not want to get bloated by a another burger shop.

Visiting from out of town and just happened across this restaurant at lunch time. The pork with sauce was excellent. So was the beef tips with sauce. meats were tender and sauce was very flavorful. proportions we’re quite big. Cornbread was a little on the dry side, would have liked a little butter served with it. This is a family run and owned business and they were all very polite and fun to meet. Would recommend this restaurant and would definitely try it again maybe at night to taste the other things on the menu.

Atmosphere nice. Is pricey for what you get. Portion size too small. Alot of menu items not avaiable. Sax player nice but recommemd lower the mic volume. Instant tea with lemon not my favorite. Food… good but not great… I did enjoy the vegetables, carrots and they do have best greens I have eaten.

Went for the first time today after church. I love Southern cooking(originally from Alabama) and this place has got it going on. Save room for the Banana Pudding. I had a great experience, others on Unilocal are saying their experience was different. But for a restaurant that is only two months ago and still working out kinks, I thought it was fabulous. See ya next Sunday. :)

This may be my new favorite Waco local eatery. Sascee’s(say it like sassy’s) just opened up last week on Valentine’s day. They serve an awesome menu of homestyle southern food. I visited the restaurant the first time in the afternoon today just to check out the menu. The owner was a beautiful kind lady who greeted me with some amazing southern hospitality. «Why don’t you have a seat and I’ll bring you some iced tea?» She was a total dear and definitely had some sass too! Even though I had just had lunch I couldn’t resist trying the collard greens– served up with a side of cornbread. They were hands down the best I have ever had. Ever. I can’t wait to go back and try out the rest of the menu items. This is definitely a place to take my family! I had been tempted by the sign out front for several weeks. Sascee’s is located in downtown Waco just south of Spice Market on Franklin Ave. Only 4 blocks south of the Brazos River and about a mile or so from the Baylor campus! So a super good location– especially with the recent restoration happening in the downtown area of Waco. The good home-style southern food should appeal to local foodies and down home southerners alike. Look for the music note sign out front. The owner got into the business just by cooking up some awesome food! Her friends loved her food and encouraged her to feed them on regular occasions. From there she worked once a month as a caterer, then 2x a month, then every weekend! Since business was booming she wanted a bigger kitchen and found this awesome location on Franklin… opening a restaurant seemed like the next step from there! And boy am I glad that this restaurant has opened. I haven’t eaten homestyle southern food this good in a very long time! Waco has a new gem. Lunch is served buffet style. Sit-down for supper. They have limited hours right now so be sure to check before you head over. Wed & Thurs 11AM-9:30PM, Fri 11AM-2AM, Sat 12PM-2AM, and Sunday Buffet from 11AM-5PM.
